Chapter 164: Chapter 123: Is Law the King of the Country? (5217)_2
Lady Alice said, "Of course, you can choose to refuse. It’s your right."
"Young people like you always enjoy a bit of hustle and bustle."
"Tomorrow, at the court, the most powerful people in Parviga will be gathered, including foreigners, grand merchants from the Aristocratic Commercial Republic, captains from the Belisarius Business Republic, and lawyers from Florcana."
"Moreover, Lord Prole, the principal offender, will also be tried at the court."
Originally, Ivita wanted to refuse and return to Baron Moro’s territory because Pan God mentioned that many important figures would pass through his land soon.
Besides, he needed to return and oversee the work of his territory with the goal of increasing the magic power of the Sky Attribute.
But upon hearing about the Three Republics, Ivita became spirited.
He had heard many people discuss these Three Republics before, but he did not know what kind of people lived there.
Since he is entrusted to gather the laws, he naturally needs to travel the world and observe people and events.
"Then I can stay in this city for one more day." Ivita replied.
This was his agreement.
Hearing that Ivita was about to leave, Lady Alice didn’t find it surprising. He was merely here to do business.
After returning that evening, the servants informed Ivita that Knight Griffin and Demon Hunter Black Wolf, had finally sobered up from their drunken stupor.
Ivita took note of a detail: Knight Griffin woke up first, looking morning-fresh just by sleeping off his drunkenness.
The extraordinary heart’s ability to metabolize alcohol was indeed formidable.
When Griffin and Black Wolf sobered up, they vaguely remembered Ivita’s reproach, resulting in their uneasy expressions, as they feared Ivita might continue scolding them.
However, after Ivita returned home, he only stayed in the main hall for a while and did not even look at the two who were standing rigidly on the side.
Knight Griffin almost spoke up several times, but in the end, he remained silent.
Before retiring to his bedroom, Ivita tossed a bag containing thirty gold pounds to Knight Griffin, who looked surprised and asked, "Sir, what is this?"
Without turning around, Ivita replied, "Tomorrow, you will go to the market of Parviga, use these gold pounds to buy food, and then you will return to the territory with the caravan."
"From now on, we will use grain to pay salaries in our territory."
He still remembered the curse of the Duke of the Forest upon Ambros. The price of grain would definitely rise in the future.
Therefore, he planned to buy enough grain to last the upcoming famine years in advance.
After that, Ivita left them to return to his bedroom.
Leaving the other two, who were at a loss, they were unsure of Ivita’s attitude. Were they being rebuked, or were they not?
Griffin said to Black Wolf, "We shouldn’t have drunk so much last night."
"Next time, we should only drink when we don’t have any official duties."
Black Wolf shrugged, "It was you who wanted to impress those lady nobles and young ladies, so you dragged me to drink with you."
"Originally, I was quite sober."
"I thought you could find a girl or two who were charmed by you last night, but then you got drunk."
"No one wants to get intimate with a drunkard. Isn’t that a waste of good drink?"
Knight Griffin, looking gloomy, left.
That was a dark history.
The next day, in the morning, Black Wolf and Griffin, together with four apprentices, went to the marketplace for procurement, and then prepared to return to their territory.
Meanwhile, Ivita and the Old Witch headed to the courthouse of Parviga.
The Parviga courthouse was an outdoor hall, now filled with relatively affluent citizens with spare time on their hands.
These citizens are essentially middle-class or wealthy businessmen who didn’t need to sell their physical or mental labour for a living.
Therefore, they were extremely interested in the trial of these traitors.
After all, they had time to kill.
Sometimes, watching a court judgment can be as entertaining as watching a drama.
At any rate, it could be considered a form of public entertainment.
Ivita, on the other hand, was led to the jury’s seating section, as arranged by Lady Alice.
The jury section looked quite ordinary with just thirty wooden stools. However, in front of each stool was a small table laden with simple fruits and fresh water.
But those seated there, each one of them, were either middle-aged or older.
It was rather strange for a young man like Ivita to be seated among them.
The Old Witch, upon seeing Ivita had taken his seat, casually found herself a chair. The guide looked quite troubled, stopping and starting several times as if wanting to speak.
He circled restlessly around the Old Witch, clearly wanting to point out that this was not her seat.
Finally, the Old Witch raised her head to look at him. Just as the guide started to relax, the Old Witch demanded, "What are you fluttering around me for? I’m not a beauty! You’re making me dizzy, get lost!"
Looking troubled, the guide turned towards Ivita for assistance.
Ivita embarrassedly wondered why the Old Witch had taken a seat in the jury section when she was not invited to do so.
At this point, the other jury members remained silent, curiously watching the development.
Walking over, Lady Alice realised the issue and said to the guide, "Place another chair there."
This wasn’t a big issue.
It was just a matter of an extra seat.
Lady Alice didn’t want any awkwardness with Ivita, so she immediately proposed a solution.
