Chapter 326: Contract Expiry
Chapter 326: Chapter 326: Contract Expiry
Chen Ke simply couldn’t believe his own eyes, he remembered again when he was at the West Gold Building, dominated by the fear of the contract demon.
However, this time he wouldn’t be so lucky. This contract demon was a manifestation of this sea area; it couldn’t possibly react to the Sun Mark on Chen Ke’s chest and open another Teleportation Gate.
The contract demon was too tall and had to crouch in the narrow corridor, walking with a hunchback, its head stretched straight out in front.
At this moment, Chen Ke was no longer the same Chen Ke from the West Gold Building; the expression on his face shifted from utter surprise to a serious man’s face.
This time, he would face it head-on like a man.
"Let’s go!" Chen Ke roared, and then thrust his spear vigorously, its sharp tip biting straight into the contract demon’s head.
The contract demon extended its right claw, easily catching the spear coming toward it, and with a light tug, pulled Chen Ke toward itself.
The brute force almost made Chen Ke lose his balance, but he went with the motion, his left hand flashing with white light as the Fire-igniting Broadsword appeared in his grasp, plunging it into the right side of the contract demon’s body.
"RUA!!!" The contract demon let out a painful howl as it loosened its grip on the spear, and the spear tip slid into its neck with a metallic hiss, purple blood spurting out and splashing all over Chen Ke’s face.
There was hope! Without the effect of absorbing Killing Aura, Chen Ke dared to confront the contract demon.
The life countdown, which increased or decreased lifespan, was based on the strength of the monster. Although it was a good warning system, it also indirectly restricted Chen Ke.
At the West Gold Building, the contract demon could add a year to his lifespan every second. With Chen Ke’s current level, it probably wasn’t a year anymore; maybe this time he really had a chance to kill the contract demon.
Chen Ke twisted the hilt, trying to make the wound larger while igniting the blade with fire.
At that moment, the contract demon’s eyes turned red as if it entered a berserk state, it seized the purple spear embedded in its head and pulled it out.
He tried to match the contract demon’s physical strength, and as expected, it was like an arm blocking a chariot.
Killing Aura trigger!
The scarlet Killing Aura rising behind Chen Ke all surged toward the contract demon. He didn’t expect to scare it away, but at least it should stun it for a while.
Chen Ke’s lifespan was currently bound to the cracks aboard the ship, drained twice as fast every second, and this contract demon wasn’t providing him with Killing Aura, so Chen Ke was still hesitant to use Spiritual Power.
Moreover, he didn’t know if Time Stop could affect multiple targets simultaneously; he couldn’t immobilize the contract demon and then just watch the ship sink.
The Killing Aura didn’t seem to affect the contract demon, Chen Ke was somewhat shocked, as he had used his entire reserve of Killing Aura, emptying his Killing Aura Bar.
"Chen Ke? Are you there?" At that moment, Chen Ke heard Laura’s voice.
"Don’t come down!" Chen Ke shouted, getting distracted for a moment before feeling a chilling sensation in his stomach. Looking down, he saw his intestines spilling out.
The contract demon’s right claw had sliced open his body, then with a fierce slap, pinned Chen Ke against the bulkhead with a loud crash.
"Damn..." Chen Ke fell into the water, the wound in his abdomen rapidly healing. Raising his head, the contract demon was already upon him, clawing into his throat, fresh red blood spurting half a meter high.
The contract demon, holding Chen Ke by the neck, pinned him against the wall as its other claw reached for his abdomen. In that instant, Chen Ke’s body was enveloped in black armor; he summoned An Helei’s Elegy.
"Chen Ke? Chen Ke?" Laura’s voice was getting closer, and Chen Ke could even hear the splashing of water.
"Hiss, hiss, hiss..." Chen Ke tried to speak, but could only make a whooshing sound as his throat had been pierced by the contract demon, no longer able to produce a voice, and with the claw still clamped inside, his wound couldn’t heal.
His abdomen was continuously attacked by the contract demon. Its claw scratched at the knight’s armor, emitting an unpleasant screech and sparking fires.
It didn’t matter anymore; if this continued, he feared he would be worn down to death by his lifespan draining away. Chen Ke released his grip on the spear with his right hand and clutched at the contract demon’s shoulder.
Time Stop!
Chen Ke’s right palm was coated with a membrane, and when he pressed it against the contract demon’s shriveled skin, its right claw’s movements suddenly slowed down considerably.
"Strength exceeds..."
A small line of text popped up in the upper right corner of his vision, indicating the life countdown reminder.
The strength of the contract demon far exceeded that of Chen Ke. Although time suspension could still be effective, it required more time to take effect, and Chen Ke needed to maintain continuous contact with it.
On the contract demon’s body, a white film began to spread from its right shoulder across its entire body, stopping all motion in its path. However, the speed of spreading was excruciatingly slow.
"Chen...?!" Laura had finally found Chen Ke’s location and she also saw the contract demon curled up in the corridor.
It’s just that Chen Ke was wearing a set of armor that Laura had never seen before. For a moment, she was uncertain of his identity.
The contract demon flung Chen Ke aside, and the white film on its right shoulder dissipated in an instant, restoring its movements to normal speed.
"Damn..." Chen Ke got up from the waterlogged ground, touching his neck. His injury had healed.
Laura was ten steps away from Chen Ke, with a contract demon between them.
"Run!" Chen Ke shouted.
Even though he said that, he knew Laura was doomed. The speed and strength of the contract demon were inhuman; he hadn’t been able to react in time himself.
"AAAAAAAAHHH!!!!" The contract demon roared, charging ferociously towards Laura. Chen Ke’s Fire-igniting Broadsword was still stuck in its waist, but the battle spear had been removed, and it was unclear where it had been thrown.
"Stop!" Laura yelled, suddenly pulling out a palm-sized stone from behind her and aiming it at the contract demon.
A miracle occurred.
The stone emitted a white glow, illuminating the entire corridor. Bathed in the beam of light, Chen Ke experienced extreme comfort and relaxation; his muscles became lethargic.
The contract demon was just six steps away from Laura, within reaching distance to tear her to shreds, but miraculously, it stopped in its tracks and made sounds similar to a cat purring, which sounded incredibly docile.
"What is this stone..." Chen Ke steadied himself against the cabin wall, murmuring to himself.
"Come over here, Chen Ke! This stone won’t last much longer..." Laura said.
The contract demon knelt submissively on the ground, its claws folded in front of its chest, its weird head bowed low to the ground, performing a motion that seemed like a prayer...
"No... this is the last chance."
Chen Ke recalled his armor and summoned the Moonlight Greatsword.
He wouldn’t consider the matter resolved until he killed this devil. His Holy Relics were able to hurt it and should be able to kill it. If all else failed, he could wrap it in a time suspension and throw it into the sea.
"You’re not hurt, are you?" Laura looked at Chen Ke, understanding what he intended to do, but the stone in her hand was already starting to crack.
"This damn thing broke my heart..." Chen Ke said, gripping the Moonlight with both hands and stabbing the sword horizontally into the contract demon’s back.
The azure Moonlight Greatsword, like a scalpel through butter, effortlessly pierced the contract demon from back to front.
The contract demon let out a whimper like a defeated dog, its claws tightly hugging the Moonlight Greatsword protruding from its abdomen, trying to pull it out, indicating its extreme fear of Magic Attribute damage.
Chen Ke twisted the hilt, tearing the wound further, then lifted upwards, splitting the contract demon’s upper body in half.
Purple pus and inexplicable internal organs spilled out like a flood, pouring into the puddles on the ground, staining the murky waters purple.
"Ugh..." Laura covered her mouth, closing her eyes to fight the urge to vomit.
The contract demon was dead.
