Chapter 702: Chapter 601 The Differences of Alchemy
Mercury was not a rare substance.
In Hell, even gold was cheap, not much more expensive than ordinary copper and iron.
But mercury typically existed in a mineral form, and the mercury here was quite pure, as if someone had specifically refined it.
Not only that, but the mercury that flowed out from the spatial rift carried a strange odor, like that of demons, yet mixed with something else.
Parurier could only guess that a large amount of mercury existed inside the spatial channel frequented by demons, and had managed to let some flow out by opening it slightly.
Although unexpected, Parurier thought it was not worth fussing over.
Spatial chaos dominated the area, and it would not be strange if even a dragon emerged instead of mercury.
All that mattered was to capture it, so Parurier stabilized the spatial rift, securing its position before attempting to open the rift. The risk was significant, as no one knew what was on the other side. If opening it caused a flood of demons or even a clone of Dimogorgen to leap out, it would be a major problem.
But Parurier was mad and didn’t care about that.
A massive magic power tried to stabilize the rift, beginning to widen the passage gradually to at least allow someone to go through and explore the other side.
However, the "size" mentioned wasn’t in the literal sense.
Shrinking Technique wasn’t a particularly difficult spell, and naturally, Parurier knew it. What really mattered was the stability of the channel. To effectively block the battlefield, Bayer had painstakingly set up various restrictions. He not only divided the Blood River Battlefield into a labyrinth but more importantly, he suppressed the "entry level" of these spatial channels. The battlefield was divided into the periphery, intended for the weaker Devil Army. Normally, no clone of Dimogorgen would come bursting through to wreak havoc.
Parurier’s task now was to break these limits, creating a space channel large enough for him to pass.
This act was a severe provocation to Bayer, but Parurier didn’t care, as he intended to plunge in now and see what the Nether River truly looked like.
Magic power began to pour in, turning the small spatial rift gradually into a larger hole, eventually the size of a fist.
However, unknowingly triggering something, as the hole grew to the size of a basin, the once sparse mercury suddenly surged like a fountain, splashing Parurier’s face.
This was not water but mercury, denser than most metals. Even in liquid form, under high pressure, it hit Parurier hard.
The heavy mercury cruelly washed over Parurier’s face, but he could neither dodge nor let go, for if he did, the stable rift would escape.
Not knowing how many tons of impact he bore, Parurier’s skin almost tore apart but he barely managed to stabilize the spatial rift.
Yet, as soon as he released his hold, Parurier was violently slammed to the ground by the mercury fountain.
At this moment, the location of the Magic Array was now covered by a myriad of mercury, creating a small mercury pool.
Parurier awkwardly climbed out of the mercury pool, watching the still furiously spurting column of silver liquid, and cursed fiercely, "Damn it, I underestimated the rules of the Blood River Fortress."
The spatial rift was stabilized and wouldn’t move about anymore, but Parurier found it was already at its limit.
The Blood River Fortress, ensuring demons wouldn’t roam freely, had very strict rules for ingress and egress. Just as Parurier tried to create a channel large enough for himself, he hit the upper limit. A deity-like him simply couldn’t pass through.
To expand the spatial channel further, he’d have to dismantle the entire Blood River Fortress.
More frustrating for Parurier was that he had triggered the Blood River Fortress’s magic countermeasures. Detecting unauthorized enlargement of a spatial channel, the channel was forcefully fixed.
That meant Parurier could now not even close the spatial channel, forced to watch the mercury continuously flow.
And there was more trouble behind. The Blood River Fortress had likely already dispatched elites to investigate. If Parurier couldn’t provide a reasonable explanation, Melina would be in trouble.
Parurier reluctantly pulled out the Magic Mirror to contact Amberser.
Briefly explaining the situation, allowing Amberser to see the now-formed Mercury Lake, Amberser uttered an unsurprisingly mocking remark.
"You can’t even handle this small task, Parurier? You’ve truly degenerated after a few hundred years in Hell; even your brain has rusted."
Parurier gritted his teeth in hatred, but indeed he had slipped up this time. Having not often ventured into the first layer of Hell, nor participated in blood battles, he was unfamiliar with the details.
"I will handle things with Zariel and Bayer, and ensure that Melina isn’t punished."
Amberser now spoke with particular assertiveness, as if he owned Hell.
Parurier watched the Mercury Lake, wanting to seal the rift, but then he heard Amberser say, "Hold on, are you sure this spatial channel leads into the Nether River?"
"Theoretically... yes, but I’ve never been there myself and can’t be certain."
Parurier was uncertain too, but the scent of demons couldn’t be faked; the entire pool of mercury reeked of demons. Surely there was a significant presence of demons on the other side. Even if it didn’t lead directly to a tributary of the Nether River, it should at least point the way.
