This Spiritual Energy is Lethal!
Chapter 268: Do Me a Favor

Chapter 268: Chapter 268: Do Me a Favor

Chen Ke sat quietly amid the refugees for half an hour, not knowing whether the other party couldn’t find him or didn’t want to forcibly break through the Fan Hede Knights guarding the fortress. The person in futuristic equipment never appeared again.

Chen Ke grew restless once more, judging by the life span that the killing intent had indicated, that person was much more formidable than the Silver Knights, which also confirmed Chen Ke’s speculation.

Be it Holy Relics or Spiritual Bullets, they were just carriers of Spiritual Attributes and special effects... they had nothing special in and of themselves.

Chen Ke, now possessing both the Crystal Gun and the Transcendent Skill of Spiritual Burst, still believed that the life countdown considered that mysterious person a greater threat to him. This meant that the weapon and equipment the other person used definitely were not ordinary goods.

If the Administration Bureau in 2009 could make Spiritual Bullets, the era that man came from... might even have the ability to create Holy Relics by now.

But this was in contradiction with another of Chen Ke’s guesses.

Previously, he had speculated that Holy Relics were equipment used by heroes of ancient days, and aside from the Spiritual Attributes, those entries should come from the heroes’ usual combat behaviors, just like that suit.

But if the mysterious person’s era could produce Holy Relics... how did they manage the entries? Just a regular assault rifle capable of firing bullets with attributes wouldn’t be enough to elevate someone’s combat capabilities to such a terrifying extent.

"The issue should still lie in the method of using Spiritual Energy. The equipment is secondary..." Chen Ke thought to himself.

He looked around, even in this transcendent era’s siege battles, Chen Ke had not seen combat performances that were too far beyond common sense, except for that giant Lightning.

It seems that in terms of enhancing combat capabilities, relying solely on Holy Relics was not enough. The greatest impact probably came from secret manual skills and the methods of utilizing Spiritual Energy.

With this in mind, he didn’t feel like learning any HEMA swordsmanship anymore. If he could find a sufficiently awesome secret manual skill that could resolve an opponent in one shot, or if he had a Spiritual Attributes gun, he’d just need to pull the trigger. There was no need to learn ancient swordsmanship or martial arts.

Armor and clothing type Holy Relics were still rather useful, at least providing protection of various attributes, but Chen Ke hadn’t found any good items of this sort. It seemed he would need to leave it to fate.

He couldn’t just sit there; the time and space here was a cycle, with the whole process freezing at crucial nodes, then rewinding back to the beginning to repeat. If he didn’t do anything, he would end up just like Brother Discouraged.

In the distance, a team of Silver Knights, probably around a dozen people, headed toward the gates of the fortress, seemingly wanting to search for other survivors in the city. Moreover, they seemed to be quietly arguing about something.

Chen Ke crouched down, squeezing through the crowd on one side, slowly making his way over to listen to what the commotion was about.

He reached the edge of the crowd, no more than 10 meters from the team of Silver Knights, and listened intently.

"The princess hasn’t been found... The king suspects she’s gone to the church," said a Silver Knight.

"...Without the Pope’s permission, no one can enter the church. If the princess really is there, she’s likely very safe," another Silver Knight responded.

"The king’s command is to bring her back to the palace," the Silver Knight shook his head.

"The Pope will not let us enter."

...

The team of Silver Knights, perhaps noticing they were too close to the crowd, stopped talking and moved further away.

"Damn it," Chen Ke muttered to himself, but he had no better plan and could only shrink back into the crowd.

It was clear that the Knight Order was also looking for Faralis. She had sneaked out, and Chen Ke had a bad feeling that this Princess Fan Hede was definitely going to stir up major news this time.

"I need to find a way to get to that girl..." Chen Ke grumbled, but going out to look for her in this attire was not a wise move. He needed an outfit suitable for the occasion.

"Hmm... maybe there will be... some things I can use," thought Chen Ke as he cast his gaze toward the nearby soldier camp.

If he could find a full set of soldier’s gear, he would have more freedom to move around both in and outside the camp.

The blue light flashed in his pupils, and the world within a hundred meters turned blue, with the outlines of hundreds of people coming fully into view. Soldiers and Knights around him bustled with activity.

Chen Ke stood up and casually walked toward a corner of the wall. Fortunately, almost no one paid attention to him, making it easy for him to reach the vicinity of the camp.

Many wounded soldiers were continually brought in from outside the fortress walls. To avoid drawing attention, Chen Ke even helped carry one side of a stretcher, blending into the camp.

The grass within the camp was stained red with blood over a large area, with hundreds of soldiers lying on stretchers, their white bandages soaked by the blood oozing from their wounds to an inky crimson.

In the Medieval period, which was even earlier than the Renaissance when the profession of ’doctor’ emerged, the era of the Fan Hede Kingdom clearly resembled the early Middle Ages, roughly 300 years before and after.

In that era, functions such as medical care and healing were generally carried out by religious officials. Given the low levels of personal hygiene awareness, sterilization, and medical standards, some diseases that could be easily cured in modern times were incurable back then.

For instance, wound infection and widespread open injuries.

These soldiers lay on the ground, many of them with injuries too gruesome to behold, and Chen Ke didn’t see anyone, resembling Priests for example, praying by their side. It seemed their fate was only to wait for death.

Chen Ke searched the camp but failed to find any soldier’s gear he could wear, feeling somewhat disappointed.

"Hey! You, give me a hand, will you?"

Just as Chen Ke was about to leave, someone suddenly tapped his shoulder.

He turned around to see a blood-covered Fan Hede Knight; he wasn’t a Silver Knight, just an ordinary soldier. His sword was covered in blood and the shield tied to his left arm was deeply chipped from sword cuts.

"I... what’s the matter?" Chen Ke was taken aback.

"Come... follow me. Quickly." The soldier said, grabbing Chen Ke’s wrist and pulling him toward a tent in the camp.

Chen Ke had no choice but to follow him into the tent, where a blood-covered soldier lay on a stretcher on the ground.

"Can you hold down his wound for me? I need to find a Priest to help," the soldier pleaded.

"Priest... aren’t they in the church...? It’s quite a distance from here..." Chen Ke shrugged.

"I know a Priest... he will help me. You just need to hold down the wound, I’ll be right back..." The soldier shook his head.

Chen Ke looked at the soldier lying on the ground, whose leather armor was cut open in the front, his belly half sliced with guts partially spilling out mixed with blood and the fluid in the abdominal cavity, staining the leather armor a dark brown.

The soldier lay there ashen-faced, utterly silent.

"Forgive my bluntness, friend... but he’s already... dead," Chen Ke sighed.

"Just press down on his wound... damn it, just press down, that’s all I’m asking of you..." the soldier refused to face the reality.

"Listen, the Priests won’t come to help you... and I also don’t think you’ll make it alive through the town twice..." Chen Ke said.

"Condolences..." Chen Ke made an apologetic gesture and slowly backed out of the tent. One cannot take life and death too seriously in war. The war was too distant for Chen Ke, even as he stood amidst the siege of Fan Hede, he placed himself merely as an observer.

He could not immerse himself in this war, nor could he understand the life and death partings of these people because to him, all these individuals were just cast in a cycle, long passed in an unknown era.
