Chapter 26: Vs Ice Pt.2
The ice wolf lunged at Luther, faster than something that size should move. Its jaws clamped around his arm, and even through his armor, he felt the intense cold burning his skin.
He grunted in pain but didn’t pull away. Instead, he drove his free fist into the wolf’s head, again and again. Cracks appeared in the ice, but the beast held on.
’Fuck, my arm is breaking.’
From behind the wolf, Korg formed an ice spear and hurled it at his exposed chest. He twisted at the last second, but the spear still grazed his side, tearing through armor and flesh.
"One down," Korg said, already forming another spear.
The ice wolf’s teeth sank deeper, sending waves of pain through his arm. Blood trickled down into the snow gathering at his feet. The audience gasped, many standing to get a better view of this brutal turn in the match.
"Let go!" He roared, slamming his fist into the wolf’s head once more. This time, the ice cracked loudly, and the beast’s jaw loosened just enough.
He wrenched his arm free, bits of his armor falling away to reveal bloody flesh underneath. Without pausing, he spun to face Korg, just in time to see another ice spear flying toward him.
Instead of dodging, he caught the spear with his injured arm. Pain shot through him, but his grip remained firm. Using the momentum, he spun around and threw it back at its creator.
Korg’s eyes widened in surprise. He tried to shift into water form, but the spear moved too fast. It pierced his shoulder, pinning him briefly to the arena wall behind him.
"My own spear?" He gasped, looking at Luther with new respect and fear. "How did you—"
Luther didn’t let him finish. He charged forward, his mana pulsing visibly now, yellow light highlighting his silhouette. The ice wolf lunged to intercept him, but he met it head-on, driving his fist straight into its head. The beast shattered into thousands of glittering shards.
Korg pulled the spear from his shoulder with a grunt of pain. Blood soaked the left side of his clothing, but he wasn’t finished yet. His eyes glowed blue as he drew on his deepest reserves of power.
"Enough playing around," he growled. "Blizzard Domain!"
The entire arena floor froze instantly. The air filled with swirling snow, reducing visibility to just a few feet. The temperature plummeted so quickly that members of the audience cried out in shock.
Luther stood his ground, the snow settling on his shoulders and hair. His breath came out in thick white clouds. He couldn’t see Korg anymore, but he could feel his presence.
"Can’t hit what you can’t see!" Korg’s voice echoed from somewhere in the blizzard.
A spike of ice shot up from the ground beneath his feet. He jumped just in time, but another appeared where he landed, slicing into his leg. He stumbled but remained standing.
"This is my domain now," Korg’s voice came from a different direction. "I control everything within it."
More ice spikes erupted around him, forcing him to dance and dodge continuously. One caught his already injured arm, deepening the wound. Another grazed his cheek, leaving a thin line of blood that quickly froze on his skin.
From the sidelines, Luna and the others watched in growing concern.
"He’s being overwhelmed," Selene said, her hands clenched into fists.
Vess nodded grimly. "Korg’s not just strong—he’s smart. This blizzard gives him all the advantages."
Luther stopped moving. He stood perfectly still, his eyes closed, seemingly giving up. The audience murmured in confusion.
"Has he surrendered?" The announcer’s voice was barely audible over the howling wind.
Within the swirling snow, Korg laughed. "Smart move, giving up before I turn you into a pincushion."
He stepped closer, forming a massive ice sword in his hands. "But I think I’ll finish this properly."
Luther remained motionless, his breathing slow and controlled despite the biting cold. As Korg approached, ready to deliver the final blow, Luther’s eyes snapped open. They had a new light, dark, almost like a demon but that like disappeared instantly.
"Found you," he said softly.
Before Korg could react, Luther moved with impossible speed. His fist connected with Korg’s stomach with such force that the ice master’s feet left the ground. The blow sent him flying backward, crashing through his own ice spikes.
’Just a little more, don’t push too hard.’ He told himself as he channeled mana through his body.
He followed, pushing through the blizzard as if it were nothing more than a gentle breeze. His mana flared brighter, melting the snow around him, creating a clear path wherever he walked.
"H-how?" Korg gasped, struggling to his feet. "No one can move freely in my blizzard!"
"Your domain is impressive," he replied calmly. "But its just a blizzard man, if the user is not strong, then what’s the point."
He reached down and touched the frozen arena floor. Yellow mana spread outward from his fingers like cracks in glass. Suddenly, the entire blizzard domain shuddered. The swirling snow slowed, then stopped completely, hanging suspended in mid-air.
In the stands, the demon leader stood up in shock.
"He’s nullifying the domain," he whispered. "No, something else is going on here." He looked closer, studying the mana signatures but he could still not tell what was going on.
On the other hand, the demon girl continued watching, very happy at how things were going.
Korg stared in disbelief as his domain collapsed around him. The suspended snowflakes fell harmlessly to the ground, and the temperature began to rise.
"What are you?" He asked, backing away.
Luther didn’t answer. He simply walked forward, his mana now flowing visibly around his fists.
Korg tried one last desperate move. He transformed his entire body into water, planning to escape and reform at a safer distance. But as his liquid form spread across the arena floor, Luther slammed his palm down onto the ground.
"Freeze," he commanded.
To everyone’s shock, including Korg’s, the water instantly crystallized into ice. Luther had used Korg’s own element against him.
The stadium went silent at what they had just witnessed. How was he using Korg’s element? Even the demon girl was shocked, not even she was prepared for that. But despite everyone being shocked, Luther just smiled.
"Finally got a handle on it." He exhaled, his breath coming out cold.
The crowd erupted in cheers as they watched him standing over the partially frozen Korg. The ice master struggled, his upper body still in human form while his lower half remained frozen solid.
"What... how did you use my element?" Korg gasped, his face twisted in disbelief.
He smiled, flexing his fingers as a thin layer of frost formed around them. "I learn fast."
Korg roared in frustration, slamming his fists into the ice that trapped him. Cracks formed, and with a surge of blue mana, he broke free. He stumbled backward, breathing heavily.
"You think copying a bit of ice magic makes you my equal?" He snarled, gathering his remaining strength. "I was born in the frozen peaks! I’ve mastered ice for twenty years!"
Luther didn’t respond. He simply watched, his stance relaxed but ready.
Korg formed two ice blades, one in each hand, and charged forward with surprising speed for someone so injured. His blades whistled through the air as he slashed at him from multiple angles.
But Luther moved like water, each step precise and efficient. It was almost laughable how easily he was dodging the attacks.
"Predictable," he muttered, ducking under a horizontal slash.
As Korg’s momentum carried him forward, he grabbed his wrist and twisted, applying pressure to a specific point. The ice blade dropped from his suddenly numb fingers.
"What the—"
He didn’t let him finish. He delivered a perfectly executed palm strike to Korg’s chest, sending him staggering backward. The crowd gasped at the display of technical skill.
Korg recovered quickly, his remaining ice blade transforming into a long spear. He thrust it forward with deadly precision, aiming for Luther’s heart. Killing was not allowd but Korge was becoming desperate.
Instead of dodging, he held out his hand and stopped the spear mid air. He closed his hand, crushing it into many pieces.
"Let me show you how to use your power." He formed his own ice spear and threw it in the air.
He jumped, his body rotating in a perfect 540-degree spin kick. His foot connected with the spear mid-air, launching it toward Korg with incredible speed and precision.
"Impossible!" He tried to form an ice shield, but he was too slow.
The spear pierced through his hastily formed defense, embedding itself in his shoulder. He cried out in pain, dropping to one knee.
"Give up." He landed, forming more spears. "You can’t beat me, you wasted your chance already."
Korg looked at him, very pissed and in pain. He looked up at the watchers and back at Luther. ’I can’t win...’ He decided that this was his end. "I give-" before he could finish, something strange happened. His body twitch and his aura completely changed.
’It’s that feeling again, what’s going on now?’ He thought as he watched Korg, his senses on high alert. ’Something dangerous is coming.’
"KWAHAHAHAHA!!! NOW THIS IS MORE LIKE IT, COME, HUMAN, SHOW ME MORE OF THAT POWER OF YOURS." Korg vanished and instantly appeared in front of him, piercing his stomach, he couldn’t even react, at all.
"You are coming with me."
