Chapter 362: Chapter 336 Ambush and Then Continue Ambushing

The dark fog obscured everyone’s visibility, causing that originally tight connection of Holy Light to waver for an instant.

And that brief moment was enough.

Amberser’s perception firmly locked onto Rachel Angelo’s position, guiding the flaming meteor with his own senses.

The Dice of Destiny turned the uncontrollable flight pattern of the Starburst into a certainty, smashing it heavily onto Rachel Angelo’s body.

The reason why Starburst is considered the shame of the Ninth Circle Spells is not due to its lack of power, but because it often misses its mark. But when it hits fully, it makes one understand why Starburst is a Ninth Circle Spell.

Four blazing meteors fell from the sky, all hitting Rachel Angelo squarely.

The first meteor smashed him from the sky into the earth, burying him ten meters deep, the second shattered his already tattered celestial armor completely.

When the third meteor fell, Rachel Angelo unleashed a Holy Slash, slicing it to pieces, but the fourth meteor still struck him. The celestial armor broke apart completely, Rachel Angelo didn’t know how many bones were broken, his body nearly flattened.

Unfortunately, he still breathed.

The shattered celestial armor transformed into Holy Light, merged into his body, and began to heal his wounds.

Amberser watched this scene unfold from above, and wasn’t surprised.

Rachel Angelo’s status in Laine was only slightly less than that of a Silvermoon Knight; he was no easy opponent, his body laden with magical equipment.

The resurrection effect of the celestial armor had already been broken by Lorencos, not because he had killed Rachel Angelo once, but due to Lorencos’s Legendary Grace, which allowed his Holy Slash to remove one type of magical enhancement from the enemy.

And just so it happened, Lorencos had eliminated his resurrection effect.

Now, Rachel Angelo’s Supreme Healing effect had also been depleted.

But Amberser did not continue to strike at Rachel Angelo, as the fog that enveloped the entire field was about to be dispelled, and controlling the Light Priests was not so easy a task; they had many methods to dispel magic effects.

What they didn’t expect was that, having just escaped the dark and before they could rejoin their strength, they were greeted with hundreds of bursts of dark magic power from the fingertips of Amberser.

Ninth Circle Magic: Decree of Death!

It cast a powerful instant death magic on the target; if one’s life force wasn’t strong enough, they couldn’t escape this instant death effect.

Decree of Death is a single-target spell, also known as the Ninth Circle waste spell.

A mage capable of casting Ninth Circle Spells is powerful in their own right, and those who duel such mages can usually pass the test of life force, rendering Decree of Death a useless spell, having no effect whatsoever.

But if facing mere foot soldiers, there’s no need for Ninth Circle Spells; a simple Fireball Technique could blow up a large number at once.

However, if Decree of Death became a group spell, then it would become the best spell for clearing foot soldiers, even better than Starburst. Because there’s hardly any defense against Decree of Death, it all depends on resisting with life force.

Hundreds of Paladins and Light Priests fell directly in large numbers under Amberser’s magical attack.

Guardian Aura, Magic Shields... none of these methods were of any use; such is the power of a Ninth Circle Spell.

It’s just that, to transform a single-target spell into a group spell, the cost was not insignificant.

Millions of Gold Coins were thrown away just like that, and the Golden Throne behind Amberser was visibly reduced by a piece.

If it had been continuous Fireball Technique, the killing effects would have been much worse, probably only enough to kill a dozen Paladins.

When Rachel Angelo climbed out of the hole, and saw those fallen corpses scattered across the ground, he roared with fury at Amberser.

"Hell-bound Lich! I will kill you!"

However, after uttering these words, Rachel Angelo gave the order directly, "Retreat!"

The surviving Paladins and Light Priests immediately reconnected the power of Holy Light together, forming a gigantic sphere of light and continuously launching Holy Light towards Amberser’s direction.

Although called the Ironblood General, Rachel Angelo never was the kind of fool who only knew to charge on his own like a Silvermoon Knight; he was the Empire’s most formidable military leader.

This time it was entirely because a friend’s betrayal caused him to lose his composure while Amberser had calculated this point exactly, catching him by surprise.

Although enraged, Rachel Angelo wouldn’t make wrong decisions because of it.

No matter how grievous the casualties, they had to retreat. Moreover, Rachel Angelo had already sent a call for help to Flow Flame City through the surging Holy Light.

Long-range communication poses a great challenge for all races, hence the Laine people have their own unique means of communication.

Differing frequencies of flashing Holy Light could convey different messages, a tactic the Laine people had previously used for long-range communication within and outside the walls of Alchemy City.

Though the required technology was advanced, and ordinary people couldn’t create beams of light that reach the sky, this method was truly effective and considered a very advanced military strategy.

Amberser didn’t understand their messages, but those seemingly random columns of light shooting into the sky, one could guess they had a purpose.

"Quite a few tricks up their sleeves!"

Amberser dodged those Holy Light attacks, but still leisurely followed behind the Laine army, looking like he was ready to go to the mat with them.

Inwardly, Rachel Angelo scoffed, wishing the Lich would keep up the pursuit; they were very close to Flow Flame City, and the city’s troops could arrive within minutes, at which point the Lich would be purified by Holy Light!

But just when Rachel Angelo thought everything was going to be alright, he suddenly felt something strange under his feet.

It’s soft and hard... Describing it this way might be a bit off, but it’s like stepping on a water bag, except this bag is oddly filled with hard metal, which is why the sensation of stepping on it is so strange.

Rachel Angelo didn’t look down but chose to immediately withdraw her foot and leap backward.

This movement allowed her to dodge the next deadly strike.

A silver sword had somehow appeared on the field, thrusting upward. If Rachel Angelo hadn’t dodged quickly, the sword would have stabbed up from beneath her.

It wasn’t the only trap; countless swords thrust up from the ground, aiming specifically for the gaps between legs. For a time, screams rang out as many were caught by surprise.

Though priests were quick to use Divine Arts to heal the wounded, the attack had thrown their formation into chaos.

Rachel Angelo now saw what kind of trap it was; dozens of silvery-white Slimes emerged from the ground, lunging at the nearest Laine soldiers.

Some were cleaved in two by a Holy Slash; others successfully latched onto the enemy.

Paladins and Light Priests, typically clad in thick armor, were normally unconcerned with ordinary attacks. However, these silver Slimes could corrode metal armor at a rapid pace and then form many fine blades to pierce their bodies.

Such an attack was unheard of, utterly startling the Paladins and Light Priests.

In this surprise attack, another dozen Laine People fell, while the rest frantically swung their longswords and cast Divine Arts to fend off the Slimes.

But Amberser wasn’t going to give them that chance.

A series of Fireballs were thrown at the Laine People, intending to burn them all to cinders.

Seeing the situation turn dire, Rachel Angelo had no choice but to grit her teeth and brandish her sword again.

Having taken the full brunt of the Starburst’s damage and still living was an achievement for Rachel Angelo. Her bones and organs were damaged, but now she could only fight personally.

The Ironblood General charged towards the Fireballs, Holy Slashes causing each of the Fireballs to explode. Rachel Angelo herself was knocked back continuously from the impacts, but she managed to barely block Amberser’s Magic Attack.

The opportunity allowed her own troops to break free from the Slimes’ entanglement and reorganize into a new formation.

Only the Laine Army in the entire world could still retain combat effectiveness after being ambushed multiple times; any other army would have undoubtedly disintegrated by now.

It’s just a pity that Amberser’s ambush wasn’t just that.

In the distance, a terrifying black cyclone shot up into the sky, a colossal whirlwind of Dark Magic Power.

An army composed entirely of Death Knights charged at the Laine People, led by Melina in heavy armor.

Gareth, riding an Eight-Legged Giant Horse, charged like a battering ram, capable of smashing everything before him.

Melina’s charge was like a sharp spear, capable of piercing any obstruction.

They were too close; the Death Knights couldn’t reach their top speed, but the Laine troops had just formed up and hadn’t caught their breath when the horde of Death Knights crashed into them.

Though the Death Knights were few in number, only about a dozen, they easily breached the Laine forces, leaving behind a gruesome path. Then, the Death Knights turned their horses around,

Watching this unfold, Rachel Angelo couldn’t help but spit out a mouthful of blood.

When had these Death Knights ambushed here, and how had Flow Flame City failed to detect any Undead nearby?

"Lorencos, you really have betrayed Laine! You’ve actually collaborated with the Undead!"

This was a premeditated ambush. Rachel Angelo believed she had been deceived by an old friend, who had used her as bait to send her into a dire situation.

But there was still a chance!

Rachel Angelo raised her longsword high and shot a brilliant ray of Holy Light into the sky.

Seconds later, another ray of Holy Light lit up from within Flow Flame City, responding to Rachel Angelo from afar.

Then, immense energy descended from the heavens, enveloping Rachel Angelo’s army.

Upon contact with the dazzling Holy Light, the Death Knights immediately turned to ash; their Magic Armor seemed to be of no use whatsoever.

Only Melina managed to quickly raise a Whispering Barrier in time to block this force and then swiftly ran to Amberser’s side.

This pillar of light not only damaged Laine People, but all living beings within its range suffered.

The Death Knights turned to ash, those silver Slimes began to evaporate, their bodies contorting and losing vitality.

Moreover, even the flowers and grass on the ground perished under the assault of the Holy Light.

With a united heart, the Power of Faith consolidated; this was where the Laine People were most formidable, turning the people’s faith into tangible power. Though Flow Flame City was a military city, its population was considerable, and the Power of Faith accumulated by the people’s prayers day and night was much more potent than the Starburst.

Bathed in Holy Light, Rachel Angelo’s figure was nearly translucent, but her voice resounded with unmistakable clarity.

"Despicable and shameless Undead, I will avenge this! Laine won’t allow your filth to remain in this world. Just wait; I will smash your Life Casket to pieces and use it to fill the latrines!"

Amberser chuckled and said, "That’s right, the Undead are filthy, and the Holy Light should purify them. So, General Angelo, have you ever considered that one day you might become one of the Undead?"

The space beside Amberser twisted, and Withered Rose stepped out from Amberser’s private space. The noble Undead Queen looked towards Rachel Angelo with eyes filled with the breath of death.
