Chapter 362: Chapter 225: Civilization Fire? Corpse Fire? Suspicions_1

Ivita stepped past Milani, questioning the ghostly Francesca, "How many charred bodies did you see under the cemetery?"

"What do these bodies have to do with the Thousand-Year Fire?"

Francesca, the ghost, blankly replied, "Those bodies are the remnants left after being burned by the Thousand-Year Fire, immensely evil and depraved. Could Hugo have completely turned toward the demons after seeing such a thing?!"

"Those bodies are the evidence of the sins left by the Thousand-Year Fire. If you enter the temple, you’ll only see a more vicious Thousand-Year Fire."

"I suggest you not enter the temple."

Francesca suddenly grew furious. She was a ghost, and everything would grow cold when she was deeply grieved.

Hence, a large patch of grass on the lawn instantly withered from the cold.

Francesca asserted, "I know the truth, the Thousand-Year Fire is but a corpse-fire."

"The existence of the cemetery and Kappa Town is surprisingly for the sake of guarding the secret of a corpse-fire."

Enraged, Milani retorted, "Hugo Russo has issues with his character. He is like a person carrying the gene for mental illness. He would succumb to a mental disorder from even the slightest blow in life."

"Hugo Russo is the child of a woman possessed by a demon. He is inherently inclined to depravity; with the smallest blow, he would abandon himself, tend to destroy everyone around him. Moreover, I do not believe the sacred Thousand-Year Fire--the fire of human civilization, needs humans and bodies as firewood. I don’t believe it."

Francesca floated in the air, blankly stating, "Whether you believe it or not, this is the truth."

"Now the Thousand-Year Fire is dying, I suspect it’s due to the lack of sufficient bodies. The corpse-fire makes all of us living people survive as if licking the rotting juice of a corpse. Such a civilization of the Ambros people is better off not existing, better for the great red-shirted sea to return."

Ivita glanced at her, then recalled the past incident when Hugo used the Ashen Man to plot against her, establishing her link with the Thousand-Year Fire. At the time, she had indeed seen, in a few historical fragments, the scenes of many slaves, prisoners of war, and gladiators being sacrificed to the Thousand-Year Fire.

Thus, what Francesca said might not be untrue.

But a question.

Ivita furrowed her brows, "Well then why are the humans of Ambros now at war, so many people have died, the Bohr River has been dyed red."

"Yet the Thousand-Year Fire is increasingly dwindling?"

"Isn’t it very strange? According to Francesca’s words, things should be moving in the opposite direction."

Francesca, suspended in mid-air, opened her mouth but was unable to refute, right, why with so many human bodies now, is the Thousand-Year Fire of civilization gradually extinguishing?

But the horrifying tens of thousands of charred corpses under the cemetery clearly proved that the Thousand-Year Fire has been using humans for sacrifices to maintain its existence.

God Pan had already come down, "If you want to know the reason, you will know once you go inside the temple yourselves. That temple was originally prepared for the Igniter to preserve the secret of the Thousand-Year Fire."

Even Ivita nodded, saying, "We should set off."

Milani glanced at the immobile Francesca and quickly followed Ivita and the others.

Quickly, they passed through Kappa Town, entered the cemetery, then again navigated through a multitude of massive tombstones. Then, amongst a group of great tombstones, they found a rectangular white temple.

This temple was constructed entirely of marble, pure white all over, as if immune to the ravages of time, without a trace of yellowing.

Rows of tall white columns lined the outside of the temple.

On the perimeter of the temple, a more than ten-meter tall statue of a god stood. The statue was free of dust, showing its extraordinariness. On the right arm of this male god’s statue, a line of inscription read - "Not all the dead shall rot in the earth, we shall live forever in flames."

Now when Milani saw that inscription, her head ached and her heart pounded with fear. Before, she didn’t think anything particular when she saw it.

Now she suspected that this line of inscription was subtly hinting at human sacrifice for the Thousand-Year Fire.

Pan God watched the scene with fiery eyes, "This is the place."

Both Pan God and Ivita had arrived before the temple, stepping into the hall. They found the inside of the temple empty, with only a locked bronze door on the floor.

Milani followed them and said, "I’ve looked into the history of this temple and found it predates the graveyard. In other words, this temple might have existed for much longer than the thousand-year-old graveyard."

"I suspect that this temple was constructed during the Ancient Civilization Period."

"The wizard ancestors of the graveyard built it around this temple, just as a city is built around a church. This temple must have been important. The material I have suggests that this temple was opened once, hundreds of years ago, for a certain Igniter."

Ivita thought of Witch Anna’s husband.

He had successfully saved both Ambros and the Thousand-Year Fire, only for the Mortal King of Ambros to pluck his fruit."

Ivita and Pan God then moved to the bronze door within the temple.

The group noticed writing on the bronze door.

Pan God looked down and read, "These are the requirements to open this door, there are three in total, as three is the number belonging to wizards and witches, just as four belongs to the God of All Things."

"1. The Igniter must have gone through a sufficiently intense battle and emerged victorious. This door opens only for victors."

"2. You must be an Igniter, and this door opens only for Igniters chosen by the Thousand-Year Fire."

"3. You must hold a noble rank in Ambros, this door opens only for those of noble rank."

When Pan God finished reading, Ivita approached the door. Suddenly, the lock on the bronze door automatically unlocked, and the door opened a crack.

By pure chance, Ivita had already fulfilled all the conditions required to open the door."

A waft of dust from behind the bronze door hit them, carrying an extremely foul smell, like that of a corpse.

This put a shadow over Milani’s face.

Whispering, Milani said, "Could the elder’s words be true?"

Hearthstone Witch spoke her mind. "Why do you care what the Thousand-Year Fire burns with? Isn’t power all that matters? You’re just being overly sentimental. When the Thousand-Year Fire was created, slaves were treated like livestock. What’s wrong with burning tens of thousands of them? Now that your standard of living has improved and life is valuable, killing sends the matter to the Ambros City Council. You have to let those old men in the council discuss how to prosecute you, and that’s why you look down on such a Thousand-Year Fire."

Milani’s face turned pale as she glanced at Hearthstone Witch. "Ambros has its own laws, it is a civilized nation."

"We are not primitive savages."

Ivita looked at Hearthstone Witch and said, "Nothing is certain yet."

"There could be more to this, as I’ve found that the Thousand-Year Fire seems to contain many different types of flames. The issue is complex, let’s not jump to conclusions."

Milani agreed, "Exactly!"

Hearthstone Witch glared at Milani in annoyance.

Pan God read the inscription behind the opened bronze door. "This temple serves as the tomb of the Virgin of the Planetary Civilization. Those entering must maintain a respectful heart, otherwise disaster will strike. Please remember this."

Ivita thought of the final part of the mural in the Fire Passing Ceremony Place, which depicted the prophets who had fled to Ambros after the collapse of the Ancient World. These prophets had wanted to help the Ambros people preserve the knowledge of the Thousand-Year Fire, and thus, they established many Fire Sacrifice Squares that preserved the embers of the Thousand-Year Fire at their behest.

So this temple was their tomb.

No wonder it contained the most important secrets of the Thousand-Year Fire.
