Chapter 353: Chapter 353: Clan

As Xu Jing sized up Chen Ke, he was also scrutinizing her.

She was a very mature Asian woman, taller than Chen Ke by a head, her narrow eyes fixated on him as if they could see through his soul.

Her every movement displayed her straightforward personality, and her tone of voice conveyed a sense of stability and non-negotiability.

Moreover, this woman had an extraordinary presence, even as an assassin, Chen Ke felt overshadowed by her and thought it best to avoid too much contact with her unless necessary.

"I noticed you recovered very quickly; your agency’s clearance must be very high... Does the Administration Bureau already have this technology?" Xu Jing asked.

"I am a Level 9 agent... Are you here to provide support?" Chen Ke played along.

"No, I’m here looking for someone. I originally thought the events here were his doing, but now it seems that’s not the case," Xu Jing said as she looked toward the remains of Corrigan’s head and sighed.

"Looking for someone eh... Then take your time, I should be going..." Chen Ke felt no need to linger and made his farewells to the woman with a fist cupped in the other hand.

"Wait a minute, have you seen someone here?" Xu Jing asked.

"Hmm... What does this person look like?" Chen Ke inquired.

"Like us, Asian. Around 30 years old," Xu Jing replied.

"No..." Chen Ke waved his hand.

"That’s strange, one of the research institute girls told me he was down here," Xu Jing said.

"Are you talking about Wang Ailin?" Chen Ke asked.

"That’s right. Looks like you know her? She saw the person I’m looking for and said he was in Hall No. 1, but I only found you here," Xu Jing spread her hands.

"What’s the name of the person you’re looking for?" Chen Ke asked.

"His name is Chen Ke," she answered.

"Oh... that’s quite the coincidence because my name is also Chen Ke," he said with a smile.

"Well then, it seems the Chen Ke Wang Ailin was referring to is you... It looks like my trip here was for nothing," Xu Jing crossed her arms in resignation.

Chen Ke looked up to see Parker still moving about on the ceiling. He didn’t really want others to see his ashen state, an apprehension Chen Ke understood very well.

"If that’s the case, then there’s no need for me here; I’ll leave the rest to the Administration Bureau," Xu Jing stated.

Chen Ke didn’t know who this woman was, nor how she even got to this spherical containment station— all the connecting bridges outside were broken; she couldn’t have jumped over...

Chen Ke speculated she must be from the United Federation’s military since only military personnel could have authority that surpassed the Administration Bureau’s.

"Ptui..."

Xu Jing’s body shuddered, and a spray of blood splattered onto Chen Ke’s face.

When Xu Jing looked down, she saw her lower abdomen pierced through by a bony, white claw, which was still clutching a piece of her kidney.

"I was careless... he’s not dead yet," Xu Jing’s legs gave out as blood spurted from her abdominal wound like a fountain.

Chen Ke stepped back and looked over Xu Jing’s shoulder to see Corrigan standing amid the black rubble, only one arm left, with the hole that once held the blue stone on his forehead still emitting light.

The sole remaining arm extended like a whip for more than ten meters, piercing through Xu Jing’s back in one clean thrust.

With a yank of that arm, Corrigan lifted Xu Jing into the air and then slammed her hard onto the ground.

Chen Ke’s right hand conjured a soul gun and threw it at Corrigan.

As the soul gun neared Corrigan, it suddenly split apart into four blue beams that scattered in different directions.

Chen Ke was shocked; his soul gun had been deflected... At the same time, a massive sensation of murderous intent surged toward him.

...

Chen Ke was stunned; how had Corrigan suddenly become so strong...before it was just 1000 hours...

At this moment, in Chen Ke’s field of vision, a name emerged below Corrigan’s feet: the Dead Clan—Corrigan.

Clan...

Chen Ke felt as if he had seen something similar before...

He suddenly remembered, at Fan Hede, when he and Faralis challenged the Pope Mazville, at the end, Mazville had also become part of a Clan.

Only, Mazville was of the Abyss Clan, while Corrigan was of the Dead Clan!

"It’s... a Clan, run..." Xu Jing lay on the ground, with a huge hole through her abdomen, clearly beyond salvation. The injury was too severe to possibly heal.

Corrigan had also undergone a dramatic change, his body pitch black, with the only exception being one arm had thickened and sprouted a large claw, which stabbed into the prone Xu Jing. The claw, like scissors, bisected Xu Jing at the waist.

"Uh!!... ARGH..." With a scream, Xu Jing lay motionless on the ground, and within two seconds turned to a heap of ash, scattering into nothingness.

Chen Ke had never seen such a method of death; Corrigan, having dealt with Xu Jing at a distance, was coming for him next.

He donned An Helei’s Requiem over his armor and then conjured up the Moonlight Greatsword, carrying it on his shoulder with his right hand, while his left hand ignited An Helei’s Magic Fire.

"Parker..." Chen Ke called out.

"That guy..." Parker descended, coalescing into human form, his gaze fixed on Chen Ke’s left hand, ready to strike again.

"No, no... Parker, I’m not asking you to do that, you need to leave here," Chen Ke said.

Parker looked at Chen Ke in surprise and said, "What are you talking about? That thing’s still alive!"

"Parker," that thing has changed... you can’t handle it," Chen Ke said.

Chen Ke wasn’t sure if he could handle a Clan member, since their level was five years per second. If he remembered correctly, after Mazville turned into an Abyss Clan member, it was a hundred years per second. Meaning there were differences in strength even within the Clan.

Chen Ke currently had the Moonlight sword and An Helei’s ashes; perhaps he could take advantage of these two pieces of equipment to fight. At the very least, he could delay for some time, allowing Wang Ailin and Parker to escape.

"No, this fate has come to me, that’s what you said," Parker shook his head, looking at Chen Ke, his lower half already swirling into an ash tornado.

"Alright... but if you find it’s ineffective after wrapping it, run immediately," Chen Ke said.

Parker nodded.

Chen Ke extended his left hand, allowing Parker to pass through An Helei’s Magic Fire, the grey-ash tornado was instantly ignited and flew towards Corrigan.

Corrigan’s huge arm sliced through the ashes, coming down toward Chen Ke. Chen Ke rolled forcefully to the right, his back scraping the floor in a clumsy somersault, but he managed to avoid the blow.

The giant claw gouged five furrows in the ground, and Parker had already attached himself to Corrigan’s body.

"Burn it!" Chen Ke shouted.

However, the ashes on Corrigan were extinguished instantly, reverting back to Parker’s form. He stood in front of Corrigan, completely baffled.

Krieg’s previously missing left hand changed once more, becoming an Energy Arm formed from converging energy bodies, and along with Corrigan’s eyes, emitted a purple radiance.

The Energy Arm instantly grasped Parker’s throat, purple fireworks starting to ignite Parker.

A pale blue greatsword slashed down, striking directly on Corrigan’s head, with Chen Ke by now charging to Corrigan’s front!

Yet the Moonlight Greatsword was like marshmallow, making no sound as it slashed on Corrigan’s head.

Chen Ke summoned An Helei’s ashes with his left hand, but found he couldn’t ignite the ashes in his hand no matter what.

"Clan... immune to magic...?" Chen Ke exclaimed in shock.

Parker took the chance, immediately turning into ashes and flying away from Corrigan’s grip. Chen Ke snapped his fingers at Corrigan, knocking him back.

Corrigan, in midair, swung his large claw fiercely at Chen Ke.

He propped the Moonlight Greatsword at his side to protect his body, as the claw scraped four marks on the armor and flung Chen Ke five meters away. He slid across the ground before crashing into the center hall’s half-destroyed containment facility, where he finally stopped.

"Friend/companion, I+you..."

In Chen Ke’s mind, that echo resounded once more; he turned to the side, to see the black stone that Hall No. 1 contained, less than half a meter away.
