The witch thought I am a Demon God -
Chapter 264 - 179: The Death God of the Wizard and Animal Card Divination_1
Chapter 264: Chapter 179: The Death God of the Wizard and Animal Card Divination_1
Within the Witch’s Graveyard, Hugo Russo was originally in the process of concocting a Magic Potion when he suddenly paused to lend an ear, hearing the voices of his ancestors trying to converse with him.
Meanwhile, his hand trembled, accidentally dropping an extra crocus into the crucible. Instantly, the Brainwashing Potion in the crucible became useless, and the green liquid started bubbling continuously. Within seconds, a violent wind began to blow above it, causing the temperature in the vicinity of the crucible to plummet rapidly.
If Hugo hadn’t retracted quickly, his left hand, which was resting on the crucible, would have been frozen solid.
In the crucible, the liquid had turned into an ice block, making the potion completely useless; even extracting the remaining usable essence from it was impossible.
Hugo was furious. "Mother, what are you trying to do..."
He heard a message from his ancestors, its content quickly leaving his face ashen, "What? There’s danger near our town of Kappa? Something is lurking near Kappa Town and, moreover, this thing is marked with traces of Ash magic unique to Kappa Town?"
Hugo realized that his ancestors were warning him of a traitor in the Witch’s Graveyard.
Anguished, he moved to the shelf on his left, retrieving a stack of animal cards. He closed his eyes and drew six cards from the stack, laying them face down on the rough wooden tabletop.
He murmured a few spells under his breath.
All of a sudden, the atmosphere around him changed, as if some force had descended.
He drew three of the cards, flipping each open. The first was of a proud, chest-thrusting lion, symbolizing authority and strength; the second was of a cuckoo bird with alternating grey and white feathers, symbolizing harvest and abundance; the third was an elephant, symbolizing peace and sainthood.
These three cards combined were a sign that the Graveyard would maintain peace and strength, achieve a rich reward at this year’s Graveyard ceremony, and that Hugo himself would continue to lead the Graveyard, his mother still able to control all the ancestors.
Hugo bowed to the ground beneath his feet, saying, "Mother, my animal card divination tells me that nothing has happened, in fact, it predicts only good things."
"In this graveyard, the accuracy rate of my divination is as high as 90%, covering the detail intricately."
"This is the blessing of the ancestors."
"So, that’s why you interfered with my brewing of the Brainwashing Potion. You should know that I just wasted a hundred pounds because of your interference."
Hugo was quite indignant, because in a war where the forces were evenly matched, it was a battle for resources, and resources meant money.
Therefore, money was extremely important to their graveyard.
But their graveyard was nowhere near its old glory, generations of accumulated wealth had already been exhausted, and they now had little industry left to generate secular wealth.
Due to this, Hugo himself had slowly grown practical and parsimonious.
Hugo continued to hear the messages from his ancestors. "You’re asking me to wait?"
"Wait for what?"
All of a sudden, the three cards he’d drawn had caught fire.
The lion, cuckoo bird, holy elephant- all burned to ashes. Hugo Russo’s face paled; he turned quickly to look at the remaining three cards on the table, flipping them over one by one.
The first was a ferocious vulture, symbolizing corruption and weakness;
The second was an ominous crow, symbolizing impending danger or a calamitous event that had already occurred;
The image on the third card was a mouse, the opposite of the elephant, symbolizing deceit, lower-class, and war.
Hugo’s fingers trembling against the wooden table, he muttered to himself. "A war is coming."
"Moreover, we are wrought with internal corruption, there are already traitors among us."
"And one of us has already been killed."
"This divination result also shows that the position of the Graveyard leader will be stolen in a vile way."
Hugo Russo’s face twisted in fury,"The Mortal King of Ambros is beginning a war, and this is the day that I lead our Wizard Group to rise. The Wizards in our group have served the Ambros people for a millennia, it’s time for recompense."
"All mere mortals are but slaves to the witches of our graveyard."
A message from his ancestors echoed in his ear yet again, but this time Hugo Russo’s face twisted in distaste,"Mother, you’re saying that what’s happening now is retribution for the way I stole the position of Graveyard Leader? No, this is indeed the time for the witches of our Graveyard to rise."
"As long as I wait for my two students, one to get the help of Boots Cat, and the other to get blessed and become an Immortal, and then hold the Graveyard ceremony, I will be able to use them as bargaining chips and prevail over Ambros."
As it turned out, he needed Boots Cat and the Immortal not only to deal with Ivita, but also to further consolidate his reign over Ambros.
Hugo, his face darkening, drew another card from the deck, quickly turning over the card to find it was a fish.
Then, he drew two more cards, these depicted a human and a giant dragon respectively.
Hugo was puzzled."Man, fish, giant dragon?"
"What could they mean together?"
He used magic, ringing a bell to summon Elder Franks and another Elder from the graveyard, instructing them to search for enemies outside of Kappa Town.
...
Outside Kappa Town, the Tide Fishman, a spirit of the tides, had been killing witches’ apprentices or wizard’s apprentices wandering around outside of Kappa Town all afternoon, claiming eleven lives in total.
But afterwards, it seemed that the Witch’s Graveyard had discovered that someone was hunting witches around Kappa Town, so the Tide Fishman no longer encountered any apprentices.
It heard a noise and found that it was Elder Franks and another official wizard elder approaching, so the Spirit of the Tides immediately hid.
It continuously avoided these two elders.
Because a good hunter would not go after the toughest prey first.
Every time Elder Franks came close and intentionally released a magic fluctuation, the Spirit of the Tides was always able to evade it without being noticed.
Soon, Francesca and another dark-skinned, short-haired male wizard arrived at the grove. This wizard was dressed in a black cloak, his eyes icy cold.
"Damn it." The elder wizard said, "That Fishman Monster eluded us again just as we approached."
"Who on our side planted this creature here?"
Francesca said, "Could it be the Wizard Lord we are dealing with who dumped a Fishman in our area?"
The other elder wizard scoffed. "A wizard’s apprentice, possessing the power to control such a mighty magical creature?"
"I suspect it is certainly an old enemy from the cemetery, intentionally causing havoc here."
"I don’t think it’s the Fishman clan from the Cross Island, that would be too obvious. Do you think it’s possible that it’s the Witch Council of the Epirus Republic?"
"Hasn’t the Witch Republic said that they have been in seclusion for quite some time due to conducting the ’Heartless Experiment’? Could it be that they have been plotting to seize the ancestral power of our Witches’ Cemetery all along?"
Watching the wizard elder getting lost in his thoughts, Francesca was rendered speechless.
I’ve already given you the answers.
Francesca tried once again to direct his attention to Ivita. "I think it’s possible it was the Wizard Lord’s doing. A few days ago, there was a severe magical fluctuation in his domain. Didn’t Chief Hugo warn us to be careful about that?"
The elder wizard shook his head, saying, "But he’s just an ordinary wizard apprentice."
"Impossible, this can’t be possible..."
Suddenly, screams could be heard from far away.
Both of them were taken aback.
They both dashed towards the source of the scream, arriving to see a Fishman stabbing a warlock’s heart with a trident in the forest, twisting it and killing her on the spot.
The elder wizard screamed in fury, with his anger causing nearby trees to be uprooted.
The roots of dozens of trees aimed at the Spirit of the Tides and then violently rushed over. In an instant, the Fishman was speared by dozens of wooden stakes.
The elder wizard said angrily, "We could have saved her if her brain was just smashed, but her heart was pierced."
"The witch apprentices who died before met the same fate. This guy is simply a hunter out to kill us."
"I’ll make him pay!"
"Hahaha, he’s finally dead."
Francesca chuckled silently without making a sound.
This monster is designed to kill witches; it is the creation of a joint ritual by five wizards, witches, and the ancient soul.
There’s no way that it would go down so easily.
Sure enough, the dust settled, and the Fishman of the Spirit of the Tides stepped on the tree, walked out like the Death God. Most of his body had transformed into a water elemental body, with water being spewed out from the vortex near his heart, completely repairing his body. Then, his body transformed back to flesh.
The elder wizard watched this scene in shock, gasping for breath. "What kind of monster is this?"
"This isn’t a Fishman."
"Who created such a terrifying monster?"
"No no no... I have to calm down, all magic has its weaknesses, no matter how powerful this magic monster is, it has a weak spot."
"The stronger it is, the more exposed its weaknesses. Its mental state is too chaotic."
"The weakness must be there."
Francesca stood behind the elder wizard, shaking her head lightly at the Fishman from Spirit of the Tides, indicating that it wasn’t the right time to attack a professional wizard.
Because who knows if this formal wizard could decode the conjuring during the battle. Although the probability is low, there’s no need to take the risk.
The task of the Tide Fishman is to distract the cemetery witches before Pan God and Ivita return, making them fully prepared to deal with this united ritual-created magic creature.
Therefore, under the stunned gaze of the formal wizard, the Tide Fishman suddenly retreated. After hesitating for a moment, it turned and quickly dived into the woods.
It escaped.
The formal wizard heaved a sigh of relief and said to Francesca, "It seems that I scared him off. I won. I protected you, milady."
A bit fed up with his arrogance, Francesca could only respond with a nod and a smile.
From that day on, the Tide Fishman left the witches of the cemetery restless in their sleep, as an enemy of theirs loomed day and night around their home just outside Kappa Town.
...
On the other hand, after three days, Ivita finally arrived at Marlindana City in a carriage.
This city, protected by a massive stone wall, is ranked among the top ten in Ambros.
However, at the moment, the city seemed under martial law, and everyone entering the city had to undergo rigorous checks by the guards.
He had the coachman queue up at the city gate. When evening fell after half a day’s waiting, the guards stopped Ivita’s carriage.
Two young guards exchanged glances. "Is it a nobleman’s carriage? All cities almost no longer allow nobles to enter unless you are invited."
Ivita frowned.
"Of course, there is another option." One of the young guards said. "If you are a marriageable nobleman and accept the invitation from the Weaving Workers’ Guild to participate in the masquerade ball, then you may also enter."
