Chapter 710: Chapter 604: Truth is a Bird That Can Never Be Caged_3
But as soon as this idea was proposed, it was opposed by all members of the Alchemist Association.
Not every alchemist is Legendary, even among Advanced Alchemists, who doesn’t have relatives and friends in this trade? Such a wholesale demotion would slash the benefits they had.
They wouldn’t agree, so how could those alchemists who had just passed the exam agree?
If this system were implemented, the Alchemist Association would undoubtedly collapse quickly.
But delaying it wasn’t a solution either. Gustavo Flint had to solve this problem as soon as possible. It wasn’t just about the Alchemist Association, it would also affect his cooperation with the Goblin Bank.
A long time ago, when the new Alchemist Association was founded, Gustavo Flint faced a severe economic crisis and had to borrow from those crazy goblins, except he didn’t pay interest but was forced to participate in the goblins’ insane plans.
Now, Gustavo Flint had been warned multiple times that if the Alchemist Association couldn’t resolve this issue quickly, they would buy out the entire Alchemist Association to not affect their secret plans and relegate Gustavo to a mere worker’s position.
As he pondered what to do, the Magic Mirror on the desk lit up without any operation, and the God of Alchemy appeared on its surface.
Gustavo Flint had never seen the true face of the God of Alchemy. The last time they met, it was just a constructed avatar by the Deity, quite different from today’s appearance.
But the moment he saw the God of Alchemy, Gustavo Flint knew who it was. He stared at the person in the mirror in shock for a long while before respectfully saying, "Wise and great Deity, has your arrival come to bring me even worse news?"
The God of Alchemy sighed and said, "Flint, stop. An alchemist should focus on scholarship; striving for power and wealth brings you no good."
Gustavo Flint gave a bitter smile and said, "I see, it was all your doing. I thought it was that damned Lich."
Although the news of Amberser’s revival was still being concealed, for many significant figures it was no secret at all, and the commotion in Hell couldn’t have gone unnoticed by anyone in this Plane.
The God of Alchemy shook his head and said, "Your heart is full of jealousy, and this emotion has affected your judgment. You could have made different choices, but you still made the greediest and most wrong decision."
If Gustavo Flint hadn’t coveted Amberser’s properties and behaved like the Elf Tribe, Amberser wouldn’t have schemed against the Alchemist Association, and Gustavo wouldn’t have ended up in his current state.
However, these words seemed to enrage the Legendary Alchemist. Gustavo Flint said angrily, "You don’t even hide your favoritism! You are the God of Alchemy; you should be protecting us alchemists, why choose this Lich?!"
The God of Alchemy did not answer his question but slowly started talking about the past.
"Flint, when you were ten years old and first encountered Alchemy, curiosity led you to combine two potions, causing an explosion that blew off your right hand. But you weren’t scared; instead, you wrote a diary entry. Do you remember what you wrote back then?"
Gustavo Flint was taken aback, not expecting the God of Alchemy to bring up this matter. How did He know about it? Gustavo himself had almost forgotten.
"I don’t remember," Gustavo Flint said through clenched teeth.
"You wrote in your diary that once you became an alchemist, you would include this accident in your books to let other alchemists know it would explode. It was from that day I started paying attention to you."
He has been watching me?
Impossible, utterly impossible!
"Flint, like those apprentices, you were once desperate to know everything and eager to share everything with others. I watched you grow and stray from your path. You were once happy to share your discoveries with others, but in the end, you became a staunch supporter of hoarding knowledge."
Gustavo Flint said in anger, "That is the reality of Alchemy; we need funds, we need materials. Without monopolizing knowledge, how do we accumulate these things? One experiment might require thousands of Gold Coins for trial and error; if formulas were disclosed casually, others could replicate them for just a few silver coins, and I would have starved long ago."
The God of Alchemy shook his head and said, "I’m not discussing right or wrong with you. I’m just telling you a reality, like water flows to the lower ground, like the stable nature of Gold, like the fact that the Youth Potion can’t be made without Elf Tribe’s magical materials. This isn’t about right or wrong; this is fact.
"And the fact is, truth is a bird that cannot be caged, and one day it will break free and fly in front of everyone. You have been locking away the knowledge of Alchemy, but you never prepared for this day. You say I’m biased, but let me tell you, I’ve never given him any blessing in Alchemy. On the contrary, every one of you Legendary Alchemists received my help in reaching your ranks; I merely never told you."
