Chapter 672: Chapter 587: Returning to the Original Place
The Laine Empire was just a few days away from hosting the international conference.
Logically speaking, Laine actually had no right to host this meeting, especially since the primary responsibility for the world turmoil that had lasted a thousand years lay with Laine.
Since their second Emperor, they had implemented policies of human supremacy and extreme xenophobia, which then led to so many subsequent conflicts and hatred.
However, whether it was over a thousand years ago or a thousand years later, Arthur Laine was the one who ultimately saved the world.
No matter how much others hated the Laine Empire, they still had to give some respect to this Holy King.
And Allen was the one who had inherited the will of the Holy King, which was something all nations had not denied.
Another point was that a starving camel is still bigger than a horse. No matter how many problems were within Laine, the sheer size of the empire was there, so Laine scheduled the international conference with a humble attitude and expressed its willingness to make reparations to all nations.
This attitude was already rather good, and with the Dwarves and Orcs, holding the greatest grudges, having already agreed, other nations accepted this fact as well.
What was even more unexpected, though, was that the Fury Tide Kingdom also agreed to send representatives to participate.
This was truly astonishing.
The Dwarves and Orcs had fought against Laine, and despite having suffered losses, their nations still existed. But the original Tide Fury had been thoroughly defeated by the Laine People and expelled to the seas.
This was a hatred that stemmed from the destruction of their nation. Were the representatives from the Fury Tide Kingdom attending the conference in forgetfulness of their ancestry and setting aside their grudges, or were they preparing to take the opportunity to ruthlessly slit Laine’s throat?
No one knew, but everyone was quite anticipative.
Now, less than ten days remained before the international conference. According to past practice, the arrangements for such large festivals or events should have been well in place and even rehearsed several times by now.
However, Allen had just dragged his exhausted body back to the Imperial Capital of Laine and then collapsed into a deep sleep on the ground.
James Watson, temporarily acting as the Supreme Decree, couldn’t help but feel heartache at the sight of this weary child.
During this period, Allen had barely slept properly, sustaining severe injuries among the Orcs, barely exchanging them for peace, and then enduring constant difficulties among the Dwarves. Upon returning home, he had to take over his brother’s duties, traveling all around the nation to suppress revolts and stabilize the people’s hearts.
In a short amount of time, Allen had become emaciated and seemed to have aged twenty years.
If not for the strong power of the Holy Light sustaining him, Allen would have died suddenly.
Now, with ten days left until the conference required by the Lord of the Dawn, Allen was already struggling to hold on. His spirit rapidly declined as he slept, seemingly from overexertion, and his life force appeared to be exhausted.
James Watson sighed and performed Divine Arts to heal Allen, but Amberser’s voice came from beside him.
"Old man, the Holy Light isn’t of much use. Allen has recently overextended himself, and even his soul has been damaged," Amberser said.
James Watson turned his head, looking anxiously toward the Magic Mirror behind him, and said, "Please help him."
Amberser didn’t take advantage of the situation and rubbed his fingers together, a spray of fine light fell upon Allen’s body, which restored some color to his haggard face, and his weak breathing became a bit stronger.
"This move of mine is also just a temporary solution," Amberser warned. "Let him sleep for at least three days; otherwise, there will be permanent damage to his soul."
Worrying oneself to death was sometimes not an overstatement, but the most straightforward description.
Allen was indeed too tired lately, but his achievements were enough to make anyone proud. Dozens of revolts were suppressed, saving the lives of millions and helping the Laine Empire return to a state of stability.
If not for this necessity, Allen could not have returned to the Imperial Capital.
Now, it was time for him to rest for a few days.
James Watson moved Allen to the bed with a heavy heart. His position as the Supreme Decree left him without a single servant, and he could only rely on himself for everything.
Once Allen was soundly asleep, James Watson returned to the Magic Mirror and said to Amberser, "Are you sure you want to do this? The Deity has already made its decision, the imperial succession is bound to end, why do you insist on complicating matters?"
Amberser replied with a smile, "What, can’t accept it?"
James Watson said angrily, "The Laine has been around for a thousand years and, although it has made many mistakes, it has never erred in its fight against the dark. Eradicating the Undead is our sacred duty, how can we allow that Undead Queen to appear in the Imperial Capital, deciding the life and death of the Empire?"
Not long before, Amberser had unexpectedly appeared, demanding that Laine host a ceremony before the meeting of all nations, to let the queen from Gloomyland put an end to the imperial lineage of the Laine once and for all.
When James Watson heard this news, he was stunned, thinking this person had gone mad, wanting to insult Laine at such a time.
It was impossible to preserve the Imperial Family of Laine; the millennial grudge was too heavy, and no member of the Royal Family could bear it. Only by completely severing the bloodline of the Laine Royalty could the world be given an explanation.
But severing the lineage could be done by anyone, why should it be presided over by an Undead Queen?
And to do so right before the meeting of all nations, to announce before all Laine People the end of the Holy King’s lineage?
That would be an Undead!
Amberser, after listening to James Watson’s reasoning, couldn’t help laughing. "Do you Laine People still not understand why Rose became an Undead? Arthur Laine’s original plan was perfect. You already know why it failed, don’t you? It was all because of this damned, meaningless so-called glory.
"You obsess over the legacy left by the Holy King and go to all lengths to preserve Laine’s greatest glory, so for the sake of lineage, Laine Royalty committed heinous crimes. Do you feel humiliated by the presence of an Undead in the Laine Empire?
"Good! That’s what you deserve. If you Laine People still think you have any dignity or honor now, it means you have not truly repented. A true apology is to acknowledge one’s mistakes and accept the punishment you deserve, not to loudly protest, ’I’ve apologized, what more do you want?’"
Amberser’s words left James Watson flushed with anger, but he could find no words to refute them. As one of the few sober individuals within the Laine Empire, he was acutely aware of the seriousness of Laine’s mistakes.
That the Lord of the Dawn had not directly destroyed the nation was a testament to His leniency and magnanimity.
"But that’s not the reason you’re pushing the Undead Queen to the forefront, is it? I know you too well, you wouldn’t go to such lengths just for the sake of venting. Laine is on the brink and cannot withstand the slightest turmoil; I do not wish to see millions plunged into an even more desperate future.
"So, I beg you, tell me what you really want to do? Whatever it is, I will prepare with all my might, but please, spare Laine."
James Watson was on the verge of tears, almost ready to kneel before Amberser.
He was truly afraid, for every grand scene orchestrated by Amberser was catastrophic, and no one could guess his true intentions, nor who would have to bear the consequences in the end.
Amberser looked at James Watson’s state and felt nothing.
If only you had known this day would come, why did it ever begin?
But James Watson was really overthinking it.
Amberser was not doing this for any advantage, but simply wished to let Withered Rose fulfill her once cherished wish.
This was her place of growth, as well as the root of her misfortunes.
Only by returning here to personally put an end to her calamities might Withered Rose be able to truly take control of her future again.
