Chapter 594: Chapter 528: The Overlapping State of the Soul_2
The God of Alchemy, following Amberser’s plan, took action after he fell into Hell, waiting for the moment when the Hell Lords couldn’t resist seeking help everywhere, and also leaked information about the God of Alchemy’s past.
Devils always like to assume the worst in every action, no need to exaggerate, they would think along those lines anyway.
Amberser didn’t expect this reason to be very precise, just barely plausible was enough for them to accept it. Because, they had really lost a lot, and couldn’t afford to lose anymore.
For gamblers who had bet everything they owned, along with a seemingly reasonable excuse, there was simply no room to back down.
Everything went just as Amberser envisioned, and upon hearing about the God of Alchemy and Amberser’s past, Zariel’s suspicion dissipated significantly, or perhaps she convinced herself, at least for now, she decided to try the machine.
Mammon also expressed his agreement, since there was no choice left anyway.
As for Goddess Tiamat, the Evil Dragon Goddess had been busy with something recently and hadn’t been seen for many days. Unable to contact her for the time being, Zariel, seeing that Amberser’s soul was about to dissipate, finally couldn’t sit still and stuffed the broken soul into the alchemy furnace.
After swallowing Amberser’s fragmented soul, the alchemy furnace began to roar, and then lines of text appeared on the furnace’s display.
"Soul integrity at thirteen percent, please insert souls as repair material."
Zariel and Mammon were both stunned when they saw this message.
This is it, isn’t it a trap?
Just a moment’s hesitation, and the soul integrity dropped to ten percent, the machine prompting again to quickly insert repair materials.
With gritted teeth, Zariel said, "I’m betting on it, there’s no turning back now!"
A large handful of Soul Currency was stuffed into the alchemy furnace, but the prompt remained, forcing Zariel to keep inserting more Soul Currency.
One hundred, two hundred, three thousand, fifty thousand... as the input of Soul Currency approached a million, Zariel’s eyes had turned red, Mammon couldn’t hold him back, and was even forced to throw in several hundred thousand Soul Currency himself.
Mammon now realized he had really been duped; this wasn’t a machine for repairing souls at all, clearly it was a money-swallowing machine meant for the God of Alchemy to take revenge on his students!
Just as Mammon wanted to persuade Zariel to back down and accept the loss, the machine finally emitted a harsh roar, and the content on the outer display changed.
"Repair materials are sufficient, soul repair program initiated!"
Zariel and Mammon had been so angry they wanted to smash the alchemy furnace, but upon seeing this message they immediately forced themselves to calm down. Having come this far, regardless of win or loss, they had to see an outcome!
The alchemy furnace shook violently as if it was going to explode the next second, making the two Grand Dukes of Hell’s hearts race. They truly had to be careful as their hearts thumped wildly.
The alchemy furnace operated for a full day, eventually hovering on the edge of exploding, but it didn’t turn into a pile of fragments.
As the sentence "Soul completion reached one hundred percent" appeared, the alchemy furnace finally reopened after spewing out a large amount of smoke.
A blurry figure appeared within the core of the furnace, and Amberser’s seemingly venomous voice came from inside.
"Both of you, long time no see."
The blurry figure waved a greeting to the two red-eyed Dukes of Hell.
Zariel roared, "I will make you suffer all the tortures of Hell before I let you begin your work. Brace yourself, damned Lich, you could not repay me even in ten thousand years!"
Mammon sneered. The Lich, known as the Deceiver, was only so much. Once a complete soul fell into the hands of a Devil, its fate was sealed. It would become a toy and a minting machine for the Devil, enduring torment for eternity.
However, when Zariel reached into the ether to grasp Amberser’s soul, he felt something was not right. The thing he touched felt hard; what was it?
When the item at the core of the furnace was pulled out by Zariel, both Dukes of Hell were shocked to find that it was not a restored soul at all, but a Magic Mirror.
It was the Magic Mirror invented by the God of Alchemy, capable of long-distance communication across Planes.
Just then, Amberser’s figure appeared on the surface of the mirror, the black-haired, black-eyed young man looking vividly alive, even winking at the two Dukes of Hell.
Zariel exclaimed in shock, "Damn Lich, what have you done?!"
The Amberser in the mirror replied with a smile, "Nothing much, just took a cue from my old friend Arthur Lane and transformed myself into a Heroic Spirit attached to a Divine Artifact."
Mammon said mockingly in a sinister tone, "Heroic Spirit? You seem more like an evil spirit trapped inside a mirror to me."
Amberser responded nonchalantly, "It’s all the same. I am a soul that exists attached to a Divine Artifact, and for an Undead, changing bodies isn’t strange, is it?"
Zariel did not speak further, but reached out to grab the surface of the mirror.
No matter what form this Lich’s soul had taken, as long as the contract was not dissolved, Zariel was still his creditor and could grab his soul out to torment it anytime he wished!
Zariel vowed to make the Lich suffer to his heart’s content.
However, as Zariel’s hand plunged into the mirror, it was like trying to grasp the moon reflected in the water. He merely shattered Amberser’s reflection but caught nothing.
"How is this possible! You cannot defy the laws of Hell; as a sinner who fell into Hell, you cannot escape!"
Zariel was shocked. Amberser’s soul was right before his eyes, so why couldn’t he grasp it?
Divine Artifacts with Instrument Spirits were not unusual; Zariel was no stranger to them. Wherever the main body was, the Heroic Spirit would be, and finding a way to separate them was the solution. Even the former Arthur Lane, merged with the Time Dragon’s Artifact Hourglass, was still able to escape and fight people.
But Amberser seemed both present and absent, completely ungraspable.
Amberser looked at the two angry and shocked Dukes of Hell and explained calmly, "Of course, I couldn’t go against the laws of Hell. My soul is still in Hell... at least, part of it is. Perhaps you two Lords forgot, the Magic Mirror is part of a set of Divine Artifacts. Wherever the Magic Mirror is, that’s where my soul is.
"I am not only in Hell but also exist in each Magic Mirror. However, when you try to grab me, I am not in this single mirror. This is a special state of soul overlap. I had similar experiments back when I was studying how to hide the Life Casket, but it’s the first time I’ve done it with a soul."
"This is the boldest adventure in my half-life of research; thank the Goddess Aeo, it was a success."
Looking at the bewildered faces of the two Archdukes of the Devils, Amberser still smiled and said, "Don’t be like that, you just can’t catch me for punishment, that’s all. I didn’t say I would deny the previous contract.
"Just that, the terms might need a little tweak. How about it, would the two of you like to sit down and have a new talk?"
