Chapter 956: 30 Volumes Empire First Appearance Chapter 26 Conquest and Dreams
Indeed, Fran had been considering this matter for some time. The class to which the knights belonged had always been an extremely important part of Nicosia in all regions. Politically, they mostly depended on the Great Aristocracy, but economically, they were relatively independent with their own lands and manors, leading comfortable lives. However, they valued the glory and dreams that came with political careers even more, and Komer, after destroying Poznan and Silesia, had failed to appreciate this point. If they were dismissed to return home like ordinary infantrymen, the dreamless knights would surely give rise to many problems.
Renta was the first to realize this issue. As the operator behind Poznan’s policies, she was acutely aware of the problem, but solving it was beyond her capabilities. Komer, however, seemed to have forgotten about such an issue, which left Renta with no choice but to communicate with Fran in private, who was in actual charge of the Army’s composition and training. Fran immediately recognized the harm that could come from neglecting this problem.
While the Wave Knight Corps had been disbanded in name, the elite forces within the knights regiments were retained by Fran. He informed these knights, who had once lost hope, that the Knights regiment was disbanded due to political reasons but could be reinstated for political needs, depending on the knights’ performances. This became the sole support for the hearts of these knight corps’ knights.
The resolution of the Silesian issue followed the same approach. The core forces of the two knights regiments were preserved, but this was not a permanent solution. To bring these knightly forces into the spotlight honorably, new missions had to be assigned to them, and the South Cordillera Wilderness affairs provided an excellent stage for this force to hone their skills.
The Wave Knight Corps and the Blazing Flame Knight Corps were merged into the Bright Torrent Knights, and the number of knights in their ranks even exceeded that of the Homer Knights. Komer even encouraged Fran to further expand this knights regiment’s might. Some previously dismissed knights were called back to service, committing these proud knights to their lord’s conquest, a task both sacred and glorious.
A Southern Expeditionary Army was rapidly formed, with not only the eager Bright Torrent Knights but also the Black Flame Knights, led by Vladimir Koff, set to appear on the South Kodillara Wilderness battlefield.
With the help of the Fallen Knights, the recruitment activities for the Black Flame Knights in the Central and Southern parts of the Blue Continent were quite successful. Although they could not compare with large knight corps like the Bright Torrent Knights, the Black Flame Knights focused on a smaller, elite path. Instead of size and Camp quality like the Bright Torrent Knights and the Homer Knights, the Black Flame Knights placed their standards on individual combat capabilities and the ability of small group coordination within the team for breakthrough attacks.
However, the power of just two knights regiments would definitely not be sufficient. While Komer was reluctant to deploy his Furious Wave Corps, considering that the upcoming war in the South Cordillera Wilderness could introduce many variables to his future intentions, he still planned to send a portion of Half-Beast Warriors. Mage power was also necessary to deploy, as it was a trump card to curb Barbarian attacks. With the protection of two knights regiments, Komer did not need to worry about their safety.
Fortunately, the collapse of the Philip, Heine, and Ferdinand family’s power left a lot of magicians jobless, logically accepting these magic forces and offering them more generous treatment, swiftly winning the hearts of the Magicians. Magicians are not knights or nobles; they did not need to bear any psychological burden for their defection. Once a lord fell, it also declared the automatic termination of their contract between them; this was a generally accepted rule.
Such a group of magic practitioners, significant in number to even surpass the Caucasian Mage Group in scale, was uneven in quality. To integrate them into a combat-effective force, they would need careful honing. But, Komer did not have to worry about this because Rebry would take care of everything for him.
"Ilot, are you ready?" It had been a long time since Komer had been able to sit down casually with someone for a chat, even if it was about serious matters. Komer didn’t want to make it tense and only with Ilot and Puber could he maintain such a relaxed and pleasant conversation. He cherished it greatly.
"What’s there to prepare for?" Ilot shrugged nonchalantly, "It’s just the same thing. I just need to firmly implement your intentions. Dragumo has it under control on the half-beast side, and I trust him even more than I trust myself. His band of Half-Beasts has been itching for action, and if we don’t give them something to do, I fear they might actually go mad. As for the two knights regiments, they have their own leaders. Vladimir Koff is an old acquaintance; even those Fallen Knights are familiar. The Bright Torrent Knights, though, I’m not too familiar with. If you can assure that this group will absolutely follow orders, I think there should be no suspense in this fight."
"Rest assured in that regard. Although the Bright Torrent Knights regiment is newly formed, their goals align with ours. Or to put it more bluntly, they need this war’s victory to prove their knightly status. Otherwise, they will have nothing. To continue holding their knightly status or even to reach a higher position, they need to present something persuasive. I am not a philanthropist; I do not bestow privileges to anyone. If they cannot prove their worthiness, I am sure many would be more than happy to take their place," said Fran calmly, yet his words were laced with venom, sending a chill through even Ilot.
Like Komer, Ilot also came from a noble family. He was well aware that once a knight was stripped of his status, it was almost a catastrophic blow to the knight’s family and even their surname. Komer was using this opportunity to bind a bunch of once glorious knights to this thundering chariot heading south, where the Barbarians would become the first targets beneath the knights’ swords.
Conquest and dreams, glory and freedom, all these would become the knights’ tireless pursuit. (To be continued... For further developments, please log on to www.qidian.com. More Chapters are available, support the author, support authorized reading!)
