Chapter 499: Chapter 460 Encounter an Ambush
Airel stared at the Life Casket, lost in thought.
No way, a Lich entrusts her Life Casket to me for safekeeping?
"Master Ultraman, this is the Life Casket!"
A Lich’s Life Casket is even more important than her Soul; it’s not simply an object for rebirth. The Life Casket has a strong connection to the soul. If it falls into the hands of a knowledgeable Necromancer, they could control the Lich by mastering her Life Casket.
Although Airel didn’t have the ability to do so, the Life Casket was extremely precious. How could the Lich be willing to part with it?
Does she trust me that much?
At that moment, Airel felt nothing but shock.
"No, no, no, Master Ultraman, you should take the Life Casket back."
Airel only felt that holding the item was like holding a hot potato. What if she accidentally dropped it? Would the Lich die on the spot?
"Your Royal Highness, please accept it. Just now, you protected me without any hesitation. I must repay that trust. As for my earlier suggestion, it’s really a simple matter of probability.
"Now that we’re in a safe zone, you hold onto my Life Casket and let me take the risk. If I guess wrong, I can be reborn through the Life Casket. But if I were to stay here and let you take the risk, what if I guess wrong then? Can you be reborn with a Life Casket?"
The logic was undeniable, and Airel, unable to refute it, could only let Amberser take the risk himself.
Amberser turned and moved toward the depths of the maze. To save money, he even switched his seafloor Mecha for the cheapest skeleton body, reasoning that even if it were destroyed in an attack, it wouldn’t be a loss.
After strengthening his Mage Shield, Amberser quickly swam forward.
Navigating through the complex submarine passages, Amberser soon arrived at the spot where the Undead had been attacked. He stayed fully alert, waiting for the dark assailant to emerge.
Whether it be tentacles, a gaping maw bristling with sharp teeth, or something even more bizarre, if any sea creature attacked him, Amberser was ready to withdraw immediately.
He just needed to prove that what they feared was Airel.
But to Amberser’s surprise, even after waiting for a long time, there was no sign of movement. Even as he moved deeper, the shadows in the dark kept retreating as if there was some virus on Amberser they were afraid of.
"Interesting, are they afraid of the Undead? ...No, that can’t be right; the weak ones were eaten by them just now, crunching them up, one after another. It’s not the Undead they fear; then what is it?"
Amberser was perplexed. Right now, he was nothing but a pile of bones, just ordinary objects after holding back his Dark Magic Power. What was there on him that could possibly strike fear into these massive sea beasts?
While Amberser was pondering this question, suddenly, he remembered something.
"Damn, if the sea beasts are scared of me, then Airel is in danger!"
The Princess must not come to harm!
Amberser turned and swam back toward Airel’s direction.
But with this turn, Amberser realized he could no longer find the way back.
"Has the terrain changed? Can these seabed rocks move?"
Amberser remembered that there should have been a winding passage to the right behind him. How did it turn into a straight road?
"No, it’s not that the terrain has changed. There’s something messing with my perception!"
Just as Amberser felt something was amiss, the light on his wristband went out again, signaling that Talos’s will had descended and was watching him.
Talos is casting His gaze upon me now?
But the Lord of the Storm said nothing, indicating that He knew some drama was about to unfold and was merely watching as a spectator.
"Perceptive confusion, memory interference..." Amberser shouted into the endless darkness, "Brivodoup, it’s quite shameless for a Goddess to scheme against a mere mortal like myself."
There was indeed a response from the darkness, a sharp, piercing voice that seemed to tear through the water and then stab into Amberser’s soul.
"Foolish braggart, you desecrate the goddess of our Kuotuo Murlocs! Today you shall die in wailing agony!"
Dozens of red lights lit up, and a barrage of spells hurtled toward Amberser.
So the Kuotuo Murlocs had laid an ambush here. But how did they know he would appear in this spot?
As Amberser tossed out the Dice of Destiny, turning the erratic spells into various buffs, he seriously pondered this critical question.
The Koutao Mermaid Goddess couldn’t possibly track him down so quietly; she was definitely not of Legendary Rank. No way a Lich, a Diviner Mage, or a Ranger, all highly sensitive professions, could be followed by Kuotuo Murlocs without being aware of it.
The only explanation was that Talos was up to something.
Perhaps the Lord of the Storm found the one-sided situation uninteresting and shared his location with Brivodoup hoping to see some exciting developments.
Feeling the Buff Magic settling on him, Amberser raised his right hand and spoke to Talos, "Great Lord of the Storm, is this a trial you have bestowed upon me?"
Electric light flickered in his palm, and Talos’s voice came through, "You Lich, might be too clever for your own good. Indeed, it was I who informed Brivodoup, allowing him to ambush you here. But rest assured, as with all trials, there shall be a reward. Strive to survive, little Skeleton."
Talos’s voice vanished, but Amberser’s bracelet did not light up, which indicated that Talos was still watching him.
Looking at the Kuotuo Murlocs closing in on him, Amberser shook his head helplessly.
As the Kuotuo Murloc warriors charged toward him, Amberser turned, and his skeletal frame transformed into a silvery-white Mecha.
This was a Deep Diver Mech, specifically designed for deep-sea combat.
Amberser’s hands shot out Magic-Breaking Blades as he took the initiative to meet the swarm of Kuotuo Murlocs.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to cast magic, but the Golden Throne consumed too much energy, and Amberser didn’t want to use it frivolously.
Without the effect of paid magic casting, Amberser’s spells would be significantly weakened underwater. Combined with the continuous and strange fluctuations disrupting his perception, it was more appropriate to fight as a Ranger.
The Deep Diver had speed that surpassed that of the Kuotuo Murlocs, the Mithril Mech had the required defensive strength, and the Magic-Breaking Blades allowed Amberser to easily slice through the bodies of these Kuotuo Murlocs.
Speed, defense, attack—all were superior to the Kuotuo Murlocs, so Amberser was effectively on an unstoppable rampage, leaving a bloody trail wherever he went. The Kuotuo Murloc warriors couldn’t even inflict a scratch on him before their bodies were cleaved open.
However, just as Amberser was gleefully reaping the lives of the Kuotuo Murlocs, his Mecha suddenly shook; his arm had unexpectedly collided with the sturdy rocks at the sea bottom.
"This isn’t right; why is there a wall here?"
Amberser had clearly been aiming for the head of a Kuotuo Murloc, but it had suddenly turned into a wall.
Once again, his perception had been disrupted, this time directly affecting his combat decisions.
In that brief gap, several Kuotuo Murloc warriors had already pounced on Amberser, desperately clinging to the limbs of his Mecha. They even crazily reached their hands into the jets of the Mecha, trying to completely immobilize Amberser’s movement.
For a moment, Amberser found himself unable to move as more and more Kuotuo Murlocs swarmed over to overwhelm him with sheer numbers.
Once the Mecha lost its mobility, even its sturdy frame would be dismantled piece by piece.
Just then, a Space Gate opened beside Amberser, and a Giant Shark burst forth from it.
With a single bite, the shark crushed the bodies of two Kuotuo Murlocs, freeing Amberser’s right arm.
Amberser quickly dispatched the other Murlocs clinging to him and then mounted the shark’s back.
A Ranger never fights alone; synergy with their beast companions is their strongest form.
Naomi transformed into a Giant Shark, boosting Amberser’s combat capabilities further, and soon he was once again in unstoppable form.
Although it appeared that Amberser held the upper hand, as if he alone was surrounding the enemy army, he was well aware of the major trouble he was in.
There was certainly a Kuotuo Murloc hidden in the shadows, repeatedly interfering with his perception.
The first two times were pure luck, but if it happened a few more times, Amberser knew he could indeed be overwhelmed by these Kuotuo Murlocs.
Therefore, he either had to find that concealed Kuotuo Murloc or leave this sea area as quickly as possible.
While considering his options, Amberser suddenly felt the shark that Naomi had become accelerate wildly towards a rock formation.
Naomi was less resistant to mental influences than him and was immediately affected.
Fortunately, Amberser quickly commanded Naomi to stop with telepathy. Even though she felt Murlocs viciously biting her tail, she endured the pain and stopped.
And as soon as she stopped, the pain she felt vanished.
Naomi nervously replied, "Master! I think I’ve been affected by an illusion!"
"Yes, there’s a very skilled Illusionist hiding in the shadows. It’s unfortunate that I didn’t bring many Undead Troops with me this time."
Amberser had recently traded all the Undead he had created, and he didn’t have many left with him. Releasing the remaining few wouldn’t make much of a difference.
"I will cast Revenge Storm momentarily, and then let’s take the opportunity to leave this place!"
The once-a-day free Ninth Circle Spell shouldn’t be wasted. That Illusionist likes hiding, does he? Revenge Storm is enough to cover the whole battlefield, so we’ll see how lucky he is.
But just as Amberser raised his right hand to cast the Ninth Circle Spell granted to him by Talos, a Lightning burst suddenly exploded underwater.
The wild Magic Power, as if alive, leapt repeatedly among the Murlocs.
"Chain Lightning? In the sea, it can jump more than a dozen times?"
Amberser was shocked. Although using the spell in water could cover a larger area, seawater would interfere with the direction of the Lightning, and normally Chain Lightning could only jump between three targets. Being able to accurately leap once underwater was already impressive, but now Amberser saw seventeen Kuotuo Murlocs struck by Lightning, instantly cooked through.
In the darkness, Airel appeared, woven in electric light.
At that moment, she was like a Deity descended, her fiery red hair now turned silver-white, even her eyes covered by the Thunder.
