Chapter 753: Chapter 398 Sacred Crown_2
"She attacked me and fled with her daughter. After that, she and her descendants have been returning to the library at specific times when I’m in deep sleep, borrowing books from the basement, and refining their magic."
"Later on, I vaguely discovered that she had established a religion to gather civilians and even nobility who wanted to resist the Iron Crown. I just didn’t expect that once she no longer needed the magic books in the basement, she actually ordered someone to set fire here. Subsequently, the Thousand-year Grand Library was destroyed all because of her."
Ivita listened to the Dictionary Elf’s heartfelt lament on the side, and as she looked at the more than ten thousand books on the shelves, she was at a loss for words.
Most of the magic books here are almost just for apprentices to look at, and many are of a leisurely nature.
Unexpectedly, the Sun God Sect valued these books so much in the early stages that their foundation was even laid with the help of these magic books.
Ivita continued to question: "While confronting the Sun God Sect, I discovered their immunity power. Since their gods were nothing more than creations of a tiny little dictionary elf like you, it’s evident that their immunity spells, physical and even Evil Qi attacks must have been found in these books."
"Moreover, they seem to be doing something terrifying with the Iron Crown’s heir candidates. Do you recall any of these?"
The Dictionary Elf clung tightly to its own being and told Ivita fearfully: "These aren’t within my responsibilities. There are more than thirteen thousand books here. You can read them at your leisure."
"You should gain something by reading them all. But let me remind you, don’t blame me if you age in the process. As per Shaw’s rules, you can only proceed to the next level or exit once you’ve read all thirteen thousand plus books."
Fearing that Ivita would vent her anger on it and its true form, the Dictionary Elf had long distanced itself.
In its eyes, Ivita was likely to spend a year or two here.
She needed to memorize every single word, without error.
In its opinion, if Ivita had poor luck, she’d probably spend a few years trapped in the first floor itself.
However, the thought of staying with such a fierce and terrifying human for years made the innocent Dictionary Elf shudder, it was terrified, and it felt that its future was in darkness.
Ivita glanced coldly at the Dictionary Elf.
She had already prepared herself for such a situation.
If she hadn’t possessed Light Soul, this would have indeed been a trap for her.
However, Light Soul could establish Idealism, and knowledge is experience. With experience, phenomena can be influenced. Hence using Light Soul to acquire knowledge is a highly efficient method.
Ivita closed her eyes.
The Dictionary Elf paused. Did this wizard intend to read books without even opening her eyes?
Using two hundred Hands of Mana, Ivita lifted two hundred books. Her Light Soul was simultaneously spread over them, quickly analyzing and decoding their contents, then using Light Soul, she recorded it internally within her Soul Heavenly Palace and Light Soul itself. "Reading with the eyes is way too slow."
With eyes still closed, Ivita said: "This is much faster."
Forty minutes later, Ivita had finished reading two hundred books.
Then, amidst the Dictionary Elf’s wide-open eyes, she once again used her Light Soul to simultaneously read through two hundred magic books.
The Dictionary Elf sat in the corner of the bookshelf and wiped the sweat off its forehead. "Is this human’s Light Soul a perpetual motion machine?"
"Normal wizards should be conserving energy. Such usage would’ve exhausted them already."
"But if she continues this way, she’ll finish all the books here in a few days. No, she certainly won’t last long with this method. She might have to start reading with her eyes any moment now."
But the entire following day, Ivita continued to flip books using her Light Soul.
After two days, Ivita sat on the floor stretching, "I’ve never spent so much time just sitting and reading books. Ah, it reminds me of my school days."
Ivita looked towards the Dictionary Elf on the bookshelf and said, "I’ve finished reading all 13,000 books."
"And I know, where the Sun God Sect’s immunity to damage comes from."
"Hmm, that’s a freak born from the rituals in more than a dozen books. The founder of the Sun God Sect you took in, that woman, she was quite clever."
"What’s wrong with you?"
The Dictionary Elf, still holding its own form, stared blankly at Ivita. So entranced it was that it even dropped the dictionary, its physical form, on the ground.
"Two days, 13,000 books, you remember them all?"
Ivita nodded as she thought, "To prevent forgetting, I wrote them down twice — once in my Soul Heavenly Palace, and once in my Light Soul. Honestly, if these were ordinary books, I certainly wouldn’t have spent so much time reading. But because they’re all magic books, understanding them is quite difficult, even for more beginner magic books and biographies of magical figures."
An air of a scholar accompanied Ivita. "I now understand why I had to read all 13,000 of these books. These books seem simple, and indeed, only apprentices read them, but not one of them is repeated, and not one of them was not meticulously written."
"I even grew to understand three ancient languages while reading."
"And mastered many common facts of ancient magic. I also realized that the magic used by the Sun God Sect is not advanced at all. Ancient magic is not only inseparable from medicine but also from rites and elixirs."
"The ceremonies they use are actually very primitive sacrificial rituals. The side effects are extreme, and the damage to the body and soul can make people who use these imperfect ancient sacrificial rituals slowly turn into insane beasts, just like the false desert gods they crafted."
The Dictionary Elf stared at Ivita in shock.
It seemed to be holding onto hope as it asked dozens of questions, but Ivita’s fluid and fluent responses caused it to despondently sit down on top of its own book body. "I feel... my worldview has collapsed."
"As a Dictionary Elf, I have nothing left to say to you now."
Ivita said to it, "Unfortunately, I didn’t find any information related to Dark Souls and the Witch Marquis in these books. There wasn’t even a mention of the Iron Crown. No, in fact, there’s a book called ’The Heavenly City of the Lord of All Things’ that mentioned a sacred crown like a mountain range, used by the church to select kings."
"Though it refers to the Sacred Crown here, the only crown resembling a mountain range is the Iron Crown."
"But to call the current Iron Crown a Sacred Crown... I can’t believe it."
"Do you know the reason?"
The Dictionary Elf shook its head quickly at Ivita. "I’ve always stayed in the library, so I’m not sure about the outside, but the Iron Crown that woman spoke of is indeed different from the Iron Crown I’m familiar with."
"The territory governed by the Iron Crown Law that I know is at least ten times larger than now."
Ivita said, "To say that the current Iron Crown is a fragment of the past wouldn’t be an exaggeration."
The Dictionary Elf pointed to the library’s first floor, where a staircase that appeared at some unknown time now was. "As long as you read more books in the library, you’ll always know the truth."
"I originally thought that I would see the stairs leading down in a few years. But unexpectedly, it was just two days."
Ivita followed the underground staircase downward. "Hmm. Maybe I can take you with me when I leave the library. You’re quite interesting and useful."
...
On the underground floor of the library, just as the Dictionary Elf let out a sigh of relief after sending Ivita off, a woman in a black robe fell from the sky.
Her first words as she stood up were to the Dictionary Elf: "Long time no see."
"Old friend, you’ve been alone again for a while. I told you, besides me, you have no chance of having any other friends."
"I’m here to borrow books!"
