Chapter 572: Chapter 509: Witnessed by All Gods, The Resurgence of the Dragon!
People of this generation in Laine, young or old, had only heard legends of Gareth and few had actually seen him with their own eyes.
Even Old William had met him face to face, but he was far too young at the time to comprehend Gareth’s strength.
In the words of Aige, the demigod of the Elegy Poetry Society, Gareth had transcended the mundane world; it was only his entrapment within a mortal shell that kept him from liberation.
Thus, Gareth slew dragons as if he were slaughtering chickens. His unreasonable strength terrified the Githyanki and their Red Dragons, who didn’t dare to confront him directly, resorting instead to exiling him and attempting to take Miss Bone Dragon hostage.
If it weren’t for Gareth’s obsession with Miss Bone Dragon’s allure, completely voiding his qualifications to vie for a Deity Position, even Ghoul Yugas wouldn’t dare to conjure such thoughts, for fear that Gareth could decapitate him before the Guild Leader could even react to save him.
This was the true value of the Pillar of Shame in Laine. The power of Gareth’s strike was comparable to the might of the Silvermoon Knight at his peak.
One strike strong enough to breach a fortress, nothing could withstand it.
Indeed, Holy Light does counter Dark Magic Power, but you can’t use a cup of water to extinguish a wildfire.
A slash imbued with the refined essence of Dark Magic Power cleaved through the Holy Light Iron Wall, intent on slicing Old William in two as well.
At this critical moment, a keen presence blinked into existence, a pure and somewhat transparent Holy Light appearing before the dark flames.
It was as if two glass blades had collided, both the Holy Light and the dark flames shattering simultaneously.
Yet instead of scattering shards, it was a violent explosion of energy, reminiscent of the Orc King’s long-prepared strike, blasting a deep crater into the ground.
The blast sent everything at its epicenter flying, and even Old William, the Shield of the Empire, was hurled away.
When everyone regained clarity of the battlefield, they saw a blood-soaked figure kneeling before Gareth, it was Allen.
It was Allen who had intervened to block Gareth’s strike, sparing Old William’s life.
The Eight-Legged Giant Horse that Gareth rode lightly kicked Allen away, and the Headless Knight spoke with disdain, "I told you, you need another thirty years of practice before you can fight me; why rush to your death now!"
As Gareth turned his horse around to approach Emperor Laine once more, the Laine people shivered anew.
This Headless Knight was too terrifying, not even the Shield of the Empire could withstand his strike, and it seemed as if he hadn’t yet exerted his full strength.
The Young Emperor also sensed something wrong. While he couldn’t understand why the Lich would arrange such an assassination, it seemed better to retreat for the time being.
"Lord Orwell, please activate the Teleportation Circle..." ordered the Young Emperor, preparing to use the Portable Teleportation Circle, only to find that there was no response from his side.
The Young Emperor turned to the Court Mage beside him and shouted, "Orwell! Did you hear what I said?"
The Teleportation Magic Circle had always been managed by the Court Mage nearby, as only a Mage could cast Teleportation Magic more quickly.
But at this time, that mature and steady Mage was slumped, his tongue hanging out of his mouth, reeking drool oozing continuously from his lips.
When the Young Emperor looked his way, the Court Mage, seemingly insane, lunged at him, mouth agape, attempting to bite the Emperor’s neck.
The Young Emperor kicked the mad Court Mage away, and as he got up again, everyone realized he had turned into a Zombie, continuously emitting a foul stench of Dark Magic Power.
The Emperor’s guards finally reacted, several beams of Holy Light fell upon him, the intense glow purifying everything, including his Magic Robe, which turned to ashes!
However, the Young Emperor roared in anger, "Damn it! The Portable Teleportation Array is still on him!"
These fools were already at the Legendary Realm, yet they panicked like stray dogs!
"There are more ambushes, everyone stay alert!"
He had seen such silent methods of turning the living into Undead before, they were the legendary abilities of the Undead Queen, a manipulation that turned living beings into Undead, unstoppable by any defense, impossible to resist, inescapable, leaving only death in its wake.
Even a Legendary Rank Mage had been transformed unnoticed, his magical defenses and artifacts offering no response.
The Undead Queen was seemingly an entity crafted to counteract Laine, for no one alive could escape this undead corruption.
But Gareth wasn’t giving them the chance. His Eight-Legged Giant Horse charged once more, and the Orc King brandishing his twin axes drove back two Paladins, rushing towards Emperor Laine.
This time, it seemed there would be no one to shield the Young Emperor.
As he faced imminent death, the young Emperor of Laine sighed and touched his forehead.
Upon his head rested a silver-white crown that appeared to be merely a symbol of the Royal Family of Ryan, yet when he touched it, a massive power surged forth, infusing into his body.
The young Emperor stepped toward the onrushing foes.
The moment his toe touched the ground, ripples emanated outward.
Gareth and the Orc King, in their swift charge, appeared to be frozen in time. Silence fell upon the world as the airborne mud and dust were suspended mid-air.
Two seconds passed and everything began rapidly reversing.
Gareth and the Orc King returned to their positions before the charge; scattered Magic Power was reabsorbed, and all interacting forces started to invert.
Time reversed, winding back from the moment the Laine people were in dire straits.
Bloodied Allen returned to the moment he leaped to block Gareth’s strike, and then back to the Young Emperor’s side under his watchful eye. Old William’s Holy Light Iron Wall reformed from its shattered state, then reverted back into Holy Light within him.
The overturned soil on the ground was covered once more, the Orc King leaped again, and the blinding red glow reappeared on his axes... Everything was moving backward, even the thunder in the sky was recalled by some force.
Until the shattered villa was restored and the brilliant fireworks display returned to the beginning.
Emperor of Laine still sat in his room, holding a copy of "Prophet Mage Introduction" in his hand.
Time had retreated to this point and finally began to flow again.
As the first sound of fireworks exploding came from outside the window, the Young Emperor closed the book and quickly stepped outside the door.
Old William and Allen still dutifully guarded his door. Seeing the Emperor suddenly appear, they were both very surprised.
Old William hastily asked, "Your Majesty, is there something wrong?"
The Young Emperor did not answer the question but instead ordered, "Have Lord Orwell immediately activate the teleportation circle, this is a trap! The Lich has been lying in ambush for a long time, intending to kill me!"
Old William, with a puzzled face, thought to himself that nothing had happened as they had just arrived at the island.
Could it be that the Emperor had discovered something in his room?
But that was not right either; they had already checked the inside and outside of the villa.
Old William, still in doubt, said, "Your Majesty, could you be overanxious?"
If they ran off suddenly, it probably wouldn’t be a good thing for the Laine Empire. Losing face is a minor issue, but angering other kingdoms and giving them an excuse to unite against Laine would be a problem.
About to persuade him further, Old William suddenly looked as if he had seen something terrifying—it turned out the Young Emperor had shown him everything that just happened through his memories.
The Emperor commanded, "That is the future you just experienced. I have reversed time, but I can still show you everything that happened. Trust me, we need to leave now!"
Old William appeared to have taken several seconds to accept everything he had just seen and couldn’t help asking, "Your Majesty, is all this real?!"
The Young Emperor quickly explained, "Of course it’s real. I am not skilled at creating illusions; I simply gave back to you the memories you should have experienced."
Old William took a deep breath and continued to ask, "Your Majesty, is this also the power of the Magic Dragon Armament? But in the historical records of Laine, the Magic Dragon Armament doesn’t seem to have such precise control, does it?"
The Young Emperor became a bit impatient—this old man, with his mediocre abilities, was still wasting time at this critical moment?
"That’s something I figured out myself. This divine artifact has been sealed for too long. No one had thoroughly studied its functions before. Hurry up, Lord Garrison, we need to leave this small island right now."
The Young Emperor’s urging did not prompt Old William to take any action. Instead, the most prestigious old general of the Empire heaved a heavy sigh and said, "Your Majesty, is all that you’ve said true? Is this really just the power of the Magic Dragon Armament?"
The Young Emperor finally lost patience and angrily said, "William Garrison, what are you talking about? Obey my command and retreat now; this is not the time to discuss this."
After saying this, the Young Emperor turned to Allen and said, "Allen, I trust your loyalty, now take me away from here immediately!"
Allen had fought to the brink of death against the Headless Knight and had been seriously injured. That could not be faked. Had Allen’s skills been slightly lacking, he would have been cleaved to death by Gareth.
Although he did not understand why the Lich would arrange such a crude assassination, it was clear that Allen was not one of the Lich’s people.
Even though he had not yet encountered the detestable Arthur Laine, it was no longer feasible to stay on the island today. Let the Lich dare to ruin his own reputation with such acts, and wait for him to use this against Laine.
Having lost credibility, the Lich could forget about doing business!
The crude methods of Amberser left the Young Emperor’s mind in disarray, totally unexpected, but leaving now was certainly the right move.
However, after saying so much, the Young Emperor realized that Allen and Old William were still unmoved and were staring at him intently.
"What are you doing...? Idiots, fools, didn’t you hear what I said?!"
The Young Emperor could no longer contain his rage, but in response, he only received a heavy statement from Old William, "Your Majesty, after you were defeated, did you also use this method to amend my memory?"
The Young Emperor was stunned for a moment. Why would this old man bring up such a thing at this time?
Something was wrong!
He was about to flee on his own, but as he turned, he saw Old William appear before him as if by blinking.
"Your Majesty, answer me, is this truly only the power of the Magic Dragon Armament?" Old William firmly grasped the Young Emperor’s hands, suppressing his anger as he asked, "Are you really Price Laine? Or should I call you... the Magic Dragon Tyrant?!"
"Of course not, what are you talking about?!"
The Young Emperor struggled to break free from Old William’s grip, and in that instant, time was once again frozen.
The Young Emperor had activated the Power of Time again, but this time, the frozen time did not recede, instead shattering like a spider’s web.
Everything before his eyes fragmented like a broken mirror, and when the Young Emperor closed and opened his eyes again, he found himself in the middle of a colossal arena.
Above him were eternal thunders, along with numerous colossal silhouettes towering over the Mortal Realm, as if all the Gods were casting their gaze upon it, and the arena was surrounded by a densely packed audience.
Whether mortals or Deity, everyone was staring at him, as if he were the only protagonist.
"Is this... an Illusion Realm? When did this happen?"
The Young Emperor looked around in shock, because he saw the people of Laine in the audience—those he had brought with him were all sitting there, looking at him with incredulous eyes.
Then, the Lich’s voice came from the sky.
"Everyone sees the glow of the ring on his hand. He just lied in the realm of dreams. Witnessed by the Gods, the Magic Dragon Tyrant of the past has revived!"
