Chapter 973: Volume 31: The Hand That Covers the Sky Chapter 17: Interference

Again, these preposterous legends, or rather, insidious rumors, were something that Komer himself was adept at concocting. From the ancient Dwarven relics of the Volt Mountain Range to the treasures of the Goddess of Nature in the Little Greenland Forest, Komer was all too familiar with the reality behind these so-called "legends." As long as there was even a slight connection, he could exploit it with just the right amount of far-fetched associations. Skillfully manipulated, it was impossible for people not to believe. There were so many who loved chasing these baffling legends, and often, they had considerable resources at their disposal.

Komer’s expression was quickly noticed by Finitz, who of course knew Komer’s background. However, she did not believe that the legends of the Elf Clan were the same kind of trickery the Mortal Lord excelled in. After all, these were legends that had been circulating among the Elf Clan for hundreds of years, and indeed, some had come close to success.

Out of the seven Sacred Objects, five had been gathered together. It was unfortunate that they fell short, for without the two missing pieces, it was impossible to enter the Secret Realm. It was said, however, that they had roughly marked the location of the Secret Realm of the Nature Goddess in the forests along the coast of the Southern Storm Ocean. But the forests along the Storm Ocean were so vast without a precise map, it was impossible to search for.

"Do you think it’s a kind of elusive legend?"

"Hmm, indeed, I believe it’s a hoax crafted by some schemers."

"What is their purpose?"

"Oh, that’s not easy to say. This legend of your clan must have a history, and with time and changes, it’s difficult to determine the original intentions of the one who set this trap. If it were a legend that only emerged recently, I believe I could more or less pinpoint its purpose," Komer said confidently, "but one thing is certain: none of these things will have a perfect ending. Their historical mission is to make many people live in fantasy, chasing after them constantly, and that’s all there is to it."

"No, Komer, you may make such a judgement on other matters, but the legend within our clan definitely has its basis," Finitz shook her head, not persuaded by Komer. The history of the Elf Clan was not something Mortals could comprehend.

"Oh, state your reasons."

"It’s simple. Just look at the power of these Sacred Objects to understand why this is not just a mere legend. My Greenwood Divine Chain, you’ve felt its power, right? Can any ordinary magic item do that? This is a true Divine Artifact, not something any Magic Toolsmith can create."

Komer was taken aback, remembering the attack he had suffered when he first met Finitz. Magic Power Rebound had nearly cost him his life, and it was the prop he made and Finitz’s Greenwood Divine Chain that helped him struggle out of the abyss. Moreover, it could be confirmed that the decisive factor was indeed Finitz’s Greenwood Divine Chain.

"Hmm, that’s somewhat reasonable, but this alone is not enough to prove that this is the key to the treasure left by the Goddess of Nature for you," Komer was equally hard to convince.

"Hmph, you’ve seen the effectiveness of the Greenwood Divine Chain. The other Sacred Objects are just as extraordinary. The Wave Bracelet parts water as if walking on flat ground, and its enhancement of Water Magic is indescribable; the Soaring Wings Pin is a sacred item of Air Magic, greatly increasing the user’s speed of travel through the air. Each of the Sacred Objects has its unique effect, yet they do not conflict with one another. However, no one knows what will happen when these seven Sacred Objects are brought together."

Finitz did not realize the stimulating effect her description of the seven great Sacred Objects of the Elf Clan would have on Komer, but one thing was certain—the allure of the seven Sacred Objects was likely the initial driving force behind Komer’s decision to get involved in the affairs of the Elf Clan. Even without the so-called treasure of the secret realm, the temptation of the seven Sacred Objects alone was more than enough.

Komer did not believe that his Power was strong enough to strike on multiple fronts, particularly with the threat of the Beastmen and Northern Alliance interference not yet lifted; Nicosia under his control still needed to exercise considerable restraint.

However, Komer had his own plans regarding the Elf Clan issue. The Dark Elves were clearly supported or instigated by some external force; otherwise, as Finitz said, even though the Dark Elves were powerful within the seven Elf Tribes, taking on the other six tribes alone would be suicidal. Yet they had taken this step, proving there were some unknown factors at play, and Komer first needed to identify this hidden manipulator.

Hayreddin had already made headway in the Southern Mediterranean and Storm Ocean coastal regions; the submission of Demisheme had expanded his influence significantly. Although still not comparable to Katrina’s Power, choosing a different direction for growth while avoiding direct confrontation was a principle Komer and Hayreddin had agreed upon. The Storm Ocean could undoubtedly become one such direction.

To get involved in Elf affairs, in fact, did not require much force at the beginning. The Power of the Black Flame Knights and Mage Corps was entirely adequate for the task. This was not a frontal war, but rather skirmishes on different levels, and large-scale involvement was impractical. Allowing these individually powerful figures to test the waters was naturally the first choice.

Komer increasingly valued the special Knights regiment assembled by Vladimir Koff. This force had no restrictions on its use and was not bound by any other duties or responsibilities. Their inherently dark nature also made them more suitable to handle some matters not meant for the public eye.

Using force to subdue the Dark Elves was no problem for the Black Flame Knights. Of course, Komer’s ultimate goal was items like the Wave Bracelet and Nine Heavens Hairpin. As for the affairs of the various Elf Tribes, he had little interest.

The Power of the Caucasian Mage Group was also expanding. After integrating the Mage Power of the entire Nicosia, the Caucasian Mage Group was no longer as humble as it was at its inception. With as many as thirty Mages, they were well able to support the reputation of their name. However, the Mage Corps Power was mixed, and the southern expedition to the Cordillera Wilderness had not been particularly beneficial for training. Therefore, this interference in Elf affairs might provide a good stage for them to improve. (To be continued. For subsequent Chapters, please visit www.qidian.com.
