Chapter 916: Chapter 473 Fire Dragon Law and Dragon Flame Great Castle_2
If it were not for the advancement of Ivita’s spatial magic and the acquisition of the Dark Soul, he feared he could hardly move more than a hundred meters using spatial magic in this mountainous region.
With just one thought, behind Ivita appeared the Two Souls Three Realms. Empowered by these, he unleashed powerful spatial magic, instantly evading the constraints of the Dragon Fire and moving at a high speed towards the Royal Capital.
As he moved, each time he neared a castle or fortress in the mountainous region, there was a reaction in the central furnace’s Dragon Fire within them, and the Dragon Fire started to dim.
This caused most of the Dragon Fire in the entire southern Alsacian military district’s fortress cluster to be suppressed by the magic fluctuations Ivita released as he passed, leaving the troops of the entire southern military district anxious, thinking they were under attack from enemies.
When they fully armed and appeared atop the walls, they found no one outside, and the momentum that had just been gathered by the soldiers dissipated immediately.
The commander of the southern mountain military district of Alsace, General Mostos, walked over to a witch who had failed to create a Soul of Darkness beside the central castle furnace, the Furnace Witch. His expression softened slightly as he looked at the burns from the Dragon Fire on her body. "Why, in such a short time, did all the Dragon Fire react, some castles’ Dragon Fire even actively attacked, shooting flames into the barren wilds?"
"Those flames burned down the forest trees but found not a single enemy."
"You are the guardian witch, and also the leader of the witch group in the southern district. You should be able to interpret this. If someone passed through our cluster of fortresses, why did you not act to stop them? It is evident that the person used magic, yet your witch group did nothing. Even for the witch group, violating military laws must be dealt with."
The Furnace Witch let out a cold laugh. "Lord Mostos, you very well know the answer, yet you ask me. If there’s an issue, the blame cannot escape the district leader, which is you, not me."
"I’m merely an advisor to your army."
"What am I to your army? Whenever you gain merit, you don’t think of me, but come looking for me when there’s trouble. The wizard that just passed is a legitimate Wizard Marquis. You should also know who it is; he is the son of the king your father served all his life, the legitimate king of Alsace. What do you achieve pitting yourself against the legitimate king of Alsace with all your efforts?"
Mostos’s expression turned extremely ugly. "So, he went to the Royal Capital."
"He certainly went to the Royal Capital alone. What he is planning to do, you don’t suppose he means harm to Louis XIII!"
"Furnace Witch, you are utterly reckless for not reacting at all. He... no, this Lord is a Wizard Marquis, and aren’t you somewhat a Witch Marquis? You should have at least tried to stop him!"
The Furnace Witch coughed a few times, and black smoke actually appeared from her throat. "Stop joking. Without even comparing our magic, just by merely observing from afar, I can tell the gap between us. How could I dare to hinder him?"
"I also advise you not to report this. Wise people often hedge their bets."
"If you report now, you might not only gain no merit but the higher-ups in the Royal Capital might think you’re trying to steal their thunder."
"You’d better pretend you didn’t notice anything right now, especially since no one else will think you knew anything as long as I don’t speak of it."
The Furnace Witch sneered, "Should that Lord actually triumph in the end, you will at least still have a token to offer."
After hearing her, Mostos actually stopped in his tracks, thought for a moment, then suddenly sighed. "It’s a disgrace for an officer to fail to protect his country. But my family has served the Alsace Family for generations, and Lord Ivita is the true king I am loyal to."
"Nevertheless."
"Caught between loyalty and righteousness, I choose to act as though I know nothing today."
Mostos abandoned the idea of igniting the border Dragon Fire to notify the troops inside the Royal Capital, and the Furnace Witch laughed dryly. "That’s right, less is sometimes more. I think these days we just passively resist along with the officers the central government dispatched. After all, this is merely a civil war within the royal family; why should we bother?"
"For homeland defense, our soldiers and we can convince ourselves to fight for our own homes, but this kind of war, we merely need to watch from the sidelines."
...
Ivita had finally reached the Royal Capital of Alsace. In the darkness of night, the city was brightly lit, flames seemingly perpetually burning at every corner of the city walls.
These were no ordinary flames, but Dragon Flames.
Next to the Royal Capital, deep in a mountain range, lay a vast Dragon Fire Lake, keeper of the Dragon Fire Law which symbolized the laws that governed the land of Alsace.
Ivita’s Boundary-breaking Bronze Boat was stopped outside the city walls by the Dragon Fire Law.
If he attempted to force his way through with Spatial Magic, it would trigger the Dragon Fire Law to transform the flames into a swarm of Red Dragons, blocking his entry.
"As expected of a kingdom-level law, its defense even surpasses that of the Iron Crown," Ivita remarked. "This Dragon Flame is drastically different from the Thousand-Year Fire in nature, better at destruction, and it also seems to contain countless human desires."
Ivita noticed at a glance that the flames burning in the nearby Dragon Fire Lake were fueled by numerous human desires, greedy and despicable traits.
These things kept the Dragon Flame eternally lit.
Ivita landed on the ground, looking towards the Holy Mother Convent in the suburbs outside the city. The moment he touched down on Alsacian soil, Ivita felt an animosity from the Dragon Fire Law targeted at him, but this hostility disappeared as quickly as it had come, as if it had never been there.
"That hostility was instilled into the law by Jalen," Ivita realized as he walked on the farmland outside the majestic Royal City. "If I weren’t the legitimate King of Alsace, with rightful inheritance, the Dragon Fire Law might have transformed into Red Dragons to attack me upon arrival, an action that would draw the attention of all high-level professionals and the army within the city. However, since this is a civil war, the Dragon Fire Law even showed little reaction to my arrival."
Only then did Ivita understand why nations favored supporting heirs to thrones, aiming for their own agendas.
With the support of these heirs, deploying troops into other countries could avoid being attacked by the law of that nation.
Hence, the rights of inheritance and legal standing are extremely important.
Ivita looked towards the Royal City, where surprisingly there were no fifth or sixth-grade high-level professionals.
This was enough to show just how weakened Jalen’s seemingly strong rule had become.
He looked in the direction of the only professionals who could draw his attention, coincidentally also towards the convent. "I see, a Knight Marquis, a witch who failed at creating a Soul of Darkness."
"These are probably the strongest professionals Jalen can control."
Ivita kept his composure, for he could not enter the city to kill Jalen outright. As long as he stayed out of the city, the Dragon Fire Law scarcely reacted to him, but if he tried to enter, it would immediately attack him in full force.
Previously, when he had forcibly crossed the military area, the Dragon Flame furnaces inside various castles also tried to stop him, simply because that military area was not meant to be traversed.
Just like the current city, he could not enter.
Ivita stood outside the convent, enveloped the entire convent and all the people inside with his Bronze Boat, and transferred them to the corresponding Phase Space, away from their original primary location plane. "Ladies and gentlemen, I heard Jalen is quite hospitable, having kept you here against your will while your parents, siblings, and husbands asked me to bring you home. The guards give me, King Ivita, a bit of face, and don’t make this difficult for me. I do not wish to stain my hands with Alsacian blood."
The noblewomen and young ladies inside the convent were extremely surprised, yet the guards were all pale, especially the Knight Marquis and the witch, who were sweating profusely and staring in terror at the strange space outside the convent.
