Chapter 3: Quite

"I hope I am not too late." He said, the air felt thick with tension. Behind him, Selene and Vess struggled to keep up, their shouts lost in the rush of his focus.

’Was he always that fast?’ Vess thought.

He couldn’t let Luna ruin everything. If she told the elder that he was a hero summoned by Ariadne—one who had rejected her divine blessing—it could unravel his plans to stay off the goddesses’ radar.

With the promotional exam driving competition among the deities, that information was a spark that could ignite a firestorm. Alecia, the goddess of love worshipped by the elder, might see him as a tool, a threat, or a prize.

He wanted none of it.

He skidded to a halt outside the large hut, its wooden frame adorned with carvings of flowers and vines—symbols of Alecia’s domain. The door was ajar, and voices drifted out. Luna’s sharp tone cut through the murmur, followed by the calm, measured response of an older woman. His stomach tightened.

’She’s already talking.’

Bursting through the door, he took in the scene: Luna sat across from the elder at a small table, her hands gesturing animatedly. The elder, a silver-haired woman with piercing blue eyes, looked up at him with mild surprise. Herbs hung from the walls, filling the air with a earthy scent, but he barely noticed.

His focus locked on Luna.

"Luther?" She frowned, rising to her feet. "What’s wrong?"

"We need to leave. Now," he said, his voice low and urgent. He shot her a look that screamed shut up, hoping she’d catch on.

The elder tilted her head, studying him. "Trouble, you say? What kind?"

He hesitated, searching for a way out that wouldn’t tip his hand. "Some people... are looking for us. It’s not safe here."

Luna’s frown deepened. "But I was just telling the elder about—"

"About what?" he snapped, cutting her off. His heart raced. ’What did she say? Fuck, this is stressing me out.’

The elder’s gaze sharpened. "About the Void Render you defeated. And your... unique abilities." Her tone was probing, as if she sensed there was more beneath the surface.

He cursed inwardly.

Luna had already spilled something, but maybe not the worst of it. "What exactly did you tell her?" he asked, forcing his voice to stay calm.

She crossed her arms, clearly confused by his intensity. "Just that you are the one who defeated the monster. I didn’t even get that much of a chance to speak as the elder was the one telling me about the history of this place."

’So all is fine?’ He thought, his senses still telling him that something was no right. "Ok, but we should go, we need to get to our destination, remember?" He wanted her to get the hint but it was not clear if she was acting dumb or if she really was just dumb.

The elder’s eyes flickered between them, her voice soft but commanding. "You seem... unsettled, young man. Is there something else you’re not telling me?"

His grip tightened on his sword’s hilt, though he kept his face neutral. "Just a traveler passing through," he said with a shrug. "Nothing special."

Luna, still missing the tension, piped up, "Oh, but Luther, you were amazing! The way you—"

"Luna," he cut in sharply, "we need to go. Now."

She blinked, finally catching the edge in his voice. "Alright, alright. Let’s get moving."

As they turned to leave, the elder spoke again, her words stopping them cold. "Wait a moment, young ones. Before you depart, I must ask—have you considered the implications of your actions?"

He paused, his back to her. "What do you mean?"

"The Void Render’s defeat will not go unnoticed," she said, her tone heavy with implication. "There are those who would seek to understand how a mere traveler could accomplish such a feat."

He turned slowly, meeting her gaze. "I’m not looking for attention."

The elder smiled faintly. "Sometimes, attention finds us whether we seek it or not. Be cautious, ’Luther’."

His eyes narrowed. ’Does she know more than she’s letting on? Should I just end her right now?...no, that will just make things worse.’ "I’ll keep that in mind," he replied curtly.

With a final nod, he ushered Luna out of the hut, his mind racing. The elder’s cryptic warning echoed in his head, a reminder that his rejection of Ariadne’s blessing and his growing reputation could draw unwanted scrutiny—especially with the goddesses’ rivalries heating up.

Vess finally caught up, her expression grim. "Man, this body needs some working on. Oh, hi Luna." She was sweating and looked like she was about to collapse.

"Come on granny, we should get moving." He began running again.

"OH COME ON, DO YOU WANT TO KILL ME!! AND DON’T CALL ME GRANNY, I AM JUST 30 YEARS OLD DAMMIT!!!!" She shouted, struggling to keep up once again, but this time way worse than before.

They found selene ahead, talking to someone he immediately recognized. ’no time for this shit.’ He didn’t stop and ran past them without even sparing them a glance. After they left the area, Selene looked at the girl, "what was that all about?"

The girl just shrugged and walked off, showing a smile that Selene could not see. ’Soon little hero, I will have you soon.’

Selene watched on in the direction they went, his question still lingering in her mind.

---

"Hah hah hah, ok, I think its about time you start-"

"What the fuck where you thinking, are you trying to get us killed!?" He snapped, grabbing her by the wrist, his eyes fully glowing.

Luna was however not impressed, "Let. Me. Go." Her tone suggested she was not going to repeat herself but just like her, Luther was not intimidated by her.

"Oh yeah? Or what? You are going-" She punched him away but he easily recovered his balance, wiping the little blood that escaped his lips. He wanted to punch her so badly but at the same time, he saw it as pointless.

"You know what, I quite this little group of yours." He looked at Vess, "sorry but-" Before he could finish, Luna instantly appeared in front of him and punched him away, this time harder, causing him to crush into a building.

"You... WHO THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? YOU ARE THE REASON WE ARE HERE, YOU RUINED MY LIFE, IF IT WAS NOT FOR YOU, I WOULD STILL BE AT MY TARVEN. SO WHAT THE DO YOU MEAN YOU FUCKING QUITE, DO YOU THINK THE WORLD REVOLVES AROUND YOU?" She appeared in front of him and began punching him over and over.

"YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO QUITE-" Her angered was cut off as Luther suddenly grabbed her punch, the look in his eyes deadly. His mana went from yellow to black and she immediately jumped back. ’...’ she looked at her hand, noticing how her mana was being drained.

Her eyes shifted back to him, his face covered in blood but he didn’t say a word. He just stared at her and began walking towards her, calmly, very calmly.
