Chapter 370: Chapter 370: Lovingly Fried Eggs

Lucina woke up from her sleep, the pitch-black room was quiet as ever.

She reached for her cellphone, turned on the screen, and checked the time. The sudden bright light made it hard for her to open her eyes, and it took her a while to adapt.

The virtual clock on the screen showed it was 7 o’clock in the morning, three days since Chen Ke had left Opportunity City.

The basement didn’t allow sunlight to seep through; all light came from electric lamps. Lucina opened her contacts, scrolled to Chen Ke’s number, thought about giving him a call but hesitated for a moment before turning the screen off.

Tossing the phone onto a small table beside her, she turned on the desk lamp, swung her legs off the bed, and put on a thin shirt before heading to the refrigerator.

Pulling open the fridge, a gust of cold air hit her face, and she bent down to look inside.

Her gaze wandered between milk and juice. After a moment’s consideration, she chose the milk and also took out three eggs.

She turned on the induction cooker, positioned the pan, poured some oil in, and then filled a cup with milk.

In less than two minutes, the oil in the pan began to crackle.

She stuffed the remaining milk back into the fridge, closed the door with her foot, then picked up an egg, pressed her thumb against it, and cracked the shell open.

The egg hit the pan and immediately bloomed, a drop of oil splattered onto Lucina’s chest.

"Fak fak fak... that’s hot..." Lucina muttered under her breath, rubbed the spot, then moved a little further away from the pan and reached for a spatula hanging by the sink.

A greasy scent filled the room; Lucina quickly turned on the exhaust fan and scooped around the egg with the spatula.

The egg in the pan looked like spillage of innards, white and yellow intertwined, the yolk smashed by Lucina’s vigorous fingers.

"OK... Dad taught me this... Think, think..." Lucina grabbed the salt shaker from the side and sprinkled some into the pan, making the aroma seem more authentic.

She scooped up the scrambled egg with the spatula and slid it onto a small white plate nearby. Then, Lucina picked up the second egg and tapped it against the cabinet edge.

"Knock knock knock..."

Someone was at the door.

Lucina jumped, cracking the whole egg, causing the yolk and white to run down the cabinet door and onto the floor.

"Ah!!! Damn it! Who’s out there?!" Lucina exclaimed angrily, walking to the door and yanking it open.

"Hey?" Chen Ke looked at the infuriated Lucina, somewhat confused.

"Chen...? You...! When did you get back?" Lucina’s expression softened suddenly, her breathing a bit rapid.

"I... just got back this morning," Chen Ke lied.

In fact, he didn’t spend much time in Norton City. His trip to Norton City was not without complications, but he managed to resolve all issues on the second day, then returned to Opportunity City that same evening...

The reason he didn’t come straight back to Lucina yesterday was that his life was only left with a 15-hour limit. Anticipating that meeting Lucina would make things stagnant and difficult to disentangle himself from, he chose not to tell her.

Chen Ke’s life limit had now reached 45 hours because as soon as he learned that the foundation’s assassination contract would provide a Symbiotic Stone, he crushed all thirty pieces of soul he had.

"Did things go smoothly?" Lucina wrapped her arms around Chen Ke’s waist, pressing against him.

"Quite smoothly, but the outcome might not be too good," Chen Ke replied.

"You’re intact, that’s a good result..." Lucina said.

Chen Ke smelled a burnt greasy odor in the room; he hugged Lucina and sidestepped into the house, hearing the sizzling noise of oil.

"Are you making breakfast?" Chen Ke asked.

"Ah... sort of..." Lucina let go of Chen Ke, ran to the induction cooker, and tried to turn it off.

Chen Ke stepped inside, saw a few pieces of broken egg in a small dish on the cabinet, and a blob of raw egg sprawling at the edge of the cabinet door, the yolk as if weeping.

Chen Ke walked over to the cabinet, placed his hands on Lucina’s shoulders, gently moved her to one side, then took the last remaining egg from the table, tapped it, and cracked it open, letting the yolk flow intact into the pan.

The egg white instantly became solid, the yolk bulged in the middle, and the oil popped loudly beneath the egg, like a dance.

Lucina watched curiously from the side, fetching another plate from the cabinet.

Chen Ke took a small bottle nearby, opened it to see it was salt, and sprinkled a bit into the pan, then flipped the egg with a spatula.

"Do you often cook for yourself?" Lucina asked.

"No... I usually order takeout..." Chen Ke replied.

"But you seem quite skilled." Lucina said with curiosity.

"Frying an egg... most people can do that, right...?" Chen Ke flipped the egg again, and it looked like it was done.

"Are you making fun of me?" Lucina asked.

"I suppose..." Chen Ke said with a laugh.

Lucina slapped Chen Ke on the back, "Don’t get smug..."

Once the eggs were done, Chen Ke served them on plates, found two small forks in the cupboard, placed one in each plate, then carried the plates over to the table next to them,

Lucina opened the fridge door, took out juice and milk, and asked, "Which one?"

Chen Ke licked his lips and said with a smile, "I want you."

"Ha ha ha... Get serious Chen Ke, juice or milk? I’m a bonus." Lucina laughed heartily.

"Milk." Chen Ke pointed with his fork, since he saw a glass already filled with milk next to him.

Lucina put the juice back in the fridge and handed the whole carton of milk to Chen Ke, then sat down at the table.

"Am I supposed to drink it like this?" Chen Ke said.

"I don’t mind." Lucina replied, taking a sip from a nearby glass.

Chen Ke pushed the plate with the well-cooked eggs in front of Lucina and pulled a plate with broken eggs toward himself.

"Sorry, Mr. Mad Fak... next time I’ll definitely treat you to something better," Lucina said with a smile.

"You see... I noticed you took three eggs, one’s with me, one’s with you, and one met its end on the floor, and it’s clear you didn’t know I was coming to see you today." Chen Ke spread his hands.

"What are you trying to say?" Lucina asked.

"Is one egg enough for you?" Chen Ke countered.

"It doesn’t matter Chen Ke, I’m on a diet. It seems like men these days don’t like women with muscles, they prefer those with smooth skin and soft voices," Lucina said.

"No, I like muscles." Chen Ke said.

"I’m glad you feel that way." Lucina smiled.

"After you finish this egg, get dressed, and we’ll go out for pork chops," Chen Ke said.

Lucina swallowed, picked up her fork, and started to chew an egg bite, her expression becoming extremely content.

"The taste is pretty great, Chen Ke." Lucina praised.

"Our eggs taste the same, it’s just the appearance that’s different... it’s all about technique," Chen Ke said.

"Whatever you say." Lucina replied.

At that moment, Hainerd walked in.

"Chen Ke."

Chen Ke responded, turning to look at Hainerd.

"Dad?" Lucina also turned toward Hainerd.

"If you don’t mind, I’d like to talk to Chen Ke, okay?" Hainerd said.

"Not too long." Lucina frowned.

Hainerd tilted his head, signaling Chen Ke to follow him.

Chen Ke stood up, touched Lucina’s hand, and then walked out.

Hainerd, silent, led Chen Ke to a secluded corner of the fish factory; Chen Ke could sense Hainerd’s restlessness and unease.

"Chen Ke, I can’t contact Conrad, and you didn’t come back on the boat either. What happened?" Hainerd asked.
