Chapter 729: Chapter 611: Chaotic Ritual, Fate’s Arrangement_3
Hircine, although unable to wield the Power of Destiny, could easily discern the connection between the deceiver and the victim as the Prince of Lies, and he soon found ten suitable sacrifices.
The last one proved to be the most troublesome, though—it had to be someone who had received Amberser’s favor, had close ties with him, and was willing to betray willingly. Such a person was not easy to find.
Hircine pondered for a long time. Was there such a person around Amberser?
The Withered Rose was not fitting; though their affection for each other was deep, the Withered Rose herself was nearing oblivion, her soul approaching "emptiness," devoid of gratitude and incapable of harboring the malice of betrayal.
"That alchemist named Isabel?" Hircine quickly shook his head, dismissing this option.
The sacrifice related to love had already been chosen, and adding another would only affect the ritual’s efficacy. Isabel’s feelings for Amberser were complex, not simply of mentor and student, which made them harder to manipulate.
"It seems there’s only one option left."
The pale elf conjured up a phantom orb, which landed in the cage and transformed into the face of a young man. He was William Harvy, Amberser’s student, the most talented Diviner Mage.
"Indeed, he is the best choice; however, getting him to betray will require some effort."
Harvy had a good relationship with Amberser; they both owed each other their lives. In terms of closeness, it was doubtful anyone could compare.
While Hircine contemplated how to make Harvy betray Amberser, he suddenly turned his head toward the direction of the castle gates.
"Who might be arriving now?"
The pale elf’s eyes pierced through the walls, witnessing everything outside the castle.
A weary young man appeared just outside the castle, pushing open the great doors with his Magic Wand, seemingly intending to enter.
And this young man was none other than Harvy.
The castle doors slowly opened, and Harvy walked in slowly.
The long-unattended castle now held a faint scent of decay.
Harvy paid it no mind; he simply stepped forward, walking deeper into the castle.
His presence here was because he had sensed an indication from the Power of Destiny. Inside this castle lay his opportunity to advance to Legendary.
This premonition was so strong that Harvy simply could not ignore it.
However, it seemed the Goddess of Fate had additional instructions for him; he had to come here alone, without letting anyone know, or he would face unprecedented peril.
This premonition was equally intense.
Harvy’s first reaction was—was it that targeted?
As Amberser’s student, there were hardly any secrets between this mentor and student. The Goddess of Fate’s instructions required him to tell no one, which meant keeping it from his own teacher, right?
Harvy felt helpless; he knew Amberser had completely ceased using the Power of Destiny recently, repeating his pattern of flouting the Goddess’s will. This time, the Goddess’s instructions were probably related to his teacher.
If only Harvy could have two more years, he might be able to say "no" to the Goddess of Fate’s instructions. His prior research into the methods of eluding Destiny had made significant progress; time was all he needed. Once successful, he could freely eliminate those unfortunate futures, forever choosing the future he desired.
But unfortunately, the Goddess of Fate had anticipated this too, so she imposed a destiny on Harvy that he could not refuse.
One was the mysterious Goddess, the other his own teacher; Harvy felt the helplessness of a child watching parents argue. And he had no choice; he couldn’t defy Destiny’s arrangement, or he truly might die from a fall the very next day, just by stepping out the front door with his left foot.
"Let it come, since it’s a premonition of advancement to Legendary, it’s good for me anyway."
Harvy consoled himself, continuing deeper into the castle, and soon he saw a pale elf with an eerie presence before him.
The strange pale elf waved at him, saying, "William Harvy, I’ve been waiting for you for a long time."
