Chapter 333: Chapter 310 Favor of the Goddess
Amberser Xiu looked at Brandir Sunda, whom he had knocked unconscious, and thought to himself how resilient the boy was, having held on until Amberser had finished firing two magazines of demon-breaking bullets before collapsing from exhaustion.
Even though his lack of battle experience was evident, the boy’s willpower was indeed strong.
And his Staff of the Oak Magic was exceptionally powerful; a few more hits and this mithril mecha would have been smashed to pieces.
What a pity, though. A druid, no matter how he transformed, could not keep up with a mecha flying at supersonic speeds. With the legendary ranger’s accuracy and the demon-breaking bullets, the druid was completely countered by Amberser.
Amberser also understood why the God of Alchemy regained his divine power by flying fast; breaching speed limitations could bring drastic changes to the entire continent.
Amberser patiently whittled away at Brandir Sunda’s magic power, and the young druid also understood that if he gave up, his tribespeople would be at the mercy of others, so he persisted to the end.
Looking at the unconscious Brandir Sunda, Amberser shook his head and said, "Silly boy, knowing you can’t win but still trying to fight head-on. Even if you can’t run, you could have hidden somewhere and attempted a surprise attack. Who knows, there might have been a chance for a turnaround?"
This was a matter of experience. Amberser had encountered unbeatable foes while adventuring with a team; all his teammates had been caught in a magic trap and fell into a coma, leaving only him unaffected. Their opponent was an ogre.
Amberser couldn’t just watch as the ogre consumed his teammates, so he chose to harass it constantly. He took advantage of the ogre’s slow movements; every time it dared to open its mouth to eat, Amberser would hit it with a cost-free Ice Ray.
With Amberser’s casting ability at the time, the effects of the Ice Ray were only enough to make the ogre shiver, but at least it could slow its actions.
If the ogre dared to chase Amberser, he would use Traceless Step to escape. It was simply a matter of seeing who would run out of energy first.
After dragging on for more than ten minutes, one of his teammates woke up, and luckily, it was the priestess. She revived the other unconscious teammates with a Divine Arts, and the outcome was that they all rushed the ogre, who knew how to lay traps but was still not smart enough to avoid being killed.
Persistence is good, but one must also use their brain.
Fearing that Brandir Sunda might cause trouble, Amberser cast a Sleep Spell on him and force-fed him a potion of sleep.
Even as a legend, he would have to sleep for at least a day.
After dealing with all the troublesome issues, Amberser then approached the ridiculously large banyan tree.
Upon rough estimation, the tree was over a hundred meters tall, with the diameter of the main trunk being forty to fifty meters, not counting those aerial roots hanging down. In short, the tree was even larger than Amberser’s castle.
Amberser casually picked a spot close to the trunk to start preparing a hole.
Three hundred meters underground couldn’t possibly be dug out with just hands.
Amberser summoned the Golden Throne directly and began to cast the sixth-ring Spell, Earth Tremor!
The ground instantly cracked open, revealing a dark pit about thirty meters deep.
With the enhancement from the Golden Throne, the effect of Earth Tremor was multiplied several times. Amberser jumped to the bottom of the pit and cast Earth Tremor again, continuing another several tens of meters downward.
After digging a certain distance, Amberser would re-enter the dream to confirm the location of the skeleton with the Lady of Mist.
Continuing this process of casting Earth Tremor spells, Amberser soon saw the skeleton of the Lady of Mist, a body already decayed beyond recognition, except that the flesh and bones seemed to be made of mist. Amberser tried to touch it but only grasped void.
No wonder the deity’s corpse held such miraculous power even in death.
Amberser wasted no time, taking out the box containing the Dark Clergy and placing it above the skeleton after opening it.
A wisp of dark mist surged forth and merged with the skeleton.
Amberser extended his senses to see what becoming a deity entailed; however, to his disappointment, the integration of the dark mist and the skeleton didn’t result in any earth-shattering effect. It merely turned the skeleton black and then rapidly regenerated flesh, restoring it to the appearance of the Lady of Mist, Laila.
The reborn Laila had no divine pressure as one would expect of a deity but rather a feeling of being insubstantial and elusive.
Amberser quickly asked, "Have you recovered your divine power?"
Laila nodded and said, "I have once again become a deity, thank you. Over the years, you have been my greatest benefactor."
Laila still lacked any pretentious aura of a deity, which was why she had been referred to as the housebound goddess in the past.
"Then can you still remain here? Aren’t deities forbidden from entering the mortal world at will?" Amberser asked.
What he was more concerned about now was whether Laila would be ordered by Aeo to leave the Emerald Dream Forest. If she did, the Dreamweave Barrier might disappear. Without the barrier, the druids would likely invite an attack from the Laine People, unable to withstand the onslaught of their army.
"My situation is quite special. My flesh has merged with this land, creating the Mist Barrier. So, this body I inhabit isn’t complete yet. I only become a true deity once I’ve merged with the entire Emerald Dream Forest. However, doing that might cause all druids to ascend to the Divine Realm with me. That, I believe, is what Aeo would not allow. So I’ll stay here for the time being, gradually severing my power from this land. This will take a long time."
"During this process, can you still control the Dreamweave Barrier?" Amberser asked.
Laila said with a smile, "Of course, and moreover, my power is stronger than before. The Dreamweave Barrier is no longer limited to the Emerald Dream Forest."
Laila’s fingers traced a few gestures in the air, and many grey-black specks of dust appeared. She directed the dust to float in front of Amberser, telling him, "Inhale this dust, and no matter where you are, you will be able to enter the beautiful dreams I’ve woven for you."
Amberser wasn’t sure if it was an illusion, but he felt that Laila’s tone of speaking to him had changed slightly.
Laila smiled, stepped forward to Amberser, and caressed his Mithril armor saying, "You can come to find me in dreams whenever you want. In there, you are not a Lich. You can become any race, and I... can do the same."
Amberser understood immediately, but such a thing held little allure for a Lich; he would much rather have a powerful blessing.
Even though he didn’t really appreciate such a reward, Amberser would never reject it outright, as that would hurt the Goddess’s pride, and he might inadvertently turn into an enemy. He took a glass jar, filled it with the dust, and said to Laila, "Rest assured, I will definitely take the opportunity to enter the dream. By the way, I also have a magical item I’d like to give to you, Goddess."
Amberser took out a mechanical mirror and handed it to Laila.
"Just say ’Magic Mirror, Magic Mirror,’ and the mirror will activate. If I’m not able to enter the dream in time, you can also use this mirror to find me..."
Amberser carefully explained to Laila how to use the Magic Mirror for communication and then said to her, "I cannot stay here long. I should leave before those Druids awake."
Laila said with a trace of reluctance, "Go ahead, I’ll be waiting for you in the Divine Realm."
Amberser smiled. This time, he really did have a backdoor.
If all else fails, he could ascend to Laila’s Divine Realm. This Goddess’s ability to hide was so good that even the Prince of Lies had been deceived. It was unlikely the other deities would be able to trouble him now.
Amberser left the deep underground and didn’t fly away but instead found the Continental Transmission Array of the Emerald Dream Forest, deciding to teleport directly to the Impure Chant.
Having sent out all the Deity Positions, Amberser could finally enjoy the convenience of teleportation.
Although there was still over a month left until the time Mr. Misfortune mentioned, Amberser wasn’t planning on rushing there at the last minute. Who knew whether the old fellow would actually cooperate or if he was deceiving him?
Therefore, Amberser decided to visit Impure Chant first, treating it as a nostalgic revisit.
He could also see if the Ironblood General had gone bald.
With a flash of light from the Teleportation Circle, Amberser arrived at Blackgate City on the border of Impure Chant.
With the continent currently in a state of tension, everyone who wished to enter Tiflin territory needed to come to Blackgate City first, and only after inspections could they enter the other cities of Impure Chant.
As Amberser emerged from the Teleportation Circle, a group of Tiflin soldiers eyed him with suspicion, ready to kill him on the spot if he made any suspicious movements.
A Tiflin Mage approached Amberser and said, "Human? State your identity and your reason for coming to Impure Chant."
Without any attempt at concealment, the Tiflin Mage directly cast a mind-detection spell on Amberser to ensure he wasn’t lying.
Amberser said with a smile, "Don’t be nervous, I am not a spy sent by Laine."
"Hmph, which spy would admit it? You’re human, so it’s possible..." The Tiflin Mage stopped mid-sentence and immediately closed his mouth.
That’s because Amberser conjured a globe of Dark Magic Power in his palm.
The Tiflin Mage recognized the spell; it was a Withering Spell, a signature spell from the School of Necromancy.
Amberser was definitely not a spy from Laine, as the Laine People abhor those who use Necromancy Spells, wishing they could kill every such practitioner.
The strength of the Magic Power contained in the Withering Spell made the Tiflin Mage feel tense and fearful; this must be a very powerful Necromancer.
The Tiflin Mage quickly apologized, "Sorry, my attitude was a bit poor just now, but please forgive me, master. Laine has been making moves recently that have put the situation on edge."
Amberser, unconcerned, asked, "May I enter the city now?"
"Well, Master, please explain the purpose of your visit. You must understand, a powerful Necromancer is more dangerous than a hundred Laine spies. Please forgive me, it’s a strict order."
Amberser said with a hint of resignation, "Actually, I’m headed for Red River Town. I used to be an Adventurer there many years ago, and this time I’m visiting old friends."
"Red River Town?"
The Tiflin didn’t take any chances and tried to ask Amberser for details about Red River Town.
Amberser responded based on his memories, but many details didn’t match up.
"Sorry, master, I’m afraid we’ll have to ask you to stay. We need more time to verify your purpose here."
