Chapter 475: Chapter 441: The World of Rising Winds and Scudding Clouds_3
The battle plan couldn’t possibly be fully disclosed to all soldiers, so many orcs believed they really had lost when they pretended to flee at the beginning. With that, their formation broke, and spirits were shattered.
Non-elite troops can’t feign defeat, as often a retreat would turn into a real rout.
Since when did the orcs have such a disciplined elite force? It totally contradicts their nature.
But the fact was undeniable, and the Laine People could only fight a bloody battle, barely breaking out after losing the lives of thousands of Paladins.
It was all thanks to the near berserk bravery of the Paladins, each fighting fearlessly, carving a path with Holy Slash.
After this battle, the Laine People realized the ferocity of the orcs and had no choice but to contract their forces into major cities, awaiting reinforcements.
Amberser, of course, made a fortune. The orcs were satisfied with the airdrop service provided by Amberser, and Amberser came to know the name of the young orc commander—Urbano Pacheco, a very young orc, just twenty years old this year, and not a legendary powerhouse.
This was almost impossible among the orcs. Who would accept a young orc with little combat strength as their commander?
Amberser was curious as to how this orc had acquired the position of commander, well aware that to gain military power among the orcs, the first task was to defeat the previous commander in a duel.
But the orcs’ secrets wouldn’t be so easily shared with Amberser. He could only guess that it had something to do with the orcs’ Lord God Geush. It seemed that Urbano Pacheco was also a mortal blessed by a deity.
As for what specific effects this blessing had, Amberser couldn’t tell.
It couldn’t possibly grant him a powerful ability to lead, could it? The orc Lord God wasn’t particularly known for command skills; Geush seemed more like a brave warrior who had once attempted to duel Corellon, the Elf Lord God... and ended up blinded in one eye.
That was quite an achievement. Given Corellon’s prowess, challenging Corellon at the height of his power and only losing an eye was quite a testament to Geush’s rank among the mighty divine powers.
Having secured a victory, the orcs didn’t rush to press their attack but tried to establish a solid base outside the mountains, a cautious tactic similar to how Laine had attacked the desert before.
The Laine People felt incredibly stifled, never before having endured such humiliation.
In the end, they had to allocate Ange Watson to the battlefield here.
At that moment, the fragmented Laine set aside their differences, just as Amberser had earlier indicated. The external pressure brought them back from the brink of division towards unity, rather than breaking them apart.
Ange Watson didn’t disappoint either, showcasing the art of war on the battlefield—three consecutive victories that led to the fall of an orc legend.
Having witnessed Amberser’s Undead Legion and even personally led it, Ange Watson prevented the orcs from using any "surprise troops." With the Laine People prepared, the Trash Fish Army struggled to achieve significant results.
Just as they were about to push the orcs back, Urbano Pacheco pulled off a bizarre and circuitous sneak attack. Nobody knew how the young orc managed to bypass the Laine People’s seemingly thorough blockades and ambush Ange Watson’s rear, not only burning most of the supplies but also capturing many Laine civilians, forcing Ange Watson to abandon the orc stronghold he was about to take.
Urbano Pacheco successfully defended his freshly built stronghold, but at great loss to the orcs, while the Laine People failed to achieve their strategic goal of driving the orcs back into the mountains. Everyone suffered losses, yet all sides chose to continue the fight.
As the standoff between both sides set in, Amberser received a fair share of good news.
In the battle for the Volcanic Ocean Region, Aige achieved victory after victory, expanding her initial two territories into double digits. The Undead Troops had a tremendous advantage in the sea, and without Holy Light to counter them, they were the strongest army.
Aige was smart. Taking advantage of her enemies’ lack of a solution, she didn’t aim to manage more territories but focused on reducing enemy numbers instead.
And her primary target was the Yixi Manta Ray. Exchanging their corpses time and again, the Mermaid Clan sent over a large number of criminals.
One really couldn’t know until it became apparent—there were so many within the Mermaid Clan accused of "indulgence" crimes. Now, the number of mermaids willing to accept Aige’s rule surpassed ten thousand.
This number was already sufficient to establish a not-so-small Mermaid Tribe.
Aige temporarily halted her war mode and began attempting to gather the faith of the mermaids.
This was a difficult task for Aige, as she was still mortal.
Even as a legendary figure, she lacked a Deity Position and therefore couldn’t directly use the Power of Faith. She had to spend time and patience slowly integrating the Power of Faith into her body, a very slow process.
But things couldn’t keep going smoothly forever. The Goddess of Fate always liked to give a few sweets before delivering a kick.
Just as Amberser gained an absolute advantage, the Kuotuo Murlocs, Yixi Manta Rays, and Sharkwa Fishmen—these three races—chose to temporarily unite.
This time, it wasn’t merely a loose alliance.
The deities behind these three races decided to cooperate, commanding their followers through divine oracles to join forces against Amberser’s burgeoning power.
To determine the ownership of the Volcanic Ocean Region quickly and minimize unnecessary casualties, the gods sent an invitation for Aige to participate in a war game challenge.
If Aige lost, she would immediately lead all her subordinates away from the Volcanic Ocean Region. But if she won, these three deities were willing to cede a portion of their divine power to let Aige skip the process of accumulating faith and directly ascend to godhood.
However, when Amberser saw the details of the invitation, he said to Aige, "Those three deities really take us for fools! They don’t want to play some war game; they want to tear you to pieces and devour you once you ascend to godhood!"
