Chapter 363: Chapter 337: The Death of the Ironblood General

Under the strong envelopment of the Holy Light, Rachel Angelo would have been hard to detect by Withered Rose, but she was still holding onto the other party’s hair.

Connected through their breaths, sensing each other’s presence, Rachel Angelo was locked onto by Withered Rose.

Gaze of Death, the Legendary Grace of Withered Rose, caused any living creature under her "gaze" to turn into an Undead.

It ignored all defenses and could not be resisted.

After being strengthened by Shael, Withered Rose’s Legendary Grace had become even more powerful than before, quickly taking effect even on Legendary Paladins.

Rachel Angelo only felt a pain in her finger, and when she lifted her right hand, she saw her fingertips turning to ash, just like those Death Knights.

It was Rachel Angelo’s fingers that continued to undergo the process of becoming Undead, even as she was exposed to the encapsulation of the Holy Light.

The Holy Light would purify the Undead, no matter who you are.

Becoming Undead wasn’t very painful, but when purified by the Holy Light, an Undead would feel an excruciating pain akin to being torn apart.

Rachel Angelo now deeply experienced what torture was like, making even this battle-hardened general cry out loud.

But this was all in vain; the transformation into Undead continued, and her hand had completely disappeared.

Those Light Priests wanted to save their general, but their Divine Arts were useless against this curse.

The newly grown hand was still undergoing Undead transformation, then subjected Rachel Angelo to the purifying effect of the Holy Light once again.

Amberser, Withered Rose, and Melina, this family of three, stood in the distance, watching the dying struggle of the Ironblood General.

Withered Rose said to her daughter, "Melina, be prepared. Once this Holy Light Barrier is withdrawn, kill all the Laine People."

But Amberser shook his head, "No, this Holy Light Barrier will not be lifted."

Withered Rose asked with confusion, "You mean, he will hold out stubbornly until he is completely vanquished rather than withdraw the barrier?"

Amberser nodded and explained, "Although Rachel Angelo is brutal and unkind, he became a Legendary Paladin and would not break his oath. We don’t have much time. Once Rachel Angelo perishes, the reinforcements from Flow Flame City will be nearly here, and it will be time for us to retreat."

Just as Amberser had said, Rachel Angelo wailed in agony, rolling frantically on the ground, yet he held on stubbornly until both his arms completely vanished.

Even after biting his own teeth to shards and his mouth filled with blood, Rachel Angelo did not order the Holy Light Barrier to be lifted.

He also did not leave the range of the Holy Light Barrier, because he was well aware that he was doomed to die. Staying there would result in complete disintegration into ash. If he stepped outside the Holy Light Barrier, he would be captured by those Liches and might truly become an Undead under someone else’s control.

For a full three minutes, as the reinforcements from Flow Flame City were arriving, Rachel Angelo’s head also underwent complete Undead transformation, and then under the scorching of the Holy Light, disintegrated completely into ash, with his soul utterly annihilated.

The Holy Light would not spare the Undead, it destroyed not just the body, but the soul along with it.

Sensing that her curse had completely failed, Withered Rose sneered, "He lives up to the name of the Ironblood General. I was thinking that after his death, I could dig up that old codger Silver Moon and put him in there. Now it seems, there will be no burial for him."

However, after her taunt, Withered Rose smiled at Amberser and said, "Thank you. I have not seen Laine suffer like this for many years. This loss will keep that Young Emperor awake for months."

"It was just going with the flow. I had not intended to predict the death of Rachel Angelo. I wanted to see another future, but alas..."

Amberser also felt helpless, this occurrence was completely accidental. Even with the death of Rachel Angelo, the war would not stop. The Laine would still invade Impure Chant as prophesied.

Rachel Angelo was simply unlucky. Carrying a grudge, he brought a few confidants to confront an old friend, intending to bring him back. Rachel Angelo did not wish to kill, so he did not want too many to know the truth of Lorencos’s defection; only his own guards could be trusted to keep their mouths shut.

The other Legendary powerhouses were left in the city to avoid any other complications.

This might have been the only time in his life when Rachel Angelo showed leniency, and then he died.

Lorencos as well, after compromising countless times and deceiving himself for decades, decided to stand firm once, and then he too died.

Sometimes, Amberser also felt that the Goddess of Fate had too cruel a sense of humor.

"Let’s go, the reinforcements from Flow Flame City have arrived. They are now a mournful army; there’s no need to fight with them now."

Amberser, in order to carry out this ambush, had not prepared too many troops; illusions are useful, but they can’t possibly conceal a large-scale Undead Army set up for an ambush.

There were only ten Death Knights, and not more than thirty Mercury Avatars. Everything depended on high-end combat capabilities.

As a result, all the Mercury Avatars were lost, and all the Death Knights were gone too—this was a somewhat painful loss.

The army from Laine City has now emerged, so of course they’re going to flee.

Withered Rose felt a bit regretful, as she originally wanted to finish off Rachel Angelo’s remaining personal guards, and now she can only spare their lives.

"How about you? Why don’t you come back with me to Gloomyland and we can celebrate properly," Withered Rose asked.

Amberser shook his head and said, "I’m not done yet. Rachel Angelo was just the first half; Allen is the second half."

"All right, come anytime, I’ll always welcome you."

Withered Rose felt a hint of regret, but seeing Amberser working so hard against the Laines was also something she wanted to witness.

Withered Rose returned to Gloomyland with Melina, whereas Amberser picked up the corpses of Lorencos and Allen’s followers and pursued in the direction Allen had fled.

After flying for over a dozen kilometers, Amberser found Allen with swollen red eyes in a small valley.

Amberser placed the corpses in front of Allen and asked him, "Do you know how to resurrect?"

Allen, with bloodshot eyes, shook his head and said, "I do not, but even if I did, I fear it wouldn’t be of use. Their souls have probably ascended to the Divine Realm by now."

Amberser chuckled and said, "That’s not necessarily true. I haven’t heard that an epiphany at the time of death guarantees a ticket to heaven."

But Allen said firmly, "They must have, because their sins aren’t entirely their own doing. The real problem is the Empire, which for years has twisted the true essence of our faith. Lorencos, Frodo, and the others, they were just people who were led astray."

Amberser said in surprise, "I was thinking of consoling you, but now it seems unnecessary. You’re not in despair."

"What right do I have to be in despair? It’s my fault that they met with disaster; their deaths are my responsibility, and I will carry on their wishes. I have no time for self-reproach, nor for despondency." Allen spoke and then, fixing his reddened eyes on Amberser, said, "However, I have one question. Was all this designed by you?"

Amberser’s opportune appearance at his side, the coincidental encirclement of Lorencos and the rest, and then, when he himself had arrived to rescue them, Amberser suddenly ambushed Rachel Angelo.

All this appeared too well-prepared by Amberser, and Allen suspected that even the whereabouts of Lorencos might have been deliberately leaked by Amberser.

If that were the case, Allen would have to draw his sword against Amberser.

"If I say ’yes’, you’ll definitely want to fight to the death with me, won’t you? You just spoke of a great responsibility," Amberser said.

Allen’s gaze did not falter as he replied with a calm tone, "I do not know. I do not know if I can remain calm upon meeting the person behind it all, so it is best that you give me the real answer!"

"Alright, teasing an angry person is no fun, and I don’t like such meaningless pranks. To tell you the truth, I originally didn’t want to divine anything related to you, and the future I sought was not this one. Alas, the Goddess of Fate didn’t want me to glimpse under Her skirt but instead rewarded me with a view of Her shoe sole.

"Allen, whether you believe it or not, I never thought to use you as bait. To put it bluntly, you don’t have that status yet. Think carefully about what you should do, and don’t let their deaths be in vain."

Allen breathed a sigh of relief, this time he chose to believe Amberser’s words.

Indeed, as he said, he was not qualified enough to be used.

"Then, what did you want to divine? Could it be that you saw the future of this war?" Allen asked.

"I don’t know, I only see that the Laine invasion won’t be affected by anything, but as for the outcome of the war, I can’t see it; She doesn’t allow me to. I know that an old friend of mine is likely to die."

Hearing the melancholic tone in Amberser’s voice, Allen asked, "Aren’t the Undead supposed to be devoid of emotions?"

Amberser spread his hands helplessly and said, "Who knows? Maybe my time as a Lich hasn’t been long enough, and a few decades has not been enough to erase centuries of memories. The more I see those close old friends, the more I find it difficult to remain indifferent. This time, I’m sure to take a loss in business."

Allen looked back at the still dazed Frodo. The young man seemed to have yet to recover from the tragedy of his father’s death, his eyes vacant and unresponsive, as if he himself had died.

"Master Ultraman, can I ask you to take Frodo to a safe place?" Allen asked earnestly.

Amberser nodded, thinking he might as well tuck him into his private space and freeze him; it wouldn’t even cost any food expenses.

But just after Allen spoke those words, Frodo suddenly lifted his head and said to Allen, "No, I won’t go anywhere."

Frodo stood up excitedly, grasping Allen’s collar with force, and roared, "Allen, my father is dead, he could have lived, why did he choose to die? Tell me, why did he have to die?!"

"Because he wanted to save more people, not just you, not just the other people of Laine, but also the Ironblood General. He wanted to use his own death to make more people see the corruption of the Empire. Frodo, that’s my understanding."

"Is that thing more important than one’s own life?! He abandoned me too!"

Frodo finally broke down in tears, the streaks on his face washed away by his tears, much like a mischievous child.
