Chapter 343: The Essence of Spiritual Energy
Chapter 343: Chapter 343: The Essence of Spiritual Energy
"Okay, I understand all that, but returning to the topic of Spiritual Attributes, those six categories of attributes, I can’t make sense of anything but Element..." said Chen Ke.
"The meanings contained within these Spiritual Elements have also been a subject relentlessly tackled by many predecessors. Humanity’s understanding of the natural world and the universe is extremely limited. The scientific community was too narrow-minded before, focusing only on elements that could be measured and observed, overlooking some that couldn’t be measured or observed..." Wang Ailin replied.
Chen Ke made a welcoming gesture with his hand, signaling her to continue.
Initially, the academic categorization of Spiritual Power included only the Element category. Under this category, there were subcategories that included Ice, Flame, and Lightning.
These were the most easily understood forms of Spiritual Power; such elemental powers were chemical reactions already well known to humans: igniting combustibles, condensing air, lightning and thunder...
However, as research further unfolded, Spiritual Power revealed many more possibilities and effects.
The second major category of Spiritual Attributes to be identified was Corrosion, which included acid, poison, and Magic.
Acid and poison still did not escape chemical reactions, being artificially produced effects of degradation and viral pathogen infection, but Magic took quite a long time to be recognized and defined by the academic community.
Magic as a Spiritual Power was an utterly unreasonable force; it verged on establishing and rewriting certain rules, with most of the secret Skills associated with Magic involving contracts.
Chen Ke remembered the Silent Witch and realized that the power she used seemed to be related to Magic.
The third category of Spiritual Attributes to be discovered was the Mysterious Attribute, including arcane, Illusion Techniques, and Magic. This was a byproduct encountered when the explorers first ventured into the Great Void, they met Demon Spirits and intangible enemies.
Chen Ke had already experienced the power of Illusion Technique and Magic; one created illusions to bewilder the target, while the other was a simple release of energy.
Arcane and Magic were similar, both manifesting as energy releases, but unlike Magic, which could be considered the flip side of physicality, arcane was closer to the origin of Spiritual Energy, much purer.
Discipline and Sin were like twin brothers, these two attributes were discovered together and changed the academic community’s perception of elements.
These two attributes resembled two beliefs, intangible, with very few subattributes that could be observed; they were closer to the release of certain emotions.
Discipline included the subattributes of Punishment, Justice, and Light Energy. Discipline itself represented order, an extremely orderly meme, and the Punishment bullets used by Chen Ke should technically be considered Discipline bullets.
Justice was a term coined by humans, but this type of Spiritual Energy indeed had an inspiring effect, embodying a positive, proactive force.
And Light Energy was the only one of Discipline’s attributes that could be observed and was well-known: it was a beam of light with extreme density, brighter than any light source known to humanity, and carried heat incapable of spreading through air, unimaginable in intensity.
The attribute of Sin was the opposite of Discipline, encompassing thorns, Dark Energy, and witchcraft.
The attribute of thorns was an extremely negative pain meme, its energy manifesting as intense pain and despair, a presence similar to arcane.
Dark Energy was the opposite of Light Energy, a devouring darkness that could annihilate all that existed, leaving behind an unobservable and untouchable trace in space-time.
The Research Institute internally announced that the Abyss beneath the spherical containment station was the remnant of an accident caused by a previous research team’s study of Dark Energy.
Witchcraft and magic spells exhibit themselves identically as carriers of contracts, but they can bind the contractor’s senses to a certain token, sounding very much like the headhunting and possession discussed in ancient shamanistic teachings.
The last spiritual attribute to be discovered was the Original Attribute, and the United Federation’s research institutes had no prior knowledge of it and even believed it didn’t exist at all.
However, later on, as the Fei Huang Republic’s Spiritual Ability Research Institute publicized this spiritual discovery in the academic world, all Western scholars then began to pay attention to and study this kind of spiritual energy.
The Original Attribute is the power condensed from the primal emotions of humans, including rage, inner strength, and hatred. As literally understood, it comes from the primal force of life, the basic instinct inherent in all living beings.
But somewhat awkwardly, the three kinds of spiritual energy of the Original Attribute couldn’t be utilized just by injecting spiritual elements. Only the three great races could master the corresponding three attributes.
The people of the Fei Huang Republic could use inner strength, citizens of certain Northern European nations could use rage, and native residents of the Yadian Tribe in the United Federation controlled hatred.
The six major spiritual attributes mingled with the atmosphere, and only six kinds—flame, lightning, ice, punishment, acid, and toxin—could be extracted and made into bullets by the Spiritual Ability Administration.
Additionally, superhumans created by injecting spiritual elements into their spines would see a gradual sharp decline in the total number of spiritual elements they could carry as they aged, along with very severe side effects.
In the use of spiritual energy, humanity still had a long way to go.
Chen Ke had crossed hands with someone from the H.C.P in the Fan Hede Kingdom, and that guy’s bullets were of the Magic Attribute! Moreover, he had also said something to Chen Ke,
"You’re too primitive in the use of spiritual power."
Coupled with their swift mobility and nearly uncontestable reflexes, compared to the future, humans have reached new heights in the use of spiritual energy...
"What exactly is the Great Void, the research institute currently has no definition for it, we just call it a space from an unknown dimension, but as research furthers, I believe it is part of our history," Wang Ailin said.
"Our history? That’s interesting, after all, if you google it, you’ll know that we discovered spiritual energy only in 1910, and our earlier history has clear records. But in the Great Void, I saw medieval kingdoms, knights clad in armor. If they are part of our history, it makes no sense that we only discovered spiritual energy in 1910." Chen Ke said.
"I think I understand what she’s saying, Chen Ke, think about it... is there a possibility... that there’s another history before our own history...?" Parker suddenly interjected.
"Interesting... When you think about it, it’s not impossible... At first, the institute thought that Holy Relics couldn’t be restored in the Great Void due to the out-of-control effects of spiritual energy or some other energy interfering with the relics’ cycling mechanism..." Wang Ailin said.
"And after that...?" Chen Ke asked.
"There was no after that, they’ve always thought that, but I have a different view. Perhaps... The Holy Relics were never meant to become diamonds, it’s just that the timeline in our world doesn’t match with them, causing them to only revert back to their original form for a very brief period... and in the Great Void... that’s the era they truly belong to," Wang Ailin explained.
"That makes sense, the Great Void is the present for these Holy Relics, while our own timeline doesn’t align with them, so... that results in some strange reactions, right?" Parker asked.
"You’re very smart, Parker," Wang Ailin smiled.
"Holy Relics drop from monsters in the Great Void, which is quite strange. If I kill a dog, a sword shouldn’t drop; it defies logic. I don’t believe the Great Void is part of history; after all, no era in history would have dogs drop something upon death..." Chen Ke shook his head.
"But other than that, there’s no other explanation," Wang Ailin said.
"Maybe it’s just that we know too little still, and the information we have can’t yet be used to analyze the problem at hand. Speaking of immediate issues... shouldn’t we first consider how to get out of here?" Chen Ke said.
