Chapter 712: Chapter 605 Goblin’s Suggestion_2
The lively scene owed much to Gustavo Flint, as alchemy developed rapidly in the Dwarf Kingdom and the main reason for the kingdom’s economic growth was the reopening of numerous alchemy factories.
As Gustavo Flint looked around more, his heart grew increasingly discontent.
After experiencing the thrill of changing the world, how could he go back to being alone in his laboratory?
Before he realized it, Gustavo Flint found himself standing in front of a magnificent building.
A massive sign for the Goblin Bank hung above, crafted from pure gold and bedazzled with many gems.
There was no aesthetic appeal at all, just a simple and crude nouveau-riche style, yet the sign alone was worth millions of gold coins. The Goblin Bank used this straightforward method to showcase its wealth, reassuring the residents of the Dwarf Kingdom about depositing their money there.
Moreover, the bank consistently performed well, and even when the dwarves migrated, the goblins decisively followed and did not lose a single customer’s asset.
This earned the Goblin Bank praise from all, and it generously offered vast amounts of gold as interest-free loans when the dwarves were rebuilding their nation. With such direct tactics, the Goblin Bank defeated all competitors and became the sole designated bank of the kingdom.
Initially, Gustavo Flint had borrowed a substantial amount of gold coins from this bank, which had stabilized his status as the president of the Alchemist Association.
Now, as he was about to lose everything, why had he unconsciously come to this place?
Gustavo Flint stared at the huge sign, reading the well-known slogan—"Money can solve most problems."
This was the slogan for the Goblin Bank’s loans, a very sensible statement.
But could money solve the problems of the Alchemist Association?
As if possessed, Gustavo Flint walked in; today, he really needed to talk with these goblins.
Before long, Gustavo Flint found himself deep inside the bank, in the most opulent room.
The goblin bank manager, Donald Grandet, was leisurely drinking date tea, seemingly unsurprised by Gustavo Flint’s arrival.
"You should have come earlier, Master Flynn, our business isn’t finished yet," said Grandet, pouring a cup of tea for Gustavo Flint.
Gustavo Flint had no interest in tea. Sitting across from the goblin bank manager, he said gravely, "I recall our dealings are settled."
Gustavo Flint had exchanged some secret knowledge for a high-value loan from the Goblin Bank, and now that he had fully repaid his debt, there were indeed no other transactions left.
The goblin bank manager showed no concern for this dismissive demeanor. Politely rubbing his hands adorned with gem-filled rings, he said, "Our bank’s mission has always been to alleviate our clients’ troubles, paying to solve their problems. You have troubles; that forms the basis for cooperation. I’ve heard a bit about the recent issues the Alchemist Association is facing. Why didn’t you come sooner?"
"What can Goblin Bank possibly do to solve the Association’s problems?" Gustavo Flint inquired.
Although he knew it was unlikely, he still wanted to hear the manager’s proposal; perhaps there was a chance for a turnaround?
"Ha ha, let us first discuss the challenges you are facing. There have been too many alchemists promoted within the Alchemist Association recently, and you can’t keep up with the benefits, can you? But benefits are really just a money issue. If they could be replaced with gold coins, perhaps those alchemists wouldn’t have much to complain about, right?"
Gustavo Flint shook his head and said, "If you want me to borrow money to solve this problem, you should give up. This isn’t an emergency. Each alchemist’s welfare is lifetime guaranteed, and once an equivalent amount of gold coins is distributed, the Alchemist Association will quickly go bankrupt, and I won’t possibly be able to repay the loan."
Businesses need emergency responses and loans because there is a possibility to earn back the money, and after repaying the loan, it’s resolved.
But the welfare of these alchemists needs to be paid every month, and now the issue is that the Alchemist Association doesn’t have such huge profits to sustain it. What’s the point of borrowing money, if the same situation recurs next month?
The goblin bank won’t always provide interest-free loans, especially not to someone who definitely can’t repay.
"Master Flynn, you understand alchemy, but you don’t understand what financial operation means. The Alchemist Association is now unable to increase production capacity, which in turn prevents profit growth, and it can’t support the suddenly increased group of alchemists. The plans you had previously to expand overseas encountered severe obstacles, resulting in some losses.
"There is no way to increase revenue, nor can you cut costs. It seems like you are just waiting to die. But have you considered one thing? This is the problem of your Alchemist Association, why should you alone bear it? There are so many members in your association, and all the advanced alchemists are wealthy tycoons. Why are you the only one worrying about this issue?"
Gustavo Flint was taken aback; it seemed there was some truth to these words.
Indeed, there were many members in the association, and he was just one person with two votes. Why should the other members be indifferent?
It seemed that the goblin bank manager had been prepared. Without waiting for Gustavo Flint to think, he provided the answer, "Because they have found a new backer and are just waiting for your downfall, Master Flynn. They have sold you out and are ready to push all the blame onto you, forcing you to take all the responsibility and step down, then they can reform the ranking system of the alchemists. At that time, not only will they have resolved the major crisis of the association, but they will also have ousted you, achieving a huge gain."
People who do experiments ultimately can’t compare to those who do business. Gustavo Flint stared with wide eyes; he really hadn’t considered this possibility.
"Wait a minute, why are you telling me this?! Those big families should be working closely with your bank, right? You should be on their side, helping them to swallow me up."
But Donald Grandet shook his head and said, "No, no, no, Master Flynn, you underestimate your own value. Those nobles from your association indeed approached our bank, discussing the business of restructuring the association’s assets after your bankruptcy. But what is this Alchemist Association? We aren’t concerned about the association itself; we’re concerned about you, Master Flynn.
"As a Legendary Alchemist, you are much more important than this shell of an organization. If you would cooperate with our bank, we could solve your problems, by providing you with an interest-free loan to help you through these next two months, and then we will deal with those nobles. They can push the blame onto you, and so can you.
"Removing some of the higher-ups in the association should be punishment enough to shut those alchemists up. Later, you can slowly consider the reforms."
This suggestion illuminated Gustavo Flint’s thoughts.
Indeed, it was reasonable. There was no reason for him to be the scapegoat; why couldn’t others take the blame?
By kicking out those who had been simply warming their seats, the Alchemist Association would become more vibrant, and pushing through reforms afterward would be simpler.
That said, but Gustavo Flint suddenly frowned and looked at the goblin in front of him.
"Mr. Grandet, why do you want to help me?"
This question had to be clarified; Gustavo Flint didn’t believe in any talk about strengthening cooperation. This loan was huge, and whether he could repay it was debatable. Goblins wouldn’t make a losing deal.
The old goblin, his face lined with wrinkles, smiled and said, "Of course it’s not without compensation. In business, we offer you an irresistible proposition, naturally expecting to get back something only you can provide. Master Flynn, the information you provided before has been mostly restored by us.
"However, we still lack a true expert to oversee the entire ceremony.
"We offer you help, and in return, you help us complete that ceremony, successfully performing Wishing Spell one time. What do you think of this deal?"
