Chapter 345: Chapter 322 Heading to Flow Flame City
Amberser did not linger in the Impure Chant, even though Red River Town was where he had lived the longest, he harbored no attachment to this completely changed city.
He teleported directly to Blackgate City on the border, and after leaving the city, Amberser used an Illusion Technique to conceal himself and flew up into the sky.
He wanted to see the situation in this area for himself to ascertain whether it was possible to withstand the might of Laine’s army.
As soon as he took to the skies, Amberser saw those densely packed Gates of Hell.
When inactive, the Gates of Hell could be hidden, totally invisible, but the Impure Chant was meant to intimidate Laine, so these Gates of Hell all projected phantom images.
Each of the Gates of Hell stood a hundred meters tall, the ones Amberser had seen before were completely miniature in comparison, not at all on the same level.
These Gates of Hell were distributed along the border between the two countries, a line stretching about two hundred kilometers, with rugged mountain ranges and numerous active volcanoes at both ends of the border.
So, apart from this two hundred kilometers of border, it would be difficult for Laine to bypass these volcanoes and attack into the heartlands of the Impure Chant.
But the space here was also sizable, almost entirely flat plains, and besides the Gates of Hell, there were many lava rivers purposefully dug out by Tiflin, drawn from those active volcanoes to form an intersecting lava area.
These dozens of Gates of Hell were evenly distributed along the border, with one every two or three kilometers. The defense line could be described as quite tight.
In total, there were twenty-three border cities on both sides, with Impure Chant having slightly fewer, only ten.
Blackgate City was the foremost city, a completely militarized city, and as its walls were perennially stained with volcanic ash, they had turned black, hence the name Blackgate City.
There were thirteen border cities on Laine’s side, with Flow Flame City being the closest to the border and also the largest. The remaining twelve cities served as satellites to Flow Flame City, playing roles in supplying materials and defense.
Laine’s army would definitely set out from Flow Flame City, and after crossing the border, they would encounter barriers from lava rivers and the obstructions of the Gates of Hell.
Under normal circumstances, these two things would be enough to stop any army.
Tiflin just needed to wait in Blackgate City, occasionally supporting with long-range magic.
Even if the Laine People were brave and invincible, breaking through this area, the monsters from the Gates of Hell would chase after and bite at their heels, driving them into Blackgate City; this pincer attack would be enough to completely finish the Laine People off.
As long as the Laine People could not jump over this defensive line, the Impure Chant could rest easy.
But now that the defensive line was as good as non-existent, the defense line of the Impure Chant appeared extremely weak, like it was made of paper, and Laine could easily pierce through it with a gentle poke.
And with Blackgate City lost, it was as if the gates of the Impure Chant were wide open, allowing the Laine People to fight however they wanted. With their logistical support secured, they could easily take over the entire kingdom.
"No wonder Uradimir was willing to build this defensive line. It’s indeed impressive; cost-effective and highly efficient, saving countless military expenses. It’s no wonder the kingdom’s environment has been improving. But alas, everything comes with a price," Amberser mused.
The longer he lived in this world, the more Amberser understood what fate had in store.
Amberser recently seemed to be thriving, but that was the result of centuries of homeless wanderings. He had lost not just one opportunity to become a god but also countless regrets that could make his soul tremble just by remembering them.
Arthur Laine, as if he had cheated death, with a mortal body slew the Magic Dragon Tyrant, liberating the entire world. Then, in the last stage of his life, he had to struggle against the Evil Will of the Magic Dragon, eventually causing his soul to utterly annihilate.
The Dragon Race was the same, having once ruled the world, now driven overseas, and newborn drakes could only eat fish, which shows just how miserably they lived.
Uladimir had thrived for hundreds of years, but now the time had come to repay its debts.
Amberser continued to fly in the high skies, preparing to head to Flow Flame City to see how the Laine People were preparing, and whether there was any opportunity to exploit.
Amberser was ruthless enough to show himself directly, appearing outside Flow Flame City, displaying his Dark Magic Power for all to see.
Flow Flame City, sensing this Undead’s magic power, immediately erupted in Holy Light, locking onto Amberser.
But Amberser craftily stood far outside the city, beyond the reach of the city’s defensive magic system.
Therefore, it wasn’t long before Flow Flame City saw dozens of figures rush out, likely Paladins who had come to scout.
Upon seeing Amberser, a Lich who did not conceal his Dark Magic Power, they immediately raised their long swords and shouted, "Holy Light, this evil is worth battling!"
A dozen Paladins galloped furiously, with Holy Slash already condensing on their swords, ready to hack Amberser into bone dust.
But Amberser chuckled and conjured a surge of Magic Power from his fingertips, erecting a huge stone wall in the path of the charging Paladins.
Thankfully, there was some distance, and the Paladins, being quite skilled in horsemanship, quickly reined in their steeds, narrowly avoiding a collision with the wall.
Meanwhile, Amberser had already appeared atop the earthen wall, holding a writ of amnesty in his hand which he threw to the Paladins.
"Don’t just swing at the sight of the Undead, I am a Lich specially pardoned by your Laine Empire; according to your laws, you can’t just rough me up , that’s illegal."
This speech nearly drove the Paladins to fuming rage. A specially pardoned Lich, they had never... wait, there had indeed been talk of it.
Initially, when Amberser prevented a war and was pardoned by Laine, the incident caused quite a stir, with many arguing that an Undead should remain an Undead, not pardoned just because it had done a good deed.
Yet, many supported this view because it was simply written so in the doctrine, that saving mankind from peril was a commendable act..
Amberser’s war-prevention saved the lives of over a million humans; rewarding the Lich seemed only right, otherwise, these Priests would be embarrassed to accept awards themselves, considering they could not save as many people in their lifetime as Amberser had in one act.
Considering the issue of domestic stability, those opposed had no choice but to accept the outcome, or else every time an award was given, someone would surely make a sour comment like "such an attack means nothing compared to that Lich."
The issuance of this writ of amnesty had that reason in mind, as no one could afford the consequences of a collective rebellion by the Light Priests.
Recalling this not-so-pleasant past, the Paladins suddenly lost their fervor. For the first time in their lives, they encountered an Undead and could not swing their swords, not because they lacked courage, but because this Lich had privileges.
It was damn infuriating!
The Paladins, barely holding back the urge to curse, interrogated Amberser, "What are you doing in Flow Flame City? You’re not welcome here!"
Amberser replied with a smile, "Don’t rush, I have important information about the ’Impure Chant.’ As the sole Undead friend of Laine, shouldn’t I report this intelligence to your superiors?"
