Chapter 346: Chapter 323: Friendship Price of Twenty Billion
Amberser was respectfully invited into the city.
No matter how much the Laine People despised the Lich, they still had to recognize the special pardon from the Imperial Capital unless they were prepared to rebel.
And the Ironblood General, Rachel Angelo, happened to be the most steadfast Imperial Loyalist in the military, the kind who would weigh the Ryan Royal Family and faith on a balance.
So, don’t ask which is heavier, for when Holy Light and the Ryan Royal Family were put on the balance together, it could already be considered blasphemous.
But regardless, Rachel Angelo was still a powerful Legendary Holy Warrior, and during the meeting with Amberser, she radiated such strong Holy Light that it made Amberser feel deeply uncomfortable.
Seeing Amberser stop in his tracks from afar, Rachel Angelo revealed a disdainful smile. No matter how arrogant the Undead, they were still just Undead, and the special pardon couldn’t change the fact that the Undead were restrained by the Holy Light.
What Rachel Angelo didn’t know was that, although Amberser seemed to be shielding himself with his hands from the Holy Light, in reality, he was spreading his perception and closely observing Rachel Angelo.
This Ironblood General must be over two meters tall, as strong as a male lion, only wearing a full-face metal helmet. The once bushy hair had been pressed down by the helmet, sticking out oddly from both sides of his neck.
Certainly, the general was not used to wearing a helmet, so what prompted him to wear it when meeting with Amberser?
Amberser laughed inwardly, thinking he mustn’t be just missing a few hairs; perhaps he’s put on the helmet because he’s mostly bald.
Only, shouldn’t this old man be around seventy or eighty years old? How can he look so young?
Although Amberser had handcrafted the future of Rachel Angelo’s baldness, he didn’t know the exact reason that caused a Legendary Holy Warrior to lose hair; could only speculate it had something to do with his rejuvenation.
Going bald, and also stronger?
No way, that would be a bit of a pitfall.
Rachel Angelo approached Amberser like a glowing light bulb and said with a smirk, "Welcome, welcome, isn’t this Master Ultraman? I’ve heard of your name. It’s surprising to hear that you gave Silver Moon a profound lesson."
Amberser was taken aback. No way, was the incident of him tricking Silvermoon Knight in the past discovered?
That’s not right. If they knew, wouldn’t the special pardon have been retracted long ago?
Amberser remained on guard, ready to act and then flee at any moment.
To his surprise, Rachel Angelo continued, "If it was just Silver Moon you taught a lesson, I would not be so thrilled. After all, he is one of our heroes from Laine. But I heard you also gave that traitorous Allen Watson a harsh lesson, and I would like to have a drink with you for that."
So, she was talking about the last time he tricked Allen. Amberser was almost scared enough to summon the Golden Throne then and there.
Rachel Angelo laughed heartily, and her right hand, flickering with Holy Light, patted towards Amberser’s shoulder.
The cunning old fellow!
This slap was very sudden, it was clearly an ambush.
Luckily, Amberser’s reaction wasn’t slow; a slight movement of his fingers caused two tiny spikes to spring out from his shoulder.
Before entering the city, Amberser had already put on the seventy-eighth version of the Mithril Mech, which had so many weapon mechanisms that it could kill the same person over a hundred times covertly. These two small spikes had anti-magic properties, combined with a little Adamantine and coated with Amberser’s specially concocted poison—come on, let’s see if you’ve got the guts to slap down!
Rachel Angelo’s hand came crashing down but stopped less than half an inch from Amberser’s shoulder.
Rachel Angelo withdrew her arm and continued to smile at Amberser, "Hehe, I forgot you’re Undead, almost hurt you there, sorry about that."
Amberser also chuckled, casually saying, "No worries, I was actually curious to see what it would feel like if you did."
Rachel Angelo wasn’t the slightest bit embarrassed, acting as if she hadn’t heard Amberser’s response.
Amberser suddenly felt a bit troubled; this was the thickest-skinned Paladin he had ever seen.
He was not afraid of this person rashly charging in and calling for a fight, what frightened him was this kind of shameless person who could do anything.
However, there was a way to deal with it.
"General Angelo, I’ve come to make friends with you this time. I have a piece of information about the Kingdom of Impure Hymns, as a gift for our meeting," said Amberser.
"Oh, what information?" asked Angelo.
"To resist the military front of Laine, the Kingdom of Impure Hymns has made a deal with the Hell Lords. Once the war starts, Hell will assist them in fighting against Laine."
Rachel Angelo scoffed, "What secret is this? With so many Gates of Hell on the border, if they hadn’t negotiated with the Hell Lords, the Kingdom of Impure Hymns would have already become part of Hell. Master Ultraman, it seems your information is a bit outdated."
"But General Angelo, do you know which Hell Lord made a deal with them?"
Rachel Angelo finally changed her expression and asked, "You know?"
Amberser chuckled and said, "Of course, if it were something that everyone knew, how could I have the nerve to exchange it for friendship?"
Rachel Angelo originally abhorred Undead, allowing Amberser to enter was merely due to the authority of the special amnesty order, he even felt like utterly humiliating this ignorant Undead.
But now, he had to reconsider the importance of this "message."
The differences between Hell Lords are significant, and the aid they can provide varies.
If it were possible to know in advance which layer of Hell the Gates of Hell are connected to, whether it specializes in long-range spells or in using poison, knowing in advance would allow one to prepare corresponding Divine Arts. In this way, the losses for Laine would be much less.
Rachel Angelo smiled at Amberser and said, "You will tell me this message, won’t you? My friend."
"Of course, my friend," Amberser said with his mouth, but what he thought was: The old man doesn’t know yet that Laine will deploy the Magic Dragon Armament.
In the prophecy, the Magic Dragon Armament was to turn back time, making all the Gates of Hell disappear, so there was absolutely no need to worry about which layer of Hell they came from; those creatures would not appear at all.
With about a month and a half until Laine’s major offensive, when would Laine notify the front line that the Magic Dragon Armament would be deployed?
Although the prophecy confirmed that the Magic Dragon Armament would definitely appear, the impact of the Magic Dragon Armament on the Gates of Hell was something he and Mr. Misfortune had guessed; what if there were changes?
Rachel Angelo had no idea what Amberser was thinking and continued to press, "Which Hell Lord is collaborating with Tiflin then? What is the content of the collaboration?"
Just as Amberser was about to make up a name, a sudden feeling overcame him, and he said to Rachel Angelo, "I can’t say the name, but as for the content of collaboration... General Angelo, have you ever thought that one day, your friends might become your enemies?"
Rachel Angelo frowned and asked in confusion, "What do you mean by that? Are they preparing some kind of charm spell?"
Thinking about it, that seemed unlikely. The will of Paladins is very steadfast, with a strong resistance to common charm spells. Even if a Hell Lord personally intervened, it would be difficult to control the Paladins on a large scale. Even if they were truly affected by a charm spell, the Light Priest had many Divine Arts that could eliminate such effects.
Amberser shook his head and said, "Of course, it’s not a charm spell, a common method, but an unavoidable curse."
Just as Amberser’s words finished, several exclamations were heard from outside the reception room.
Rachel Angelo was startled; without waiting for the report from the outside, he quickly walked out.
As soon as he left the room, Rachel Angelo saw his guards drawing their swords and forming a circle, surrounding one of his own close guards.
Rachel Angelo shouted, "What’s going on?! What has happened to Frodo?!"
Hearing Rachel Angelo’s voice, a guard hastily reported, "General, Frodo, he... he has turned into Undead!"
Rachel Angelo’s eyes widened as he pushed through the crowd to see for himself.
He saw Frodo, a young man, kneeling on the ground in agony. His right hand shone with Holy Light, but it could not stop the spread of gray climbing up his palm.
Rachel Angelo immediately sensed the nauseating Dark Magic Power.
Frodo’s right hand had already turned a grayish-black color of Undead in part, the collision between Holy Light and Undead limb causing Frodo to let out bursts of screams.
Rachel Angelo drew the sword at his waist and amputated Frodo’s right arm at the shoulder. Blood spurted out, but was quickly stopped by the power of Holy Light, Frodo lost much blood, but at least his life was not in danger.
Rachel Angelo turned angrily back towards Amberser, raising his sword with intense Holy Light congealed around it, elongating the blade several times over, aiming straight at Amberser’s forehead.
"Lich, is this your doing?! Don’t think the amnesty order can really save your life!"
Amberser felt the intensely concentrated Holy Light burning his forehead, almost smoking.
But he showed no fear and spoke calmly, "If I say it has nothing to do with me now, you surely won’t believe me. Then, why don’t you look at your subordinate first, to see if he can still be saved."
Rachel Angelo turned his head in doubt, only to see Frodo, who had just regained some semblance of sanity, rolling on the ground again in agony.
He constantly wailed in pain, flailing his left hand, the gray from before spreading once more, starting from his fingertips.
This time, Rachel Angelo did not swing his sword to cut off his left hand, without clearing up the source, cutting would be useless.
As Rachel Angelo turned back, his expression was still grim, but he no longer regarded Amberser as the culprit as he had before.
Rachel Angelo had calmed down, Amberser could not possibly perform a Necromancy Spell to turn a living person into Undead right in front of him. Moreover, Frodo was his guard, a High-order Holy Warrior; to turn a Holy Warrior into Undead alive, there could not be absolutely no sign. Given the sensitivity of a Holy Warrior to Dark Magic Power, Amberser could not have deceived him.
If there were such a method, Amberser alone could kill everyone in Flow Flame City.
"What exactly is going on, you know the inside story, I hope you can tell me the truth, otherwise..." Rachel Angelo clenched his teeth, no longer maintaining his previous veneer of composure.
Amberser continued to smile but reached up to gently rub the burned spot on his forehead, speaking to Rachel Angelo, "General Angelo, I came here to make friends with you just now, and the intelligence should have been free. But your strike just now... We’re not friends, so let’s talk business. How much are you willing to pay for this intelligence? I’ll give you a friendly guidance price, twenty billion Gold Coins!"
