Chapter 740: Chapter 616: The Deceiver with Extensive Connections
The furnace for forging souls clanked and hissed, belching black smoke as if on the verge of explosion.
The machinery wasn’t old, but this was the first time a fragment of a Deity had been crushed and shoved in as fuel. Perhaps it was because the kindling was too fierce that the furnace ultimately burst into pieces under Bayer’s gaze.
Harvey’s body was wrapped in a divine radiance, drifting slowly from midair, looking like a god newly born.
Bayer frowned. What is this?
A half-god?
Did Hircine cause such a commotion to resurrect a demigod?
But no matter what it was, it was something he had paid a hefty price to create, and it belonged to him.
Bayer extended his hand, wanting to grab Harvey in one go.
First, lock him up, and later consider whether to dissect or directly consume him. In any case, he had to recoup some losses.
Bayer’s huge palm opened, generating a suction force, aiming to grasp Harvey in his hand.
No matter what kind of demigod you are, a newly born youngster has no power to resist in the presence of an Archduke of the Devils like Bayer.
Harvey’s eyes were tightly closed, as if still in a coma, but at this moment, all of Bayer’s movements became extremely slow in Harvey’s perception.
Time seemed almost to stand still, with only Harvey’s soul still lively.
But Harvey did nothing. He was just savoring the feeling of that momentary flash of insight. Trapped in the ensnaring web of fate, like an ensnared insect, how did he escape?
On the surface, Harvey remained motionless, but just as Bayer was about to grab him, a light, gossamer-like radiance descended upon Harvey, transforming into a Goddess full of compassion and light, embracing Harvey in her arms.
The illusion halted Bayer’s hand for a moment.
It wasn’t that the illusion possessed any formidable defensive power; it simply puzzled Bayer.
He couldn’t sense any power from the illusion. It seemed to be nothing more than a trick of light and shadow, utterly ineffective.
"Merely an Illusion Technique, another trick from Hircine!"
Bayer snorted coldly, reaching out again. This time he intended to crush Harvey completely, keeping only that costly soul.
However, just as Bayer put force in his palm, a blazing white Flame descended from the sky, piercing straight through the center of his palm, nailing it to the ground.
Bayer let out a scream, but in the next second, his mouth was filled with flames.
A sword edge, bearing Holy Fire, pierced through the back of his neck, pinning him to his seat.
"Hah..."
Bayer made a shocked sound. In front of him, a six-winged Angel of beauty appeared, wielding the Flaming Longsword from which the flame came.
It was Zariel, but not the shattered Archduke of the Devils; rather, the angelic form of Zariel.
When he initially breached Hell, it was with a twin sword ablaze with Holy Fire that he slaughtered countless Demons, including quite a few famed generals of the Blood River Fortress.
He should be constantly suffering from corruption by Hell Law, forever maintaining the form of a Fallen Angel.
When did he return to an Angel’s form?! Why had the first layer of hell’s Hell Law not stopped him?!
Bayer was completely baffled.
On the surface, Zariel might seem the ruler of the first layer of hell, but in reality, he was a prisoner of Hell, a sinner eternally tormented. The fragmented scars on his face were the perpetual marks of Zariel’s torment.
Yet now, Zariel’s form was immaculate, a perfect embodiment of holy purity, without the slightest imperfection.
This was impossible, absolutely impossible!
Bayer had thought there was a problem with Hell Law that weakened Zariel’s controlled Power, far from thinking that Zariel was planning an escape.
But why, having regained his angelic form, didn’t Zariel flee? Why was he here instead?
Bayer had no time to ponder the answer, for the surging Holy Fire had already engulfed his body, fiercely burning his soul.
Bayer struggled madly. Though Holy Fire had a restraining effect on Devils, Bayer was not so easily vanquished.
Torrents of Hellfire erupted from Bayer’s wounds, causing an earth-shattering explosion upon collision with the Holy Fire. Bayer had thought Zariel would give way, that if given the opportunity of freedom, he would be able to muster all of the Blood River Fortress’s Power against this Angel.
But Zariel did not retreat, not even defending himself, letting the two energies explode in front of him, scarring his holy form with countless wounds.
Golden blood flowed, proving Zariel was seriously injured, yet Bayer also lost any chance of escape. The two Holy Fire Longswords had turned into Seals, completely trapping Bayer’s body, utterly unable to break free in the short term.
Zariel had stolen the opportunity with a surprise attack, then used his injury as a price to forcefully Seal Bayer.
When Zariel had done all this, Harvey had just landed on the ground, completely unharmed.
When Harvey opened his eyes, he was met with Zariel’s golden gaze.
Zariel said, "Go, tell your teacher it was I who saved you! And I will also hand over the authority of the first layer of hell to him, but on one condition, let him open the passage to Heaven Mountain for me! Be quick, I don’t have much time!"
After saying this, Zariel became like a statue, utterly motionless.
Zariel needed all his strength to maintain the Seal on Bayer, unable to afford even the slightest distraction from now on.
