Chapter 365: Chapter 226: The Treasures of the Ancient World, Goodbye Bronze Mask! (6513)_3
This place was infested with eyeless spiders, centipedes and insects.
In this underground world, sight had become useless.
Ivita looked up and saw a thin red line appear at the top of the cave wall under the illumination of light magic. "Look up, there’s another reason why we are forbidden to use fire magic in here."
"I reckon they are forcing us to use light magic so that we will notice the marking on the cave wall. This marking might be used to guide our path."
The Hearthstone Witch and Wilson nodded in agreement. Otherwise, why would the designer apply light-sensitive paint on the cave wall to draw a line?
Wilson hesitated, then said, "Lord Ivita, actually there has always been a scent of corpses in this cave."
"The smell only comes from one direction. So, I suspect there could be more than one guide marking. However, we do not know if this smell was intentionally used as a marker by the original designer of this tomb."
Ivita responded, "It must have been intentional. Otherwise, how can a corpse remain smelly for thousands of years?"
Wilson paused for a moment, then chuckled, "You’re right. I was overthinking."
Ivita even suspected the previous igniter, who was Anna’s husband, discovered the secret of Thousand-Year Fire through the smell after entering here. This was probable as light magic is a rare magic which neither Ivita nor Hearthstone Witch knew.
If it were not for the Elemental Flower, how could Wilson, the vampire, know such a rare light magic?
Therefore, the former igniter probably did not find the map from the murals.
The ancient container from the Ancient World was likely still buried in its original place. All Ivita needed to do was follow the map to find it.
The three of them followed the red line at the top of the cave. After walking for about 500 meters, they saw some bronze pots, bowls, spoons, and even petrified barbecue grills at a passage. Beside these objects lay a pile of human skeletons.
People actually lived here.
Ivita said to the Hearthstone Witch and Wilson, "These should be the remains of the slaves who dug this passage."
"Huh? What is that?"
In the corner of Ivita’s eye, he noticed two dark objects at the end of the passage that were suddenly charging at him.
Ivita smirked indifferently, bowing his head and twirling the Viscount ring on his middle finger, he didn’t pay much attention to them.
Just at the moment when the two dark fur balls were about to hit Ivita, Vampire Wilson stepped in front of Ivita and grabbed the fur balls with both hands, pushing them ten meters away from Ivita.
Ivita looked at the peculiar fur balls; they slightly resembled a bundle of hair.
"What are those things? They are rather peculiar."
The Hearthstone Witch came over and said, "These are Hair Monsters. They usually arise in places with a large number of corpses. The resentment and the gas of corpses condense without proper church rites, leading to the creation of these strange monsters."
"These creatures are neither dead nor undead but are living. They are spirit energy beings, just a bit negative."
Wilson’s pupils turned into golden-rimmed ink pupils.
Then he roared, and the two hair creatures were squashed by his hands.
As long as the physical strength is strong enough, any spirit energy being can be squashed directly.
Hearthstone Witch said regrettfully, "Even though they are just two low-level spirit energy beings, it’s still kind of a waste to just kill them."
Wilson pulled a handkerchief from his pocket and wiped his hands, "Well, Hair Monsters are almost worthless on the black market."
"What use would you have for them? If you need them, I will save them for you next time."
Hearthstone Witch was about to nod.
Ivita glanced at the Hearthstone Witch, "What? So these things are worth money? If you come across any more later, grab them for me."
Hearthstone Witch’s smile froze.
Wilson was taken aback, these two...surely they couldn’t really be master and disciple, could they?
The three of them continued along the red line, but they did not encounter any more Hair Monsters after that.
They found some manmade grooves in the ground within the passage. Each one was as large as a barrel of wine, and partially filled with something that smelled strongly of wine, but turned black. Black oval limbs of some unidentified creatures lay near these grooves.
It seemed like there had been a short battle here not long ago.
Ivita thought of Pan God. "Pan God has been here! He killed the creatures guarding this place. Let’s move on."
The three of them turned a corner and saw Pan God at the end of a corridor, sitting next to an expressionless stone chair. On that chair, lay a bronze mask.
The bronze mask resembled a ghost face saber tooth, exuding an evil air.
This kind of evil differed from that of demons, the evil of a demon was based on the chaos and distortion of morality, the corruption and decay based on the human heart. The evil this mask emanated seemed more barbaric, bearing the evil power of ancient humans.
