Chapter 743: Chapter 616: The Deceiver with Wide Connections_4
But Harvey also had another feeling—he believed that if he kept using this Legendary ability, it might not be him who was unlucky; rather, it might be someone else paying the price. Although it was just a feeling, what Diviner Mages valued most was indeed their intuition.
The Goddess of Fate’s grace was this gossamer.
It had no effect by itself but acted like reactive armor. Any harm intended for Harvey would be turned against the attacker, and the cost would be paid by these enemies.
Of course, feelings were just feelings, and they still needed to be proven by real data. Harvey had just gained this ability and couldn’t yet determine how it worked.
Harvey decided to continue maintaining the effect of this Legendary ability until he left Hell.
"Teacher, let’s not talk about that for now; look at Zariel..." Harvey beckoned Amberser to observe Zariel, who was emanating Holy Light. He was curious what choice his teacher would make.
Would he open a portal for Zariel to return to Heaven Mountain and become the Grand Duke of Hell himself?
Or would he refuse Zariel’s request and help Bayer break the Seal?
Both options were favorable for Amberser since the control of the first layer of Hell was now in his hands.
The Magic Mirror flew up into the air and positioned itself in front of the angelic Zariel.
"Duke Zariel, let us have a talk," Amberser said.
Zariel was initially fully concentrated on sealing Bayer. Sensing the approach of the Magic Mirror, his golden eyes finally turned to look in Amberser’s direction.
Zariel said, "There’s no time for conversation. Soon, the other realms of Hell will sense the change in the first layer, and their armies will burst in to either kill me or capture me. Even if I send all my subordinates to resist, once Asmodeus awakens, my death is certain."
Amberser sighed and said, "Don’t worry, I have arranged everything. I just contacted Mammon and Disparte. The second and third levels of Hell will act as barriers, and no Archduke of the Devils’ forces will invade the first layer for now. As for the Lord of Hell, I have made a request to Ogma, and both the Lord of the Dawn and the Grim Reaper have responded. Asmodeus should give these divine beings some face and give you enough time to talk to me."
Hearing this, Zariel couldn’t help but sigh, "When we last met, you were merely an insignificant mortal. In such a short time, a major event that could destroy the first layer of Hell has been suppressed by just a few of your words."
Amberser laughed, "It’s not my ability; I just have a wide network. Moreover, those high and mighty divine beings don’t want real chaos in the first layer of Hell either."
This statement sounded humble, but those who heard it wouldn’t think so—who else but a mortal could have such an extensive network? With Zariel plotting rebellion in the first layer of Hell, the other Grand Dukes not only refrained from directly quelling the revolt but also helped guard the gate. The Lord of Knowledge, the Lord of the Dawn, the Grim Reaper—who among these wasn’t a renowned and powerful divine force? They also had to give Amberser face and hinder a possibly enraged Lord of Hell.
Everyone present felt the capability of this "Deceiver." Previously, when he spoke of ending the Blood Battle, many took it as a joke. Now, it seemed no joke at all; the united front of these divine beings might actually make ending the Blood Battle possible.
Amberser continued to Zariel, "Release Bayer, please. There’s a bit of trouble at Blood River Fortress, and he is needed there."
Without further ado, Zariel released the Seal on Bayer, turning the Seal back into the Holy Fire Longsword in Zariel’s hand.
Bayer had just regained his freedom but did not attack Zariel.
He had heard what Amberser had said earlier. Today’s event wasn’t just a private grudge between him and Zariel but a major concern involving many divine beings, concerning the ownership of the first layer of Hell.
"I believe I also have the right to sit at this negotiating table," Bayer said.
But Amberser shook his head and said, "Sorry, my followers have stirred up a bit of trouble. I fear the Demons will soon counterattack."
Bayer frowned and asked, "Your followers, those Mercury Slimes? What have they done?"
Amberser explained, "They accidentally captured a Demon of a special status... For the details, you’ll have to go and see for yourself. Bayer, please fulfill your responsibilities now. I can only ensure Zariel won’t be crushed immediately when the Lord of Hell awakens, but I can’t say the same for you."
Bayer almost wished he could cleave Amberser, this arrogant bastard, in two with his sword. A mere mortal, daring to speak to him in such a tone. But now...
"Hmph!"
Bayer coldly snorted in anger, then turned and left the palace.
The Blood River Battlefield was indeed the most crucial. If there were issues there, even if he gained the power of the first layer of Hell, it would be useless. The Lord of Hell could just slap him to death and take back that power.
When Bayer left, the others also tactfully exited the palace, leaving only Amberser and the angelic Zariel.
Looking at the holy and stunningly beautiful face in front of him, Amberser sighed and said, "Zariel, your wish may be hard to fulfill."
