Chapter 385: Chapter 358: Black Tide

Harpies are a terrifying breed of monster, with bodies and faces like women, but instead of arms, they have wings, and their legs end in eagle’s talons.

According to unofficial history, there was an elf girl who chanced to see the face of the Deity Corellon and couldn’t forget him, waiting in the forest for his return.

But she died without a glimpse of him again, and her resentful spirit became the first harpy.

Of course, there’s another more explicit version that blames Corellon for leading her on and then abandoning her, which turned the elf girl into a monster out of spite.

Amberser didn’t quite believe this second version.

Take the Magic Goddess, for example, who slept with her follower just once and never appeared again.

Is that to be spurned? That’s what I’d call a blessing of the divine.

The Magic Goddess isn’t even known for her beauty, and that’s still called divine grace. Corellon, on the other hand, is said to be the most beautiful Deity—just look at Katherine. Even if you magnify Katherine’s charm a hundredfold, it might still fall short of Corellon’s beauty.

If a god like him sleeps with you once, you should consider your ancestors blessed. Still blaming him for betrayal? What, you wanted to be the next goddess queen or something?

So it’s more likely the first case, where the elf girl’s unrequited love for the Deity turned her into a monster.

And it’s because of this warped mentality that harpies are evil. They enchant men with their mesmerizing singing.

Those with weaker wills lose all capacity for thought upon hearing the harpies’ song, becoming the harpies’ prey.

At the ship Black Tide’s bow, there was a cliff, a nest teeming with harpies.

Just the opportunity I was waiting for; what a coincidence, perfect for testing the Black Tide’s combat capabilities.

"Approach slowly, let the harpies attack first."

Under Amberser’s command, the Black Tide started reducing its speed, provocatively flying towards the harpies’ nest.

The appearance of this huge ship immediately stirred the harpies into action.

There were plenty of them, a dark swarm of at least a hundred.

The harpies weren’t very bright. Despite never having seen such a large object, they flapped their wings and charged in order to protect their nest.

Some of the harpies had already begun to sing, their dulcet voices weaving charming magic into the melody.

Most prey would stand fixed in place upon hearing the song, ready for the slaughter. But alas, this trick didn’t work on the undead.

The harpies pounced onto the Black Tide, leaving sparks as their claws scratched the armor, but only minor scrapes resulted.

Amberser said to Husky, which looked like a blob of mercury, "Go try out the ship’s Magic Conduction Cannon."

Husky was a ranger in life and retained his marksmanship even after becoming undead.

He was used to the Magic-guide Rifle, but the cannon was more or less the same.

Thrilled, Husky sprinted to the weapon’s bay on either side, laying his tendrils across the control panel.

A section of the Black Tide’s armor slid open to reveal a massive cannon barrel.

With a boom, a shell shot out, blasting two harpies into a red mist.

"Thrilling!" Husky yelled excitedly.

Magic-guide rifles be damned, they only put a hole in their target, but the Magic Conduction Cannon, now that was fun—obliterating creatures into dust and bone.

Switching the ammunition to buckshot, one blast sent a dozen harpies plummeting, bleeding profusely.

Switch to Bone Proliferation Virus ammunition, a single shot results in several clusters of Bone Coral blossoming.

Husky was having a blast, blasting those Harpies to pieces and making them flee in disarray.

Several gun ports opened up on the sides of the Black Tide, and volleys of cannon fire struck the Harpies, resulting in heavy casualties and disarray.

The Black Tide wasn’t powered by a single Pseudo-Soul, Amberser had installed corresponding Pseudo-Souls in each crucial part of the ship.

Aside from the outermost layer being a pure mechanical structure, the inner gears were all part of the Undead.

All together, though the airship could only carry a dozen or so passengers, it housed more than six hundred Pseudo-Souls.

The Pseudo-Souls took charge of the main controls, and the other Undead were responsible for coordination.

Now, it seemed to be effective, as the cannon fire was surprisingly accurate.

Watching this scene, Melina excitedly said, "Father, I want to try it too."

But Amberser handed another remote control to Melina and said to her, "This is even more fun."

As Melina pressed the switch, a drone rose from the deck of the Black Tide.

Compared with the palm-sized drones of the past, this new model was much larger, about two meters in length with a 1.6-meter wingspan at its widest.

Equipped with two mini Magic Conduction Cannons that could automatically switch ammunition, plus five Alchemical Bombs for low-altitude bombing, and with a top speed of double the speed of sound, its agility was extremely high.

This Black Tide had nearly depleted half of Amberser’s fortune, as he had installed almost every conceivable design on it.

Melina controlled the drone and pursued the fleeing Harpies. It had to be said, she had a strong talent for combat and quickly mastered the operational tactics of the drone, easily taking down the Harpies.

Big Black, looking on enviously, said, "Master, can I play with it too?"

Amberser replied with a smile, "I’ve saved something else for you, come with me."

Hasting followed Amberser into a cabin. It wasn’t large, but several sets of uniquely designed armor hung on the walls.

Amberser pointed to the various armors, saying, "This is Assault, this is Holy Shield, this is Swift Thunder... pick one."

In excitement, Hasting chose the Assault armor, as the name alone sounded powerful.

As soon as he touched the armor, its pieces flew out automatically and attached perfectly to Hasting’s mechanical body.

"Permanent Flight Spell, Thunderous Wave and Freezing Ray, an extended double-handed sword, plus the improved mini Magic-guide Cannon on the shoulder, these are the weapons of the Assault armor. It has decent defense, so charge forward with confidence."

Having explained, Amberser watched as a hatch beneath Hasting’s feet opened, dropping him through.

The giant iron lump plummeted downwards, looking like it would shatter into pieces, but Hasting finally got the hang of the controls.

Employing the Flight Spell and the Jetpack to provide speed, Hasting charged towards the sparse groups of Harpies.

These creatures were close to being completely wiped out, and he had to act quickly or miss out.

Hasting, controlling the Assault armor, charged into the enemy ranks and swung his longsword, slashing Harpies one by one, while the Magic-guide Cannon on his shoulder kept firing, though his aim was rather poor, missing at close range several times.

Even so, Hasting thoroughly enjoyed his bout of piloting the Mecha.

Once all the Harpies were taken down, everyone returned to the cockpit, still craving more action and wishing for another round.

Amberser was also satisfied with the outcome of the battle, and the Black Tide still had several

Regrettably, they faced
