Chapter 386: Chapter 239 Voodoo Zombie, Cursed Gold, and Terrible Downcasting_1
Ivita was just about to leave the tavern to search for the lost gold from the Black Friday.
The tavern owner clutched his arm, saying, "Where do you think you’re going? You can’t leave, if you do, the black fog will rush in. Everyone here, including your men, will be in danger!"
Ivita glanced at the people in the room. Most of the sailors and captains had already run out of the tavern because of unexplained wounds appearing on their bodies.
Those whom his white magic protected, including the newly recruited Captain Sam, five warriors, a carpenter, a cook, a doctor, two vampires, the Hearthstone Witch, and two knights, all gathered around him. It was because of this protection that they had been able to avoid the black fog.
Ivita said, "This is indeed a problem. If I leave, all of you will be cursed by the Black Friday. Moving within the black fog is extremely inconvenient, and you might all be in danger. But if I don’t go and find the lost gold from the Black Friday, the pirates’ attacks will never stop. So, what should we do now?"
True to its reputation as a legendary pirate ship, its mere appearance had put the entire harbor into a difficult situation.
The enemy was like a sea disaster.
This was already with an entire harbor as his backup, and officials from the Republic of Belisarius trying to resolve the situation. If he encountered this ship alone at sea, it would be an insurmountable foe.
The problem seemed unsolvable.
No wonder the sailors and captains turned pale upon hearing the name of Cross Island.
As Ivita was in a dilemma, the Hearthstone Witch contemplated, "Every magic has its loophole, and sorcery is no exception. Through my observations, I found that the black fog is composed of ghosts. I think the key to this magic should be..."
She extended her hand, and a patch of black fog that was floating in the air was drawn over by her mana. There were actually a few screaming faces visible within the thumb-thick black fog that entered her palm.
The Hearthstone Witch said, "This black fog is made up of aggrieved souls of the deceased. They form the link between the cursed people on the shore and the ship. The curse affects them through this link."
"This link is the key. If we can break it, we can disrupt the curse the Black Friday has placed on at least half of the people in the entire harbor."
"Wait a second, this is Law magic. Sorcery requires at least a high-ranking wizard or a witch to cast!"
Ivita saw another sailor outside the tavern, not far from him, covering his mouth as if he couldn’t breathe.
It looked just like he was drowning, but the problem was - they were on the shore.
He leaned against the wall, desperately reaching out as if trying to grab something. He appealed to the passing crowd for help, but nobody paid him any mind.
Five minutes later, he ended up dead against the wall, like a hanged man.
Elsewhere, the Hearthstone Witch had found a way for Ivita to see the connections established by the spirits in the Black Friday between the ship and the people on the dock. She recited a few incantations towards the fog, then placed in Ivita’s hand the fog she held. Immediately, Ivita began to see several phantoms—
One phantom was in a small cabin at the bottom of the ship, filled with bright red candles;
In another phantom, a knife slashed off the left arm of a straw man, then Ivita saw with his own eyes, the owner of a barbecue shop across the tavern lost his left arm. The spot where the arm broke off was exactly the same as the straw man.
The last phantom he saw was a narrow cabin. Below the suspended corpse of a half-giant figure, stood a naked man covered in brightly colored paint, with only feathers of peacocks and owls as coverings over his private parts.
He randomly picked up a straw man that was on his left. As he did, a black name appeared on the straw man’s belly. He threw the straw man into a basin of water. As it hit the water, it flailed as if it were drowning. Soon enough, it lost all strength to struggle and sank to the bottom of the basin.
Ivita finally understood why some people had drowned on the shore.
The black fog composed of ghosts had formed a curse-channel to every single person who had come into contact with the black fog on the shore.
The black fog connected them to the figure of the straw man in the hands of the wizard. As the wizard set the straw man on fire, drowned it, pricked it, or chopped it to pieces, the same phenomena would happen to the person corresponding to the name appearing on the straw man.
This was the Law magic ’Sorcery,’ a curse from the Demon King Asmoday.
The connection...
The key was to sever the connection formed by the aggrieved souls between the straw men and the people on the dock.
Wait a moment...
Ivita realized that he had ways to deal with this.
He suddenly turned around and looked at the two knights from the House of Persopolis and the Shadow Swords in their hands.
Ivita walked up and took the swords from their hands.
Persopolis asked, "What are you going to do?"
