Chapter 618: Chapter 548: Melee at Blood River
The God of Alchemy had only become divine a few hundred years ago, and even though He had integrated the knowledge known as alchemy, He knew little about this ancient Hell technology.
However, as the concept of alchemy developed, more and more things that were originally not called alchemy began to be covered by this name.
The change in the meaning of the concept gave the God of Alchemy the ability to touch upon Hell technology.
Fortunately, Amberser had some connections on the Hell side and naturally wanted to help the God of Alchemy. Moreover, he was curious about what exactly the Hell Engine was.
It was said that even a mere mortal, once equipped with the highest-grade Hell Engine, might be able to inflict damage on Deities in the Blood War Battlefield.
Zariel hesitated for a moment when he found out what Amberser wanted and finally gave Amberser a flickering flame.
"Present this flame, and the quartermaster at Blood River Fortress will let you take away a batch of equipment. What you can make out of it is your own business."
Instead of giving the technology directly, Zariel allowed Amberser to decipher it himself, making Amberser exclaim that it was indeed devilish.
But that did not matter, as the God of Alchemy’s current power was sufficient to analyze any technology, Amberser just needed to obtain the physical item.
Zariel, full of concerns, and Amberser, puzzled, did not linger.
After becoming "alive" again, Amberser became more impatient, no longer as calm and indifferent as when he was a Lich, and was now eager to tear apart and reassemble those Hell Engines.
As Amberser disappeared into the mirror’s surface, Zariel waved his hand, and dozens of fierce flames sealed the Magic Mirror, ensuring the man could not spy through the mirror before Zariel conjured a special flame.
This was a dark red, fierce flame burning atop a crimson gemstone, the flame representing Zariel’s power while the gemstone was the manifestation of the first layer of Hell’s laws.
The gemstone was like a heart, emitting pulses that spread throughout the entire first layer of Hell. All the rules of Aphnas were controlled by this gemstone. Normally, this heart-shaped gem should pulse very slowly, but now it was violently shaking as if it had a heart disease.
This was the resonance from Hell, Hell’s Laws eager to punish those sinners descending into Hell in new ways.
Zariel, with a grim face, took the gemstone back deep underground, then transformed into a streak of fire and flew into Blood River Fortress.
Beneath the massive fortress were the howls of millions of demons, and from the sky, Blood River seemed divided by a spider’s web, with each section engaged in constant blood battles.
Zariel plunged into the battlefield, his sword transforming into a loud flame, sweeping across.
Each strike could raise a tsunami of molten lava, destroying everything in front of him.
Be it demons or devils, all would be annihilated before this Grand Duke of Hell.
Soon, the area in front of Zariel was cleared, with thousands of demons already dead by His hand.
But more demons surged from all directions, these creatures remorseless and fearless, even knowing they faced Zariel, yet they were still desperately brave.
This was the most terrifying aspect of demons; they outnumbered the devils significantly, driven solely by desires of destruction and slaughter.
But this frenzied killing attracted not only demons but also a huge devil.
This devil stood shoulder to shoulder with Zariel, bald and scar-faced with a mouth full of sharp teeth, appearing equally imposing. Just appearing, he spread his enormous bat wings behind him, pressing down the surging magma.
"Zariel, what madness is this?!"
The only ones who could speak to Zariel in such a tone in the entire first layer of hell were Goddess Tiamat and another Grand Duke of Hell, and this bald, scar-faced devil was none other than Bayer, the chief war commander of Blood River.
Zariel just glanced at Bayer, dismissively saying, "Want to be punished again?"
Bayer’s gaze hardened as he suppressed his fury, yet he dared not retort again.
Although he was the supreme commander of the Blood River Battlefield, he was ultimately just a subordinate of Zariel. If it weren’t for the Lord of Hell’s command to continue guarding Blood River Fortress, and if there hadn’t been a more outstanding commander in Hell than him, Bayer would likely have been dismembered by Zariel long ago.
But Bayer knew that Zariel still harbored hatred for him, especially since during Zariel’s imprisonment, Bayer had been exceedingly cruel to the fallen angel. Bayer had once sliced off pieces of Zariel’s body and swallowed them, attempting to seize the fallen angel’s power.
Unfortunately, the authority of Hell wasn’t so easily transferred, and in the end, Zariel regained power while Bayer endured tenfold the pain.
But Bayer’s unique expertise saved his life; Blood River Fortress still needed him in charge, and he ultimately survived, only to be eternally sealed within the Blood River Battlefield, forbidden from taking even a step outside.
Devils were far outnumbered by demons; it was only because of Bayer’s years of exhaustive command in battle that he could hold the Blood River Battlefield.
In recent years, Zariel had grown too lazy to quibble with Bayer anymore, except for the occasional inspection of the battlefield, and had not met Bayer for many years. Bayer wasn’t foolish—he knew Zariel hated him, so he usually did not appear before Zariel voluntarily.
But today, for some unknown reason, Zariel went mad and abruptly leapt into the battlefield, wreaking havoc, completely disrupting Bayer’s arrangements.
Bayer exclaimed agitatedly, "I don’t know what you want to do, but you’ve ruined my setup! You have no idea what the consequences will be!"
Sometimes, it wasn’t necessarily advantageous to kill more enemies on the battlefield. Zariel’s recent rampage had indeed eliminated many demons, but what Bayer had set up here was a complete line of defense, which Zariel had disrupted with a single strike.
The deceased demons had originally acted like corks blocking their troops’ charges, but now Zariel’s strike had opened up the pathway for the demons’ charge.
Once Zariel withdrew, a huge gap would appear on the outer line of defense. Once demons poured in from this gap, other directions of the devil coalition would face attacks from both front and rear.
Even if this did not significantly affect the entire battlefield, Bayer did not want to lose troops for nothing.
Demons were endless, but there weren’t that many devils in Hell who could take to the battlefield.
Zariel disdainfully said, "That’s your problem to consider."
After speaking, Zariel swung his sword again, turning the surging demon army into ashes.
Yet the demons continued to pour in, gathering like swarms of ants.
Although Bayer was furious, he was powerless. Rank trumps all; Zariel held the authority of Hell, and Bayer could not fight against that authority.
Seeing the lines already disrupted, Bayer had no choice but to summon a large number of elite troops, trying to repair the frontline.
Zariel, however, didn’t care at all and charged directly into the enemy lines, stirring up waves of molten lava among the waves of demons.
Not until the battlefield turned into a mountain of corpses and a sea of blood did the demon onslaught suddenly pause. The demons that originally swarmed like ants seemed to be pulled by something and began to converge towards a point in midair.
Flesh twisted and tendons snapped; the demons were kneaded by an invisible hand into a massive ball of flesh.
Subsequently, this flesh ball was torn apart, and from within leapt a blood-drenched two-headed baboon!
Distinct roars issued from both of the baboon’s mouths, causing Bayer to instinctively cover his ears, while his elite soldiers were knocked down in droves by the sound.
Demon Prince Dimogorgen!
The most infamous monster from The Abyss had appeared at this moment!
Although it was just a manifestation created from the flesh of demons, the terrifying power it possessed was still not something mortals could withstand.
Bayer looked at Zariel in shock. Had this madman appeared on the battlefield just to draw out Dimogorgen’s manifestation?!
