Chapter 541: Chapter 484 The Gods Are Watching You
Amberser reported to the God of Alchemy about his decision to unleash Benboerba and Baboerben, two Koutoa Murlocs. He summarized, "I originally just wanted to put a little pressure on the Koutao Mermaid Goddess and weaken her divine power."
"Then you have been extremely successful. The Koutoa Murlocs should be rebelling on a large scale," was the response.
The God of Alchemy fiddled with the bone whistle that Amberser had given him; even He hadn’t anticipated such a pronounced effect from a small whistle. In dealing with the Mentally Ill Goddess, the God of Alchemy had also been busy, constantly looking for ways to gather intelligence.
That’s why He was the first to learn about the disturbances in the Water Elemental Plane. The Koutao Mermaid Goddess must be going mad, leading to much dissatisfaction amongst the Ocean Deity Faction. They had not been fond of this Mentally Ill Goddess to begin with, merely tolerating Her presence. Now, however, even the Gods of the Ocean Deity Faction were no longer willing to ally with this mad deity.
After giving it some thought, Amberser said, "I reckon there are two reasons. The first is that the bone whistle spreads influence through sound and can affect a vast number of Koutoa Murlocs at once. The second reason is that the Goddess, thinking herself clever, had previously controlled a large number of Koutoa Murlocs to convey twisted beliefs to Aige."
The primary reason was the second point.
Amberser didn’t know how many Koutoa Murlocs the Mentally Ill Goddess had initially used to transmit beliefs, but it was surely a very high proportion.
This meant that a great number of Koutoa Murlocs received Aige’s reversed divine messages, planting the concept of freedom deep within their souls. Thus, these freedom-seeking Murlocs would immediately betray the Mentally Ill Goddess upon regaining their sanity.
If it weren’t for this act of self-destruction, at worst, a large number of the Koutoa Murlocs would have ended up as depressives, which might have even strengthened the divine position of spiritual madness of the Mentally Ill Goddess.
The God of Alchemy couldn’t help but comment on the irony: "Fate’s design is indeed mysterious; it seems that we can hasten our plans."
"We can take action now?" asked Amberser, surprised.
Fiddling with the bone whistle in his hand, the God of Alchemy said, "With this, we’re nearly ready."
Then the deity took up the crystal hammer and tapped the bone whistle a few times. Without adding any other materials, the insignificant whistle rapidly transformed into a sparkling, transparent flute.
"Teacher, your hammer..."
Amberser suddenly felt that something was amiss; the God of Alchemy’s method of transformation seemed beyond his understanding of alchemy.
The God of Alchemy proudly stated, "Quite perceptive, aren’t you? As you have recently increased your profile, the influence of alchemy has also grown, and naturally, my power has increased as well. This is a new Divine Artifact that I have created. Anything I strike will be reshaped according to my will and will generate corresponding alchemical knowledge to inspire those geniuses."
In essence, He was no different from the Magic Goddess and the Lord of Knowledge, except that these two had concepts too vast for the God of Alchemy to compare with.
But Concept Gods possess similar abilities, namely to inhibit or unlock the development of their correspondent concepts.
The Magic Goddess can limit the highest magic that spellcasters can cast; any newly created magic needs to be approved by the Magic Goddess before it can come into being.
Theoretically, the Lord of Knowledge governs the genesis of any kind of creativity, be it art or craft. He could turn a mediocre person into a genius writer or cause a famed author to suddenly lose all talent and never produce any work again.
After the God of Alchemy shaped the bone whistle, the principles behind its creation would become part of alchemy, waiting for some genius to comprehend.
Such is the virtuous cycle of a Concept God. As long as these alchemical principles don’t destroy the world, they will eventually enable the God of Alchemy to become part of the ranks of those with strong divine powers.
"I have enhanced the effect of this whistle. If the Koutao Mermaid Goddess really emerged from the Murlocs’ fantasies as we suspect, then this artifact should be effective against Her. Taking advantage of Her current weakened state, we might be able to lure Her out of Her divine realm."
Amberser hastily said, "Then I will immediately contact Hell to prepare Goddess Tiamat and Zariel."
However, the God of Alchemy replied, "You just attend to your own matters; I can handle this side of things. Be careful yourself; if it’s the original Magic Dragon, it will be more dangerous than the Koutao Mermaid Goddess."
"Please rest assured, teacher. I have never underestimated any opponent."
As soon as Amberser heard about the revival of the Magic Dragon Tyrant, he set aside his beloved ledgers and spent all day contemplating how to deal with the problem.
The God of Alchemy said, "That’s good. Just remember, if you truly encounter a problem you can’t solve, tell me. I can at least ensure you survive."
Not much needed to be said about gratitude between master and apprentice, and the conversation ended rather quickly.
Just as the communication was wrapping up, a woman dressed in a gold, luxurious dress appeared beside the God of Alchemy.
This lady’s appearance wasn’t considered beautiful and stunning, but she had a regal and luxurious aura of wealth.
She had a head of bright golden hair and her eyes were like two melting orbs of gold. She wore a robe adorned with various gemstones and precious metal sequins, donned a cloak strung with Gold Coins, had a belt made of gold around her waist, and wore golden boots studded with large pearls.
This outfit could be said to perfectly embody the term "wealthy matron."
For she was the Goddess of Wealth, Wojin.
Wojin said to the God of Alchemy with a smile, "You really dote on this mortal, don’t you? This has gone beyond the relationship between a deity and a devotee."
The God of Alchemy put down the hammer in his hand, turned his head, and said, "My relationship with him is complicated; I can’t explain it in a few words. But I believe if our positions were reversed, he would do about the same."
Wojin sighed and said, "I envy you. If I had such a trustworthy devotee back then, perhaps I wouldn’t have suffered so much."
She had once been held captive by the Dark Overlord Graz’zt in the Endless Abyss, tortured to the point of being weaker than a mortal. Had she not been lucky to escape from The Abyss, she might have perished.
The God of Alchemy wasn’t Wojin’s savior, but after she escaped from The Abyss, he was the first to lend her a hand. He not only provided his own divine realm as a sanctuary for Wojin but also helped her reclaim her lost powers.
Yet the torture Wojin endured was so profound that she had to slip into a deep slumber for a long time.
Because Wojin could not awaken, merchants hadn’t received her blessings in years, and commerce in the entire Prime Material Plane had come to a standstill.
Until recently, when Amberser began to walk the path of a capitalist.
The changes this Lich brought completely revolutionized the traditional business model, bringing a whirlwind of impact to the world.
Consequently, Wojin awoke from her slumber and could be said to have fully regained her former strength.
However, since Wojin was originally a deity of Weak Divine Power and to ensure that her enemies did not find her, she did not leave the God of Alchemy’s Divine Realm but chose to deepen her cooperation with him instead.
Hearing Wojin praise his protege, the God of Alchemy was also very pleased, humbly replying, "My most outstanding student, but not much talent in alchemy. Instead, he made remarkable contributions in the field of commerce. This business is the one you profited from."
Wojin laughed and said, "You’re right. If you hadn’t stopped me, I would have been eager to meet him too. I heard you want to recommend him to be my Chosen of God, but why won’t you let me meet him?"
The God of Alchemy shook his head and said, "I know my student well. If he had to choose between serving the Magic Goddess and the Goddess of Wealth, he would not hesitate to pick you. But it’s not up to me. Many other deities are watching my student. He shines too brightly, and every move he makes is under the scrutiny of all gods."
Wojin said regretfully, "I get it, my power is too weak, I don’t even have the ability to protect myself."
The identity of this Lich was too important, having become one of the main characters of this plane. If Wojin were to step forward and claim him as her Chosen now, it would be tantamount to offending all the deities who had their eyes on Amberser.
Deities like Talos could afford to be indifferent, but Wojin had to seriously consider this impact. If Talos became displeased, should Wojin protect this Chosen or not?
And there were more than just Talos eyeing Amberser. Not counting Shael and Rose, the two goddesses punished by Aeo, there was also Rowetta, Goddess Tiamat, Zariel, and many others who were closely related to Amberser.
Now this Lich was also involved in the wager between the Dragon Pantheon and the Lord of the Dawn. Never before had a mortal attracted the gaze of so many deities; Wojin was too weak, too weak even to have the right to bestow blessings.
"Don’t worry, my friend. What my student is best at is helping others, especially deities. Wasn’t I once so weak that I couldn’t even maintain my own divine realm? But now I am moving towards becoming a powerful deity. You will too. Once the Hell Bank is established, you’ll break free from your past shackles and become a deity with Intermediate Divine Power."
"What we have to do is simple, just patiently wait. But my student has much more to consider. Let’s focus on how we can help him solve Talos’s wager."
Wojin nodded and said to the God of Alchemy, "Let me deal with Hell. I’m also looking forward to seeing what the establishment of the first Hell Bank will bring me."
The God of Alchemy said happily, "That would be great. I hate dealing with devils the most. I’m just someone who studies alchemy and am not good at bargaining."
Wojin gave a slight smile, her body began to morph, completely taking on the appearance of the God of Alchemy. She then took from the God of Alchemy a Magic Mirror that could directly communicate with the Hell Lords.
If it wasn’t yet appropriate to come forward, then she would assume the identity of the God of Alchemy to interact with the devils.
It had been many years since she’d negotiated with anyone, and to think that her first negotiation partner would be an Archduke of the Devils was thrilling for Wojin.
