Chapter 339: Chapter 339 Finally Meeting You

"Isn’t this Wang Ailin’s code?" Chen Ke walked over to the door and scanned the inside with Spiritual Vision, spotting a human silhouette lying on the floor, reaching for something on the ground as if trying to grab it.

He knocked on the door, which wasn’t made of glass in this iron sphere building but was instead a metal door that couldn’t be opened without a passcode.

Chen Ke thought for a moment, rolled up his sleeves, and ash began to form spontaneously in the palm of his right hand. He placed his palm on the door and kept raising the temperature, hoping to melt the door.

The temperature of Ash Element could instantly reach thousands of degrees, but Chen Ke didn’t do that.

First of all, this high temperature wasn’t confined to his own palm alone; it was like a sudden appearance of a heat source of thousands of degrees in the air, which would instantly suck the air dry around it, causing the surrounding temperature to rise and creating a vacuum, triggering a thermal explosion.

If he weren’t wearing a set of An Helei’s Mourning Song, even Chen Ke would be vaporized by this high temperature. Not to mention, it also had a significant impact on the surroundings, and Chen Ke certainly didn’t want to burn Wang Ailin to a crisp through the door.

Even though the temperature of the palm was only around 100 degrees at the moment, the surrounding air also heated up, becoming uncomfortably hot and dry, and the door started to emit a burnt smell. The part where his palm was touching had turned dark and slightly reddish.

Oddly enough, the high temperature produced by the ash seemed to affect only the spot in his palm; even the sleeves were getting dry.

After heating it enough, Chen Ke stepped back and fiercely kicked at the deformed part of the door, which flung open with a clanging sound.

The light was on in the room; the table, as if impacted by something, was flipped over along with the computer on the floor. A short-haired woman in a lab coat lay on the floor, holding a cellphone in her left hand and stretching her right hand towards a headset on the ground.

Not far away, a small stand was scattered with some ash, with detection devices inserted into the ash. The monitor next to it displayed some readings.

Chen Ke helped the woman up from the floor and propped her against the wall, then he pulled back her eyelid to check the whites of her eyes. They were red, resembling internal bleeding.

He picked up the earphone device from the ground and, with a try-and-see attitude, helped her put it on.

The woman’s body began to tremble, and she emitted "uh-uh-uh" sounds of retching, suddenly opening her eyes, vomiting everything in her stomach, and black blood sprayed out of her nostrils.

"Oh... oh... ugh..." the woman painfully retched for a while before she finally recovered.

Though she was covered in vomit and had black blood streaming from her nostrils, Chen Ke still noticed that she was originally a rather pretty Asian girl.

The woman was about the same age as himself, and being employed in a research institute at such a young age was quite remarkable. However, her face was now pale, her brow furrowed, and her eyeballs revolved within their sockets, looking extremely terrifying.

"Hey... feeling a bit more awake now?" Chen Ke said.

"Uh... glug-glug... woah..." the woman spoke incoherently, rolling her eyes as if she had a mouthful of candy.

"Slap!" Chen Ke waved his hand, slapping her so hard that her tongue stuck out, spraying sparkling saliva.

"Ow... ow... that hurts..." the woman covered her cheek, her eyes thankfully returning to normal.

"Seems normal now..." Chen Ke observed.

The woman stabilized her emotions and looked at the vomit on her body, showing a disgusted expression. She then looked at her hands, coated in black blood.

"I... this is mine..." she said as she struggled to rise from the floor.

"Hey, I’m looking for someone..." Chen Ke stood up, trying to support the girl.

"Wait... I need to..." the woman said as she took off her white lab coat, revealing a white tank top and a purple skirt underneath.

Watching the woman lean over the sink to clean herself, Chen Ke could only wait patiently. He looked at the floor and noticed an ID card, so he picked it up and looked at it.

"Wait a minute... you’re Wang Ailin?" Chen Ke looked at the woman and asked.

"I thought you wouldn’t come. Something happened here, and it’s a mess..." While speaking, Wang Ailin wiped her face with a towel and put her glasses back on.

"What happened here?" Chen Ke asked.

"The containment facility is out of control. I don’t know what happened, but it’s dangerous here now, we should get out quickly..." Wang Ailin said.

"That...about the Ash Element..." Chen Ke reminded.

"Now isn’t the time to talk about that... Chen Ke, this sphere contains many strange things, more dangerous than you can imagine, let’s leave here first and then talk, okay?" Wang Ailin said.

"You seem familiar with me, although we are meeting for the first time," Chen Ke sighed.

"I don’t know why... I’ve seen some things related to you, but I don’t know if they will happen," Wang Ailin said.

"Alright, I’ll lead you out first," Chen Ke said.

"Wait... you’re not wearing a Meme Blocker... Won’t you be affected?" Wang Ailin suddenly asked.

"Meme Blocker...? I don’t need that thing, what’s wrong with everyone here?" Chen Ke asked.

"That belongs to project number 1642 of the containment items...a sound frequency beyond the human auditory range, recorded in a phonograph. They are harmless in themselves...but can turn other things’ thoughts into a meme transmission... There are many entities here with thoughts... I guess someone turned on the phonograph..." Wang Ailin said.

"It seems that thing doesn’t affect me..." Chen Ke shook his head.

"Maybe your ears are uniquely built, exactly not picking up certain frequencies, there have indeed been such cases..." Wang Ailin nodded.

"Does that mean, turning off the phonograph could make everyone normal again?" Chen Ke asked.

"Let the Administration Bureau handle it. I don’t want to go down there..." Wang Ailin said.

Chen Ke hummed in agreement. He wasn’t looking to play the hero. Wang Ailin knew well what kind of things the research institute was containing below; best not to go down if it could be avoided.

Chen Ke pulled out his pistol and escorted Wang Ailin outside. In the corridor, several researchers were banging their heads against the wall, frightening Wang Ailin so much that she cowered behind Chen Ke, not daring to make a sound.

The two slowly approached the main door of the circular corridor; outside was the dark void filled with countless floating researchers and the long bridge connecting to the fifth basement level of the facility.

"What’s the situation outside? Has the Administration Bureau arrived?" Wang Ailin asked.

"Outside isn’t much better than here, but at least no strange things popping up," Chen Ke replied.

Wang Ailin nodded and followed Chen Ke, moving forward slowly.

Just as they took a step, suddenly a giant black tentacle stretched out from beneath the huge sphere and wound around the bridge.

"Fuck!" Chen Ke couldn’t help but curse, holding Wang Ailin with his left hand and protecting her behind him.

The tentacle wrapped around the bridge six or seven times, pulling savagely. A sound of bending metal was heard, followed by a loud clatter as the bridge broke...

"Well, this is great..." Chen Ke sighed, looking down into the Abyss below, not knowing how deep it was or how this building was constructed.

"Is there another way out?" Chen Ke turned to look at Wang Ailin.

From her expression, he already saw the answer.
