Chapter 627: Chapter 555: The Most Dangerous Enemy

Magic is such a good thing that most people who master it tend to look down upon sword-wielding a little.

The nobility of a Magus can be seen merely from the title.

Perhaps this Cambion never thought in his life that his magic would be so easily blocked; even a scroll of the antimagic domain wouldn’t be able to cover such a large area, right?

But the Whispering Tree is not an antimagic domain; on the contrary, it is the feature of the Whispering Tree that mages imitated to create the "magic" known as the antimagic domain.

Wherever the roots of the Whispering Tree spread, no one below the Deity could invoke any magic power, and that included Amberser.

Therefore, before the battle began, Amberser had already hidden to one side.

The Devil Cavalry led by Melina was fully armored; Hell Incubi were fast and had a strong carrying capacity, but they were expensive and scarce in number.

But who told her she had a rich daddy?

Amberser certainly wasn’t stingy with Melina; all of her gear was top-notch.

In Hell, money could make the devils push the mill; nothing was unsellable, after all, their currency was souls.

Having no preparation for the heavy cavalry charge, the outcome was naturally unstoppable.

Melina tore open a gap, then led the cavalry through it. And then there was no "then."

War is that cruel, just a moment of inattention can result in a complete loss. Being suddenly subjected to a wide-range magic ban, such a mistake was fatal.

The Cambion was still shouting something, but Amberser could no longer hear him because Melina quickly rode her warhorse over him, chopping off the Cambion’s head with a sword.

The Flaming Longsword was a gift from Zariel, incredibly sharp, and with Melina neutralizing all of the Cambion’s magic power, this was no longer a fight but a one-sided crushing.

Amberser was not worried about Melina’s safety at all; unless an enemy of the Deity’s level appeared, no one in Hell could defeat Melina.

However, Amberser’s enemies were not limited to just this one.

Just after dealing with this group of devils, another aggressive batch arrived.

But this time, it wasn’t a devil army, but more like an elite combat squad, a dozen in number, all of them High-level Devils, including Ancestor Sickle Demons and all the rest, and they were coming from the direction of the Blood River – it was clear they were battle-hardened elites.

Seeing Melina reaping lives on the battlefield, these devils cleverly hid on the side, looking like they were seeking an advantage.

But they still gave themselves away because they were carrying Magic Mirrors.

The Magic Mirror’s off feature wasn’t literally powering down; even if they sealed the Magic Mirrors in Magic Pouches with magic, they still couldn’t escape Amberser’s perception.

Melina, receiving news from Amberser, immediately turned her head and led her troops to charge in that direction.

Although the opponent was prepared this time, and among them were two very powerful High-level Devils wielding greatswords taller than Melina, rushing toward her.

Melina’s magic ban was particularly effective against Mages but had only a standard effect on these tempered warriors.

However, Melina wasn’t alone.

Monica the Succubus led hundreds of Spellcasters onto the field; a full half of them raised the Magic Mirrors in their hands and targeted the location of the elite group, beginning to cast.

Spend-money-to-cast magic, no chanting, no preliminary motions, no magic power consumption required, you just need to aim for yourself.

A barrage of fireballs enveloped the sky, directly covering that area.

The saturated bombing directly confused the group of devils; although High-level Devils had strong fire resistance, they were not completely immune, and a round of bombardment reduced their numbers by two.

Then, Amberser seized the opportunity to ask for names. However, the leading devil, though equally enraged and hateful toward Amberser, revealed a name that meant nothing to him.

Amberser ran out of patience and directly ordered Melina’s army to press forward.

This elite squad was indeed formidable. Despite Melina’s advantage, they still managed a casualty ratio of forty to one, leaving Melina herself slightly injured and Monica the Succubus with both her right hand and tail chopped off.

Their strength was fierce, but they were still too foolish.

No matter how elite the squad, it couldn’t defeat the devils of an entire territory.

Either they had power without intelligence, or they had influence without intelligence. Amberser felt quite disappointed.

"Why are all the ones who come of this sort? Could it be that all my formidable enemies from the past are dead?"

The foes who used to keep him from sleeping soundly couldn’t all be dead, could they? They were all talented individuals; surely not all of them perished in Hell.

With no other choice, Amberser had Melina clean up the battlefield and left her with a special list.

The list contained over thirty names, all "enemies" whom Amberser remembered distinctly. Among them, three names were especially marked. Should any information related to these three emerge, it had to be reported immediately. If any devil resembling these three was spotted, there must be no conflict; she had to notify him at once.

Melina carefully examined the three names highlighted in red on the list.

Salvador, Brunos, and Parurier.

Curious, Melina asked, "Father, among your enemies, there are women too?"

Amongst those dozens of names, there was only one that seemed feminine, and it was one of the three highlighted names. This intrigued Melina immensely.

"This woman..." Amberser hesitated for a moment, as if searching for an appropriate adjective.

But in the end, Amberser could only gravely warn, "This woman is a true madwoman, more dangerous than any devil. Don’t take her lightly, Melina. If you’re sure it’s her you’ve seen, run immediately. Do not hesitate."

Melina looked incredulously at Amberser. It was the first time she had heard such a serious warning from her father. Was it really that dangerous?

Though not the sharpest, Melina was a well-behaved child and nodded quickly, saying, "Understood, Father. I’ll report to you at once. I won’t confront this woman."

Amberser nodded and then disappeared into the mirror.

Meanwhile, in the Iron Fortress on the Second Layer of Hell, a gaunt cambion toiled away amidst mountains of documents.

This cambion might have seemed ordinary, but he reviewed all the most vital intelligence of the Second Layer of Hell and was the most trusted clerk of Duke Disparte, its ruler. To the other devils of the Second Layer, he was referred to with respect as "Him," for the clerk had reached the realm of a Deity and had the title of Duke in his own right.

However, this clerk, like his master Disparte, shared a preference for staying indoors and was introverted. He seldom made public appearances, and thus very few devils knew His name. They typically referred to Him simply as "the Esteemed Clerk."

Now, the clerk diligently sorted through the papers on his desk, most of which were statistics from his subordinate devils, estimates regarding the circulation of Soul Currency in the Second Layer of Hell, and the impact of the Hell Bank on its economy.

These matters were intricate and entangled, making mere compilation extremely difficult. Unearthing the key insights from this complex data was no easy feat, and only this clerk had the skill and patience to accomplish the task within the Iron Fortress.

As He was absorbed in the documents, the light beside Him suddenly flickered.

The clerk abruptly raised his head and stared into a dark corner, his eyes emitting bursts of red light that revealed a figure lurking in the shadows.

A graceful Succubus emerged from the darkness, her face all charm and smiles. If not for the deep, bone-revealing wound on her right hand, one might assume she was the clerk’s concubine engaged in some thrilling game with Him.

The clerk said in shock, "Parurier! You’ve gone mad. Do you realize where you’ve infiltrated?!"

Parurier paid no mind to the wound on her arm, walked straight up to the desk, and with a flick of her tail, scattered all the neatly arranged documents onto the floor. She then leaned in close to the clerk’s ear and said, "Salvador, is this the time to discuss that? I really don’t understand how you can still be sitting here. That man has already sent us an invitation. Aren’t you going to accept it?"
