Chapter 1435: Chapter 1435: You Did the Right Thing on This Matter
Luo Ziling still went back with Wuyue.
Wuyue drove, and Luo Ziling sat in the passenger seat.
"Sister Wuyue, do you think what I did today was right?" Luo Ziling turned his head to ask Wuyue, who remained silent.
"Your breath reeks of alcohol," Wuyue frowned and complained, but she didn’t answer Luo Ziling’s question.
"I think letting Ling Haijun go was the right choice, otherwise things would escalate further, and we’d be at a disadvantage," Luo Ziling said smugly, ignoring Wuyue’s complaint. "By letting him go, we’re no longer holding a hostage, and we’re not at a legal disadvantage anymore."
"Why didn’t you tell me about tonight’s operation?" Wuyue asked Luo Ziling irritably, her tone full of dissatisfaction.
Luo Ziling’s previous unfriendly attitude toward her still lingered in her heart.
Unexpectedly, this guy suddenly changed his attitude toward her again, acting playful.
That made Wuyue even angrier, unable to hold back her questioning.
"It was their private operation, I didn’t arrange it," Luo Ziling said dismissively, with a glance at Wuyue. "Yang Xiaodong and Wang Zhenjun are under your supervision, aren’t they? Also, didn’t you plan an operation tonight and not inform me about it either?"
"They often act alone and never tell me about it afterward," Wuyue said, still somewhat resentful.
"Can you tell me now why you suddenly became cold toward me?"
Wuyue didn’t expect Luo Ziling to abruptly change the topic, and for a moment she didn’t know how to react.
"Speak up!"
Wuyue ignored Luo Ziling, her gaze fixed ahead as she concentrated on driving.
"So annoying," Luo Ziling muttered unhappily.
Wuyue didn’t take it seriously and didn’t say anything further to Luo Ziling.
Luo Ziling stopped speaking as well, closing his eyes to rest.
It was still snowing outside, though the snowfall had lightened, resembling delicate flakes floating gently. However, the roads were already frozen, and all the cars drove cautiously to avoid skidding or losing control while braking. Wuyue also drove carefully, moving at half her usual speed.
When they arrived at the villa, it was already past midnight.
"Get some rest early," Luo Ziling said to Wuyue as he got out of the car.
Without waiting for her reply, he walked straight into the house.
Wuyue parked the car and followed him inside.
As Wuyue entered, Ling Ruonan, hearing the commotion, appeared with her head poking out from upstairs.
She hadn’t known Luo Ziling had gone out.
But after Luo Ziling and Wuyue left, she sensed something unusual.
Originally, she intended to call Wuyue over to discuss something before going to bed, but when informed that Wuyue and Luo Ziling had gone out together, she immediately felt a wave of unease.
She didn’t call either Wuyue or Luo Ziling but instructed the security team to report any unusual occurrences to her right away.
She stayed awake, waiting for Luo Ziling to return.
Luo Ziling was about to go upstairs, but seeing Ling Ruonan come down, he stopped on the staircase.
"Mom, you’re still up," Luo Ziling said with a cheeky grin, greeting Ling Ruonan.
"What’s going on?" Ling Ruonan asked, her brows furrowed, before directing the question at Wuyue, who was following behind, "What happened?"
"Mom, let me play you a recording," Luo Ziling said as he pulled out his phone, queued up a recorded call, and hit the play button.
After listening to the recording of the conversation between Ling Haining and Ling Haijun, Ling Ruonan’s expression immediately changed.
"Come to my room to talk," Ling Ruonan said, turning and heading into her room.
Luo Ziling quickly followed her.
Wuyue hesitated for a moment but eventually went in as well.
"There’s something even more intriguing," Luo Ziling said, pulling up a video on his phone and handing it to Ling Ruonan. "After painstaking efforts to ferret out clues, we almost gave up hope of finding the truth. Then, unexpectedly, they handed the answers right to us."
Ling Ruonan took the phone and began watching carefully.
Her expression had changed when she heard the phone recording earlier, but as she prepared to view the video, she had calmed herself down.
The video showed Ling Haijun recounting details during an interrogation.
Ling Haijun disclosed many events, particularly ones that Luo Ziling and Ling Ruonan had struggled to determine the mastermind behind.
From Ling Haijun’s account, the culprits orchestrating multiple attempts to kill Luo Ziling and ruin Luo Yuqing were finally revealed.
Ling Ruonan was furious at heart but managed not to show her anger, responding instead with a cold tone: "Where is Ling Haijun now?"
"Mom, I’ve let him go," Luo Ziling explained quickly after revealing his decision. "I believed the recordings and video were sufficient evidence. Anyway, we’re not taking him to court. Showing the recordings and video to Great Grandfather and Grandfather will make everything clear to them."
"Do you really think showing the recordings and video to the elders is the best approach?" Ling Ruonan asked, frowning slightly as she looked at Luo Ziling.
Luo Ziling hesitated momentarily, then asked in confusion, "Wouldn’t we want them to know about this?"
Ling Ruonan probed further: "Think about it—if this is brought to Great Grandfather and your Grandfather, how will things turn out?"
Luo Ziling reflected briefly before responding softly, "Everything would come to light, and ties would be irreparably broken."
"Indeed," Ling Ruonan said, standing up as she spoke. "If this gets exposed to them, it means a direct confrontation. After such a confrontation, how do you think the two heads of the Ling Family will react? They’re already aware of the underlying conflict between us, but they’ve chosen to ignore it or even sometimes tacitly encourage it. Have you considered what might happen if things truly fall apart?"
"Then that means we shouldn’t bring this to Great Grandfather and Grandfather?" As someone with less experience, Luo Ziling found it hard to comprehend such long-term implications, leaving him puzzled.
Ling Ruonan nodded but then elaborated: "We won’t directly involve them, yet we need them to learn about it. However, it shouldn’t be us speaking—others in the Ling Family must relay this. From there, we’ll let them decide how to handle it."
"Mom, you’ll definitely need to take charge of this," Luo Ziling said quietly as he sat near Ling Ruonan, adding softly, "Do whatever you think is right! But since we’ve uncovered the truth, we must demand compensation."
"I’ll personally handle it—of course, they’ll need to compensate," Ling Ruonan said, a dangerous glint flashing in her expression. "We’ve done everything in good faith, so we owe them no moral obligation anymore. If there’s a next time, there’ll be no compromise—only one of us will survive."
Luo Ziling understood that when Ling Ruonan said "no compromise," she was talking about the feud between her and Ling Zhengping.
In other words, Ling Ruonan had decided to abandon familial ties and prepare to retaliate forcefully against Ling Zhengping.
Of course, Ling Zhengping’s actions had completely provoked Ling Ruonan, leaving her with no choice but to give up on family loyalty.
Luo Ziling knew that Ling Ruonan was a deeply emotional person who valued family bonds greatly.
If not for this, she would have already annihilated the Ling Family.
"Letting Ling Haijun go was the right move," Ling Ruonan praised Luo Ziling. "Your reasoning showed you’re starting to think from a broader perspective."
"You make it sound like I’ve never thought about the bigger picture," Luo Ziling rolled his eyes at Ling Ruonan.
"Of course!"
