Chapter 744: Chapter 617 Betting on the Devil’s Honor
"Zariel, I’m afraid your wish will be hard to fulfill."
Amberser’s words plunged Zariel into despair, but the Angel, struggling to control his emotions, asked, "What’s the difficulty? I know your personality; just tell me what the cost is."
Amberser however shook his head and said, "I’m a businessman, and I do indeed wish to make some profit in the middle, but that’s only if I can provide what you want. I can raise the price, but I would never deceive my clients with something I can’t provide. Heaven Mountain made it very clear, you are not eligible to return right now."
Zariel said with agitation, "Why not?! Haven’t the years of torment in hell been enough?! What have I done wrong to deserve eternal damnation in Hell!"
In Zariel’s view, he was an angel from Heaven Mountain with a holy mission to oversee the battle in Hell. It was those damned devils who captured him, forcibly turned him into a fallen angel, into a hideous devil. He fought ferociously until he was captured, never once breaking the rules of Heaven Mountain.
The fact that the deities did not come to his aid was one thing, but all he wanted after painfully separating Hell’s power was to go home, and even that was denied?!
"Don’t yell at me," Amberser said helplessly. "I’m not the one who makes the rules; I’m just the messenger. But Heaven Mountain foresaw this issue long ago."
Above the magic mirror, a flood of texts and images appeared, depicting everything that had happened when Zariel first entered Hell.
Amberser explained, "Zariel, when you were sent to oversee the war in Hell, your job was to supervise the devils’ blood battles, but you thought the devils were slacking, and the other angels turned a blind eye, so you decided to take matters into your own hands, leading your Hell Knight Corps to invade Hell... It might seem like a good deed on the surface, but the actual consequence was a severe loss for the Hell devils, the complete collapse of the Blood River Front, allowing demons to breach the first layer of Hell and cause irreversible losses in many worlds."
These were not just exaggerations by Amberser; they were officially recorded and investigated by Heaven Mountain.
Zariel, a grand angel, was forsaken in Hell primarily for this reason.
Otherwise, with the vast influence of Heaven Mountain, it would be impossible not to retrieve an angel; the allies of the Lord of the Dawn alone were numerous, and the combined deities would surely compel Hell to show respect.
To eternally fall and guard the Blood River was Zariel’s punishment to accept, a tacit agreement between Heaven Mountain and Hell.
Now Zariel has abandoned his post, saying he wants to go home.
It’s not just about whether the Lord of Hell agrees; Heaven Mountain couldn’t possibly agree either!
Yet, Zariel showed no surprise at this revelation, but rather impatience, "The same old story, I’m tired of hearing it. Those devils barely resisting the Abyss let the demons overrun everything. If I hadn’t decided to invade then, the Abyss wouldn’t be in its current state. I broke what was so-called a tacit agreement between Heaven Mountain and Hell, I forced Hell to take responsibility for resisting a demon invasion.
"Without me, the demons could still invade countless planes, it was me suppressing these demons at the Blood River for countless years. I’ve never thought I was wrong back then, and if I was, these years have absolved me! What reason do they still have to prevent me from returning to Heaven Mountain?!"
Listening, Amberser felt helpless; this was a negotiation that could not be measured in numbers.
Both parties had their stances; Heaven Mountain and Hell considered it routine operation to barely pass the battles, Zariel believed this was no different than not resisting at all.
Amberser, not having personally experienced the situation, couldn’t offer his answer, but it seemed to him that perhaps there was no absolute right or wrong here.
But Amberser repeated his words, "Don’t yell at me, I didn’t make the rules, if you have the ability, blow up Hell and Heaven Mountain and make your own rules. The problem now is that whatever you say, those powerful divine forces completely ignore and don’t want to deal with you. So, Zariel, Heaven Mountain won’t open its doors, you can’t return, and you’ll just continue to fall into Hell, to be recaptured and retrained into a wicked fallen angel."
After a moment of silence, Zariel responded, "No, I will die here, burning my soul and turning this Blood River Front into ashes."
Zariel had made his decision; he would no longer become a devil, a cruel and malevolent being tormented in both body and soul. An angel burning all of himself could completely destroy the Blood River Front, and what would happen then was uncertain.
Maybe it would result in the extinction of all devils, demons swarming out, or possibly even the destruction of the Blood River, with tributaries of the Nether River redirected, causing great calamity in other planes.
Regardless of which outcome, Zariel’s move was one of mutual destruction.
Because of this possibility, there was reason for Amberser to talk with him.
Neither Heaven Mountain nor Hell wanted to see such a scenario unfold; deities were not omnipotent. Zariel, no matter how fallen, was still a deity.
No one could confidently assure they could suppress him before he committed suicide.
"So, we still have a chance to talk," Amberser sighed and said, "Zariel, what’s your final bottom line?"
Zariel shook his head, "I can give up everything; I just want to return to my homeland. I miss the sky there, the sunshine, and the flowers. I don’t want to rot wrapped in sulfur and bloodshed in Hell."
