Chapter 955: Volume 30: The Dawn of the Empire, Chapter 25: Waste Utilization

After sending Woodleigh and Montrey away, Komer began to ponder how to utilize this extremely favorable situation.

The Barbarians of the Cordillera Wilderness had always been a formidable barrier between Caucasus and Flanders. Apart from the vast territory, a more significant reason was the unruly Barbarians living in this region. In fact, the terrain of the entire Cordillera Wilderness was not too complicated; besides the Baden Gold Mountain Range stretching sinuously not far from the North Mediterranean coast, the main terrain features of the whole Cordillera Wilderness were high plateaus and some gently rolling hill areas.

Although Komer had long controlled the Flanders Region, he had not considered linking his two territories thousands of miles apart by land until he took control of the Sanjia Tribe. After all, to any sane person, the Cordillera Wilderness seemed to be an insurmountable natural moat, and the Barbarians would never allow anyone the audacity of connecting the Wilderness they regarded as their hinterland. Even when the Sanjia Tribe was completely prostrate at Komer’s feet, he did not entertain this idea.

However, the visits from Woodleigh and Montrey seemed to spark some interest in him.

The abundant resources of the Cordillera Wilderness had always been the main attraction for mortals—Magic Metal ore, Magic Crystal mines, and precious Magical Beasts. These were extremely rare in the controlled areas of mortals on the Blue Continent, but no one was willing to risk their lives for a venture into the Wilderness; even if you found what you were looking for, you could not take it with you because first, you would not be able to get past the Barbarians.

But now, all of this seemed possible.

The northern area controlled by the Sanjia Tribe was firmly in Komer’s hands, but he hoped to enter the North Cordillera Wilderness in a gentler manner, avoiding irritating the older, more conservative Barbarians as much as possible. He did not want to rush and ruin the wonderful situation he had meticulously cultivated. The central Cordillera Wilderness had always been the activity area of minor tribes, but as the northern attractions became increasingly significant, many small tribes had already left the Central Region to join the trend northward in search of a better life. In fact, the central Wilderness was in a semi-vacuum state.

The main strength of the Barbarians was concentrated in the South, where ten out of the thirteen influential tribes in the Tribal Alliance resided in the southern Wilderness—Yonka, Sanwa, Sanya—these tribes formed the main part of the Cordillera Wilderness, and their military power had always been the number one enemy of invasions into Iberia and Shimaina. The disintegration of the Barbarians in the face of interest was something Komer had long taken into account: look at the current disarray of the Yonka Tribe, and you will understand how difficult the living conditions of the Mountain people are now.

Caton, Cabo, and Sanya Tribe against the Carlo Tribe led by the Sanwa Tribe camp, with Carter Tribe watching the wind, it was indeed a balanced situation. No matter how this battle unfolded, it seemed there would be no disadvantage to Caucasus and Flanders at present. To put it precisely, it was like rippling a tranquil pond—why bother oneself? Perhaps letting the Barbarians fight more fiercely and deplete more would be more advantageous for Komer’s future control over these people who defy the trend of history.

However, Komer did not intend to do so; that would be a relatively shortsighted approach. In Komer’s mind, the entire Mountain people had become a tremendous leverage he could utilize. The surrender of the Sanjia Tribe had greatly stimulated his desire to conquer, and the opportunity presented by Woodleigh and Montrey’s visit undeniably further whetted his ambition. If he could conquer all the Barbarians of the Cordillera Wilderness, not to mention anything else, just the glory and pride alone would be worth the gamble.

Woodleigh and Montrey did not have the assurance of winning this battle, and Komer was aware of that. Although that faction had gained a lot from the trade with Flanders, time was short, and the Carlo Tribe and the Sanwa Tribe also continued to receive some reinforcements from the Sanjia Tribe and other channels, of course, not as much as Woodleigh and his allies, and the gap in military power was not something that could be bridged in a day or two.

If he intervened, what kind of outcome would he hope to achieve?

Komer weighed this opportunity. If he were to proceed, he would have to use this battle to completely resolve the Barbarian issue, or, at the very least, make the Barbarians dance to his tune. He must possess the power to influence all the Barbarians. The military strength of the Carlo and Sanwa Tribes was not a small number; to achieve his goal, he would need to consult the opinions of professionals.

Komer’s hopes of getting involved in the Barbarian civil war were not met with the stern opposition from Fran as he had expected. Instead, Fran’s attitude was somewhat strange, with a sense of faint anticipation, which surprised and piqued Komer’s curiosity.

"Lord Komer, you need not look at me with such eyes. I had some ideas I wanted to suggest to you, and now that you have such a stage and opportunity, I think maybe we can kill two birds with one stone," Fran’s tone remained ever calm and composed.

"Hmm, it seems we have overlooked something, is that correct?" Komer immediately understood the dissatisfaction behind the other’s words.

"The Wave Knight Corps from Poznan and the Blazing Flame Knight Corps from Silesia."

Fran’s brief words made Komer react immediately, "Is there a problem?"

"What do you think, Lord? The soldiers can be disbanded and go on with their work, but what about these knights and squires? Their gathering locally will bring a lot of trouble. Princess Renta has repeatedly reminded and asked me to consider the future of the Wave Knight Corps knights. Sending them back would be a great insult to their families and their honor, and that would only bring disaster to the region. Now, the Blazing Flame Knight Corps from Silesia faces the same problem," Fran said coldly.

Komer nodded apologetically, "Fran, I’ve been careless with this matter; I didn’t anticipate that those stubborn fools could cause so much trouble. I was a bit shortsighted."

"Humph, Lord, it concerns the attitude of an entire class; we should still be more cautious," Fran said with some dissatisfaction.

"Heh, that’s right, Fran, what do you think should be done? Oh, I mean, what would you do?" Komer believed the other would certainly offer him a surprise.

"Give them a new chance at life. The two knight regimens can fully merge and head to the South Cordillera Wilderness to realize their dreams of conquest and pride," Fran said thoughtfully, raising his head.
