Chapter 540: Chapter 483: Pre-Conference Foreplay_3
"Well, that’s troublesome. I’ve lost Arthur Laine, a formidable ally, and even delivered a Divine Artifact to the Magic Dragon."
So, without hesitation, Amberser contacted his own teacher.
The God of Alchemy was still in the same state, sitting in front of his lab table, hammering away at a crystalline structure with a crystal-constructed hammer, performing operations Amberser couldn’t understand at all. When faced with his student’s call, he didn’t even raise his head as he said, "I hope you’re not calling to tell me you’ve offended another Deity."
Last time, Amberser managed to scare the God of Alchemy badly by provoking Talos.
It was quite impressive that he had reached Intermediate Divine Power a few hundred years after his Deification, but this student was truly a troublemaker—The Rose Spider Queen, the Evil Dragon Goddess, the Lord of the Storm... each one an entity he could not afford to provoke. The God of Alchemy truly feared that one day Amberser would suddenly say, "Teacher, this time it’s Aeo."
In that case, the God of Alchemy would rather fall into Hell and suffer—might as well quit being a Deity altogether.
Amberser had no choice but to reassure him, "Don’t be so tense, Teacher. I’m not some Devil who goes around causing trouble with the Gods every day."
"Heh heh."
The God of Alchemy’s laugh was full of sarcasm.
After carefully placing the crystalline hammer on the table, the God of Alchemy finally said to Amberser, "I know what kind of person you are. You’re definitely not seeking me out for anything good. Spit it out."
"Don’t worry, I’m not asking you to help me fight any Deities; it’s just a little matter in the Mortal Realm..."
Amberser briefly reported to the God of Alchemy about the resurrection of the Magic Dragon and the incident with the Magical Hourglass, and then said, "I just wanted to ask if there’s any way to cut off the connection between this Divine Artifact and the Magic Dragon. Of course, the best outcome would be if I could use this artifact to indirectly kill the Magic Dragon."
The God of Alchemy frowned after listening. Although it was indeed unrelated to the Deities, the Magic Dragon Tyrant was not a character easy to deal with.
"Are you sure the Magic Dragon has been resurrected? How come I haven’t heard any ruckus from the Lord of the Dawn and the Dragon Pantheon?"
"Teacher, you know about this bet? Do you have any inside info?"
"I don’t know more than you. I just can’t intervene in this matter. Haven’t you noticed? Even the Devils from Hell haven’t taken this opportunity to cause trouble. After so many years without major chaos in Laine, do you really think it’s all because of their devout faith?"
Amberser nodded. He had also guessed as much.
Under normal circumstances, with how extreme Laine had been for years, many Paladins should have descended to Hell, but there had been no large-scale mobilization of Devils to tempt and corrupt Paladins.
It seems that the clout of the Lord of the Dawn and the Dragon Pantheon was significant enough that even Devils had to show some respect.
"So you can’t help either, Teacher?" Amberser asked.
"I can’t personally assist you, no; I have no business getting involved in this gamble. But let me give you a hint. Didn’t you make a set of Mecha for Arthur Laine? You used the Legendary ability I bestowed upon you to turn the Mecha into material akin to that of a Divine Artifact. How did that turn out?"
Amberser thought for a moment, then said, "Not too well. Forcing it together like that only led to damage to the Divine Artifact and operational issues... oh, I see what you mean now."
The God of Alchemy nodded. He liked this about his student—the cleverness to grasp things immediately.
"Divine Artifacts were created to utilize their corresponding powers conveniently and efficiently. Otherwise, the Time Dragon would not need an Hourglass to maintain everlasting life. The simplest way to destroy a Divine Artifact is to make it more troublesome to use than casting Magic oneself."
Amberser laughed and said, "May the Goddess of Fate bless me, I actually prepared a bunch of spare parts when I was doing that modification experiment."
It might be hard to sever the connection between the Divine Artifact and the Magic Dragon, but the more spare parts that are added, the harder the Artifact will be to operate, providing another way to deal with the problem.
Well, I hope Arthur Laine doesn’t mind becoming a ten-meter-tall giant Mecha.
When the Magic Dragon Tyrant tries to summon his Divine Artifact, Arthur Laine will drop from the sky and crush him underfoot. Now that would be quite a spectacle.
Just as the God of Alchemy was about to go about his own business, he spoke again to Amberser, "Lately, have you done something to the Koutao Mermaid Goddess? I’ve heard some news from the Water Elemental Plane; that Mentally Ill Goddess seems a bit off."
Amberser replied in surprise, "It worked that quickly? It’s only been a few days."
