Chapter 1550: Chapter 1550 Ling Jinhua’s Decision
The next day, Luo Ziling got up early.
Luo Liansheng woke up even earlier than him.
The old man was already used to getting up early.
At his age, no matter how well he maintains his health, his body inevitably marches toward aging. His daily rhythm changes, too; early to bed and early to rise, lying in bed sleepless even in the mornings.
Luo Liansheng went out to the yard for his morning exercise, and after Luo Ziling got up, he joined him in some light practice.
In the small village in the Northwest, whenever Luo Liansheng was at home, Luo Ziling would practice martial arts with him every morning.
All of his martial arts skills were taught by Luo Liansheng, and one could say he gradually improved through sparring with Luo Liansheng.
Although Luo Liansheng was quite old, his agility was still unmatched by most, and Luo Ziling still couldn’t best him.
The grandfather and grandson hadn’t sparred for several days, so Luo Liansheng wanted to see if Luo Ziling’s skills had regressed during this time. He gestured for Luo Ziling to fight him, and Luo Ziling didn’t hesitate and immediately attacked.
Ling Ruonan, who had just gotten up, saw the grandfather and grandson brawling in the yard and was startled, quickly ordering Luo Ziling to stop.
But Luo Ziling did not stop; instead, he explained while continuing to attack Luo Liansheng.
Of course, when the two sparred, they wouldn’t use their full strength; it was more of a contest of techniques.
Upon hearing Luo Ziling’s explanation and seeing that it wasn’t a life-and-death fight, Ling Ruonan let out a sigh of relief.
After watching the two spar for a while, Ling Ruonan went inside to cook breakfast.
Luo Ziling and Luo Liansheng practiced for about an hour before ending.
After breakfast together, Ling Ruonan urged Luo Ziling and Luo Liansheng to get moving and head to the Ling Family Old Mansion.
Last night, she had already contacted Ling Jinhua, saying she would visit today with Luo Liansheng.
When they finished breakfast, it was already past nine o’clock, and from Ling Ruonan’s villa, it would take over half an hour to get there.
Ling Ruonan worried that if their timing coincided perfectly with their arrival, it would seem as though they were just going over for lunch in Ling Jinhua’s eyes.
She hoped Ling Jinhua would take the initiative to invite Luo Liansheng to stay for lunch, which would be entirely different from arriving at just the right time, forcing Ling Jinhua to entertain them.
Indeed, Ling Ruonan’s thoughts were sometimes meticulous.
However, Luo Liansheng was calm and unhurried. After dressing up, he leisurely headed out.
When he returned from Yuezhou, he brought back many local specialties. He didn’t carry Yuezhou’s most famous yellow wine with him, but had someone send it over earlier instead. The jarred Daughter’s Wine, Huadiao, Taidiao Wine, at least five years old of the original vintage, were very suitable as gifts.
Luo Liansheng brought Ling Jinhua a jar of fifteen-year Huadiao and a jar of twenty-year Daughter’s Wine, along with some pastries.
"It’s the thought that counts, not the gift itself," as Luo Liansheng joked.
Last time, when he visited Ling Jinhua, he also brought wine and nothing else.
To be honest, people of their age view gifts differently than younger folks.
Luo Ziling felt that bringing only two jars of wine to visit Ling Jinhua was quite shabby. If Luo Liansheng brought some health supplements, it would surely be more welcomed by Ling Jinhua. But to his surprise, Ling Jinhua beamed upon seeing the two jars of wine Luo Liansheng brought.
"Old Luo, I’ve got something to enjoy at lunch today — let’s have a few bowls together," Ling Jinhua squinted happily, crouching by the well-sealed wine jars and sniffing for a while before speaking joyously: "The wine you brought this time is no worse than last time."
"Why do you think the wine I brought this time would be worse than last time?" Luo Liansheng caught the other layer of meaning in Ling Jinhua’s words.
"Old buddy, if you’ve got grievances, share them when we drink later — easier that way," Ling Jinhua still laughed heartily.
"Grandpa, did you call him the wrong title?" Ling Ruonan teased, saying coquettishly: "You call Ziling’s grandfather ’Old Luo,’ which would mean my dad isn’t a generation below him?"
"Ha, so true," Ling Jinhua seemed to have just realized, "Got used to calling him that; need to change it moving forward."
After admitting his mistake, he looked seriously at Luo Liansheng, "Then, being a generation below you, what should I call you? ’Little Luo’ maybe?"
"Haha, calling me ’Little Luo’ instantly makes me feel much younger," Luo Liansheng also laughed heartily, "Indeed, generations shouldn’t be mixed up; from now on, I must call you ’Sir Ling.’
At this moment, Secretary Huang Chen sent some tea over to them, and Ling Ruonan quickly went to prepare some fruit.
After Ling Jinhua sat down, Luo Liansheng also followed suit and directly stated his intentions.
"I was living quite comfortably in Yuezhou, but before the year was even out, so many things happened in Yanjing. Our daughter-in-law from the Luo Family and your dear granddaughter were suddenly attacked on the street. When my son visited, someone else tried to harm him. Some people have gotten too bold. I, an old man, couldn’t resist coming back to see who has such audacity. After repeatedly targeting my grandson, they strike at my son and daughter-in-law. Do they wish for me to have no descendants?"
Ling Jinhua wasn’t the least surprised that Luo Liansheng spoke so bluntly. He waved with a smile, "Don’t take it too seriously, they’re just insignificant things. It’s just child’s play; don’t take it to heart. Let your grandson gain some experience; it’s not a bad thing."
"Just fear mishaps leading to loss of life," Luo Liansheng said, his smile fading, very solemnly adding: "I know my son and grandson have been patient time and again. If they weren’t, claiming someone’s life wouldn’t truly be difficult. Wouldn’t you agree, Sir?"
"Vent as much as you’d like, but it’s best to save it for when we’re drinking later — for now, let’s have tea," Ling Jinhua suggested, "How about we discuss something light instead? Then even if one slips in their speech, it can be dismissed as drunken talk."
"If Sir Ling has the interest, maybe consider leaving Yanjing for some time; visiting us in Yuezhou wouldn’t be bad," Luo Liansheng quickly shifted the topic, setting aside his earlier anger, "I’ve reclaimed the old mansion, nearly finished renovating it. It has a few hundred years of history, larger and more charming than the one here. The South’s spiritual aura is something you won’t find here."
"Great, I’ve truly wanted to visit the South come spring and flowers," at this, Ling Jinhua spoke with a mysterious air, "Perhaps you didn’t know my ancestors came from the South. My great-grandfather left Huzhou to study in the Capital and never returned."
"After so many generations, the Southern charm is long gone," Luo Liansheng laughed again, "If you’re interested, my grandson and I would accompany you to the South. With us by your side, you have nothing to worry about."
"Alright, deal’s done, when the weather improves, you’ll accompany me to see the bridges and willows in the South — it’s been years since I rowed a boat on West Lake."
Upon hearing Ling Jinhua decide like this, Ling Ruonan was overjoyed.
