Chapter 1030: Chapter 526: Exchange of Territory

The Emperor actually admitted it on the spot.

This surprised the Sacred Wizard and the Duke Gugel, as the Emperor admitting to attacking the princedoms was a very appalling act.

It was enough to trigger a war.

Ivita looked at Emperor Aoyue III and nodded. "Is that so? So be it, let’s go."

Ivita and the Hearthstone Witch then transformed into a Dragon Hawk and a vulture, swiftly leaving the place.

The six Sacred Wizards watched Ivita, contemplating his magical power which might even surpass their peak.

"We didn’t expect such a powerful wizard to appear in this world. It seems we are old now."

"I don’t know how the Emperor will respond, but what does it have to do with us? We’ll just watch to see who will win in the end."

...

After leaving the territory of the Holy Empire, Ivita and the Hearthstone Witch settled in a remote village in Alsace. Seeing that Ivita did not utter a word, the Hearthstone Witch thought he was very angry.

"Your Highness, the Emperor openly tried to assassinate the underlings of the princedoms, we must make him pay." The Hearthstone Witch said. "Fortunately he admitted it, now that he has, it will be easier for us. Your Highness, just tell me who you want me to assassinate."

Ivita glanced at the Hearthstone Witch and shook his head slightly. "The Emperor admitting it is not really a good thing. I had hoped he would stubbornly deny it."

"To be honest, I was going to deal with the Emperor afterward anyway, so whether he did it or not is not really important. But what is important is that he admitted to orchestrating this major assassination while launching a full-scale invasion of the Kingdom of Frank."

Ivita pinched the bridge of his nose, pained. "Many things could have been glossed over and delayed for a solution later, but by admitting so decisively, he really has put me in a difficult position now."

"Am I now supposed to confront him along with the Kingdom of Frank?"

"People plot by pushing one danger away only to invite another. I cannot afford to do that."

The Hearthstone Witch also realized the severity of the situation. "I didn’t expect seeking revenge to be so complicated."

Ivita said, "If we were merely individuals, acting impulsively would be no big deal, but our every word and action decide the life and death of tens of millions, so we cannot act based merely on our emotions."

"I am indeed furious, but I have long governed my emotions. However, we might really need to exact an equivalent revenge on the Emperor..."

"Wait a minute..." Ivita suddenly seemed to remember something. "Hold on. This could indeed have been done by the Emperor, but it could also have been done by the Kingdom of Frank. If that is the case, it makes sense for the Emperor to admit he was the orchestrator since he indeed gave the orders."

"Hearthstone Witch, return to the Royal Capital immediately, and have our Minister of Intelligence investigate any links between the Kingdom of Frank and these assassins."

Ivita tried divining whether the Kingdom of Frank was associated with these assassins, but encountered some sort of esoteric interference resulting in two divination outcomes—one indicating an association and the other indicating none.

The Kingdom of Frank had actually called upon diviners to preemptively obfuscate the outcomes of divinations.

This clearly wasn’t as straightforward as it seemed.

A day later, the results came out. Despite the Kingdom of Frank’s best efforts to conceal their traces, it was discovered that they had been in contact with the assassins.

Now it was clear. The Emperor had indeed issued the orders to assassinate various ministers within the royal capital of Alsace, but his preparedness fell short of causing such significant damage. It was Louis XI of the Kingdom of Frank who backed him, enabling an organized assassination inside the council hall of Alsace.

This caused real problems in the administrative operations of Alsace.

The Hearthstone Witch looked at Ivita and said, "Based on what we found, the main body of assassins appearing in King City were the Emperor’s men, but mixed in with them were assassins nurtured by the Kingdom of Frank. Your Highness, should we reveal the truth, or should we smear the Emperor?"

Ivita nodded.

Only one country can be blamed for something. More than one is not acceptable.

He must choose one target for lawful retaliation.

In other words, he can either insist that it was done by the Emperor of the Holy Empire, using the Imperial Parliament and other means to make the Emperor pay; or he could reveal the truth and temporarily identify the Kingdom of Frank as his enemy.

’The conspiracy of the Kingdom of Frank, as long as I am careful, can be seen through. Are they just trying to gamble?’

’But...’

Ivita pondered, but now considering the prophecies, it seemed he could confirm that Aoyue III might be a potential temporary ally, while the Kingdom of Frank could be the enemy lurking in the background.

He was about to speak when he suddenly heard hurried footsteps outside his council hall, a servant gasping for air bowed to Ivita: "Your Majesty, a messenger from the Frankish people has come riding a treasured horse capable of covering thousands of miles a day, ready to present you with three gifts."

The Hearthstone Witch heard about the treasure and perked up her ears. "What’s going on, have those Frankish people changed their temperament?"

"They’re even presenting treasures to Your Highness now. It’s a bit late for them to try to curry favor with us now."
