Chapter 726: Chapter 610: Internal and External Coordination_3
The crisp sound of shattering turned into a heavy hammer, ruthlessly striking the heart of the Arcane Knight.
"This can’t be possible, even if the power of the Revenge Storm were several times greater, it couldn’t destroy the Royal Palace’s Defensive Magic Array in such a short time!" The Arcane Knight was extremely shocked. If the magical defenses of the Royal Palace were so easily breached, the Dwarves would have been annihilated long ago.
However, the fact was that the Defense Magic Array was destroyed, and the power of the Revenge Storm began to rapidly devastate everything within the Royal Palace.
In two other directions of the Royal Palace, two forces of Nightmare Knights had already scaled the walls and were rushing towards the interior, where flames roared and the fires of Hell were burning everything.
The magical defenses of the Royal Palace weren’t supposed to be so easily breached, but unfortunately, there were not only Dwarves inside the Dwarf Palace.
This was a multi-racial nation, and the establishment of the Defense Magic Array couldn’t have been accomplished without the support of the Goblin Bank. Thus, long ago, the goblin bank manager had left insiders within the Royal Palace.
Originally, these insiders were of little use because the act of sabotaging the Magic Array would create a huge commotion that couldn’t be concealed. But now, with Amberser leading the Devils in the siege, the loud noises created by the Revenge Storm had masked everything. The attack came too swiftly; no one would have expected the Devils to have insiders.
The Magic Array was sabotaged and gaps appeared in the defense; the other two Nightmare Knight forces then rushed in, initiating rampant destruction.
They didn’t need to kill many; they just needed to plunge the Royal Palace into chaos.
Palaces were demolished, scenic spots turned into seas of fire.
There were still many Legendary warriors in the Royal Palace, but they couldn’t locate the enemy; they themselves were swept up in the chaos of the crowd, unable to restore order within the Royal Palace anytime soon.
The Legendary fighters fought independently, also struggling to resist the pressure of the Revenge Storm.
The Nightmare Knights caused mayhem, pushing the Dwarves into further chaos.
At that moment, the Dwarf King had just arrived at the walls when he was struck several times by lightning, nearly turning him into charcoal.
He didn’t know what had happened; he only knew that the entire Royal Palace was in disarray. He saw only a sea of fire and couldn’t see clearly how many Devils there were. Then, a group of guards came up to the Dwarf King and said, "Your Majesty, let’s temporarily avoid these Devils. No matter how many of them there are, they can’t stay here for long. Your safety is paramount. Let’s leave temporarily through the secret passage."
Protecting the Dwarf King to leave was left to the commanders; after all, the Devils would eventually be eliminated. They could only cause some destruction and could not truly occupy the entire Royal Palace. Perhaps they were just there to harvest some souls and create some panic.
It was just as in the stories; ultimately, the Devils could not have much impact on this world and would be driven back into Hell.
Therefore, the Dwarf King hesitated for a moment but then agreed with his guards’ suggestion and left the wall under the protection of his guards, heading towards the nearest palace.
Dwarves are experts at construction; almost every palace had special secret passages underneath, many known only to the Dwarf King himself, and thus he could always find a way to escape.
This was also the reason Seth Yuri believed that assassination was almost impossible.
Just after the Dwarf King entered the secret passage, several green lights rose in the Royal Palace—they were special alchemical fireworks, shining brightly even under the cover of the Revenge Storm.
Seeing this, Amberser stopped casting.
This was the signal agreed with the insider. When the alchemical fireworks exploded, it meant that the Dwarf King had left the Royal Palace, and according to the plan, they could now retreat.
Otherwise, once the Dwarves recovered, Ange Watson and his men would all die here.
The Nightmare Knights could only create chaos; a few hundred of them could not truly destroy this city. If they forced those Legendary fighters to fight desperately regardless of the lives below, then Ange Watson and his men would also suffer heavy losses.
Amberser casted a spell again, but this time it was "Laila’s True Illusion."
A thick fog began to envelop the Royal Palace, obscuring the Dwarves’ vision. This was also the signal agreed upon with Ange Watson; it was time to retreat.
Unaffected by the Illusion Realm, the Nightmare Knights immediately turned their horses and left the Royal Palace.
And because their vision was obstructed, the Dwarves didn’t dare to pursue but focused entirely on extinguishing the fire and stabilizing the situation.
Seth Yuri must have also received the news; it was now up to him. If he couldn’t handle the Dwarf King after this, then this Godfavored might as well go home and rest, waiting for the Dwarven Gods to choose a new Dwarf King.
The Dwarf King, who had escaped into the secret passage, still didn’t know he had been tricked and was still running towards safety.
But just as he was about to reach the end of the tunnel, a pale-faced Elf appeared in front of everyone.
The Elf, with a face full of regret, said to the Dwarf King, "Timid King, true Hell lies ahead; it’s not too late to turn back."
