Chapter 934: Chapter 482: The Law of the Heretics under the Unification of Law and Religion_2

Ivita sighed. "It’s no wonder you have the unique ability to stand independently from the Empire with your own law. I fought against old veterans from your kingdom’s Black Feet Army in Ambros. The Seed of Life of the Witch’s Nemesis impressed me deeply."

Hearing Ivita say this, the two young men’s eyes flickered, hesitating several times as if wanting to speak but stopping themselves.

Ivita said, "Not to hide it from you, my goal is the Doomsday Volcano. Because of some special reasons, I’m at war with the Frankish people, and I need to reach the Doomsday Volcano within a day. If you two follow me, you can help me hide my identity and share some of the burdens. But it’s dangerous, and I can’t guarantee your lives, so whether you want to continue following me is up to you."

The two young men were once again choked by their own feelings of inferiority.

Ivita herself still had a country to protect; how could she possibly focus her attention on them, a nation that had already been destroyed?

The two men followed Ivita. Dave said, "Your Majesty, you saved my life. I am willing to help you. I have gotten used to seeing heartlessness in people; I don’t want to be like those Raven People."

Jace also followed. "Your Majesty, wherever you go, I will go."

The three of them walked for another two hours. At this point, they were very close to the Doomsday Volcano, having reached the base of it. The ground beneath their feet was reddish-black.

It was extremely barren, filled with fire poison in the soil, which prevented any plant from growing. Even organisms that stayed here too long would become contaminated and their bodies mutated by the fire poison.

’Doomsday Volcano... Under this volcano lies a law, likely a remnant from the Ancient Civilization Period when many universal laws were shattered,’ Ivita, using divination magic, divined the past and suddenly saw a vision—

Above the sky, something shattered. A fragment fell from the sky, crashing hard onto the earth below.

The law fragment seemed to have been destroyed by some powerful energy, reversing its properties. This damaged law fragment gradually evolved into an active volcano. Anything that fell into the volcano would be destroyed, leading to its name, the Doomsday Volcano.

’So it is a damaged law fragment. To the law, being damaged doesn’t mean it is useless; it just means its order is disrupted, but the energy is still there, forming a land of destruction.’ Ivita realized. ’This land of destruction has interfered with the Raven Rules that came later, causing the country to be weak and eventually shattered by foreign enemies.’

’But what was the power that completely ruined parts of the universal law? There’s some power from the Black Death in it, but there are other forces too.’ Ivita shook her head, not delving into that problem for the moment. She was now at the foot of the Doomsday Volcano. She just needed to climb it.

However, there were too many law auras entwined around her. If she climbed the mountain, she might be targeted. Those Frankish people really knew how to trouble her.

But the target was most likely not herself, but rather Jalen.

Ivita heard a succession of hoofbeats near her, looked toward the distance, and saw a group of heretics with bandanas on their heads, wielding scimitars, riding towards them. Some of the heretics were humans, some were beastmen.

Ivita’s eyes flickered; killing these people would only take one glance, but they were all protected by heretic laws.

Doing so would expose her to the heretic laws.

The heretics rode past Ivita and the others. Suddenly, the leader pulled back on his reins, sizing up Ivita and her companions before displaying a look of disdain. "Three refugees."

"They don’t even have a weapon on them, and two aren’t even dressed properly, these primitive people of the heretics. Don’t worry, they are not rebels. These poor souls don’t even have anything valuable on them. We are people of the scriptures; we won’t mistreat these destitute folks."

The young heretic noble, Sheikh, scanned over Ivita and her companions, his gaze lingering on Jace, who looked the oldest. "Have you decided to change your religion and submit to our beliefs, revering the Emperor of our country?"

"If you do so, you won’t have to be refugees in the wilderness anymore. Hahaha..."

"Quick, say that you believe in our god, revering our Emperor."

Jace opened his mouth, his expression somewhat panicked, and though his reason urged him to tell lies, certain emotions within him prevented him from uttering even a single syllable.

He stared at the gleaming scimitar before his eyes, filled with immense fear.

What should he do?

He looked towards Ivita.

Ivita frowned, deducing that the heretics probably wanted to use this method to subsume the Raven Rules under their own Law.

However, one thing he did not understand was why the Law of the heretics appeared to be highly connected with their faith in the Spirit.

Ivita directly asked the dozen heretics, "Gentlemen, why do your Law and your faith appear to be so highly unified?"

Sheikh’s eyes lit up; he did not care about Ivita’s disrespectful address but was rather pleased, as he told Ivita about their faith and their Law.

In this era, the heretics were far more devout and enthusiastic about their faith than the nations of the Magic Black Forest.

Sheikh the Noble eloquently said to Ivita, "Because our Law is superior to yours. We are people of the scriptures, which not only recount our faith but also serve as guidelines for our way of life, the laws among our people, and the laws between this heaven, earth, and us."

"Our scriptures are the Law."

"Our Law is our faith. Those who live by the Law are honoring the God of All Beasts. Our god—Law—Empire is highly unified, inseparable, and more powerful than any Law from your history, including that of the Ancient Civilization Period."

Ivita sighed inwardly. It seemed that indeed, the heretics’ Law had its distinct features. However, considering the history of the heretics he knew, their universal Law had already collapsed and fragmented.

The present Law of the heretics was also a revival, similar to the universal Law of the Holy Empire, only somewhat more vibrant.

’The heretics have merged Law and religion into one, benefiting and strengthening both, which is indeed formidable. The Law thereby becomes more robust, almost immutable. With their religion growing strong with the power of the Law, it has a tremendous ability to spread. Their secular and religious powers merged into one, extraordinarily powerful. However, this ties the Law to the religion, and it might be difficult to progress in the future.’ Ivita judged, ’This is definitely not the way forward for Law.’

’They have taken the wrong path.’

’They seem powerful now, but who can say who will be stronger several hundred years from now. I wonder why I think of this when the nations of the Magic Black Forest need to survive the onslaught of the heretics’ Law first.’

Suddenly, Sheikh the Noble laughed coldly from horseback. "You ignorant heretics will one day voluntarily change your faith and the emperor you worship. I’m not in a hurry."

"Let’s go."

"Once these people convert, they will no longer pay taxes. Perhaps letting them stick to their faith is not a bad idea. We still have to search that mountain over there, hurry up."

Seeing them leave, Ivita breathed a sigh of relief, grateful that he didn’t have to kill these people now.

He looked towards the two very nervous ex-Madmans.

Jace guiltily said to Ivita, "Your Majesty, I’m sorry, I didn’t want to trouble you, it’s just... it’s just... I really couldn’t say it."

Ivita didn’t mind. "It doesn’t matter, this merely shows that you are a person of good character. Let’s go to the Doomsday Volcano."
