The Wrong Hero Has Been Summoned -
Chapter 2: Lore
Chapter 2: Lore
"The hell is wrong with this chick?" Luther thought, dodging a kick that came too close to his face. He jumped back some more, refusing to counter for some reason.
Seeing this, she pressed her advantage, increasing her speed to the point where he was barely blocking her attacks. "What’s wrong? show me that fighting style you used on Jungo." Her kick finally connected, sending him crushing into a wall.
She walked up to him like a model, "are you not attacking since I am a girl?" She raised her leg, "I expected more from you." She brought it down on him, full force but at the last second, he grabbed her leg, picked her up and swung her hard into the wall.
"I don’t have time for games." His eyes were glowing with mana as he jumped onto a building and ran off.
The girl got up seconds later, completely unharmed. "Mmm, he is the one."
He continued running while looking for Luna but even after 20 minutes, she was nowhere in sight. "For fucks sake, where is she?" He stopped at a rundown building, way worse than the others. "just what happened here for this place to be like this?"
"Purging war." Selene appeared behind him. "Sorry, I saw you running earlier and decided to follow you."
"Oh, how was your meeting with the elder?" He sat down.
"It went well, she was happy the last void render was killed, all thanks to you." She sat next to him, offering him some bread filled with bread, which he took and nodded.
"I am guessing that monster is related to what happened here?"
"Yeah, it was a long time ago. All sections were equal during one point but that all changed when the 1st void render showed up. You see, the one you killed was very weakened, that’s why it was so obsessed with mana. If it were at full strength, none of us would have left that place alive. " She took a bite from her bread, looking up at the sky.
"Absorbing mana is not its only power. It also has the power to corrupted and once you are infected, you are good as dead. Not only will your internal systems die but you will fall under its control."
She looked at him, her eyes serious. "The void render is a serious threat. It’s not just a monster - it’s something that can destroy entire sections."
He listened carefully, munching on the bread. "Tell me more about these sections and this war you mentioned."
She took a deep breath. "Long ago, all sections were peaceful. But when the first void render appeared, everything changed. It could corrupt people, taking control of their bodies and minds. The sections started fighting each other, thinking the other sections were the enemy."
"And the monster I killed was just a weakened version?" He asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Yes."
"So I am guessing your section lost and that’s why you are all in this state. So the sections still see each other as enemies because if not then why are they not helping you rebuild?"
"They saw an opportunity to raise in power and they took it. Why would you help someone when they have the potential to reach your level?" She stood up, "come with me, let me show you the borders."
"see those big metal walls that reach high up into the sky?"
"Yeah?"
"Those are border walls, each section has them and they separate us. Most people are born and die without even seeing how the other side looks." They jumped onto a building and they got a view of the huge doors with no people around except guards but these guards didn’t look normal at all.
"And those gates are the only way in and out. Its not too hard to enter other sections. You just have to pay 100 gold coins which is more than what people earn here in a lifetime. Pretty messed up huh?" He turned to her, seeing the sad look in her eyes.
"You want to leave this place?" Hearing this she tensed and locked at him awkwardly.
"Kinda? I was raised here my entire life, Iwant to see what other areas look like."
"Hmmm. do you want to come with us?" She looked at him, wondering if he was joking but there was no sign of him playing around.
She bit her lip, the answer she wanted to give verses the right answer, which was the correct option. "D0 you... do you really mean it? About me coming with you?"
"of course. We are planning to leave soon in fact."
She struggled with her feelings. She wanted to leave so badly, but years of living in her broken section made her hesitate. He looked at her, waiting patiently.
"I... I don’t know," she said softly. "This is the only home I’ve ever known."
He shrugged. "It’s just an offer. Think about it."
Just then, Vess came running back. "Luther! I can’t find Luna anywhere. Something feels wrong."
Selene’s ears perked up. "Oh, you have been looking for Luna? I know where she is."
"You do? Where?"
"I left her with the elder."
"Huh, why is she there?"
"I don’t know, she just showed up saying she wants to speak to the elder."
’It can’t be.’ He looked at her, "does your elder worship any gods?"
"Yes, she worships the goddess of love, Alecia. Why, is something wrong?"
’crap. Luna does not know the goddesses are having a promotional exam. If she goes around blubbering information about me being a hero, especially one that rejected a divine gift... fuck.’
"Where...where is this elder located!?" He grabbed her tightly by the shoulders.
"Ouch, ok, I will show you." She began running, ’what’s the matter with him?’ She quickly led them to where the elder is. A place that not just anyone is allowed. Since they were with her, they quickly passed the gates.
"The elder is in that big hut over there-"
He zoomed past her at full speed, "please don’t tell me she opened her mouth."
