Chapter 923: Volume 29: Remote Sword Qi, Chapter 17: Head-on Collision
Twelve mages turned into a mess of defeated limbs and bodies in that fleeting moment. As the blood rained down, the nauseating scent of gore overwhelmed the knights, who were yet to react, their eyes wide with fury.
"It’s the Cordillera Wasteland Thunder Peng! Curse those barbarians!" Trajan and Kent realized almost simultaneously, roaring as they leapt up, trying to intercept the Thunder Peng. But the lightning-fast creature had already streaked past, and all they could do was watch helplessly as six dark shadows disappeared into the distant sky.
The Thunder Peng’s squad was quite pleased with the slaughter of the twelve mages. Although they couldn’t completely eliminate the threat of the opposing mages, they had already inflicted severe damage on the mage force of the United Army.
Komer couldn’t help but clap in admiration; this dark move was truly indescribable. It immediately crushed the arrogance of the Light Mages. Looking at the remaining mages’ pale faces and their unsettled eyes, Komer believed that even if these men were to launch a magic attack, they would be distracted as they’d constantly fear the aerial assassins from behind. The Light Knights hadn’t kept their promise; they had failed in their duty to protect.
The Thunder Peng circled around and hovered above the United Army’s camp. The crossbowmen posed no threat to them at this range. They didn’t need to attack at this moment; merely circling around the United Army’s camp was enough to exert tremendous psychological pressure on the mages, especially witnessing their recently cheerful comrades being dismembered right before their eyes. Despite the Light Mages’ efforts to calm themselves, they were unable to do so for quite some time.
The heavy casualties suffered by the Light Mages significantly eased the pressure on the Union Mage Squad, which had been tirelessly resisting magic attacks. Various magic elements that had shrouded the Homer Camp also began to dissipate. Seizing this opportunity, Rebry switched from defense to attack. The Star Space Formation built jointly by Newman and others was immediately activated. The vast sky above the United Army’s camp roiled, and though it was daytime, the sunlight faded, turning the originally azure sky a strange shade of green.
Lorenzo’s face shifted slightly. He was not adept at Star Magic, but he knew that in such a large-scale military confrontation, Star Magic was undoubtedly the most effective means of attack. If the power of Star Magic were to fall into their camp, the morale, already battered by unexpected strikes from magic equipment and the Thunder Peng, would drop even further. And he could almost predict the outcome of the upcoming formal confrontation; he absolutely could not let this happen.
Onia, catching Lorenzo’s worried look, also saw the concern in his opponent’s eyes. Previously confident, Onia now realized that winning the war as he had imagined might not be so easy. He had always anticipated that Komer wouldn’t just sit back and await his fate, but he hadn’t expected the abundance of strategies at his disposal—magic equipment, Thunder Peng, and possibly even the Cordillera Wasteland Earth Dragons lurking behind. If they couldn’t turn the tide immediately, the war might develop in an unpredictable direction.
Reading the expression in his opponent’s eyes, Onia was the first to maximize the power of his Light Mages. The potency of the Star Space Formation was extraordinary; they had to curb the release intensity of magic power before the formation was fully activated, otherwise, the already terrified Light Mages might not even withstand the impact of the Star Space Formation.
Successive pillars of light formed around Onia’s body, stabbing towards the sky like endless Light Swords. The azure horizon was cast with shifting shadows due to the sudden appearance of the light pillars, creating swirling and surging magical auras that dramatically fluctuated. The sky was filled with colorful lights, rapidly changing and dazzling, as though it heralded an impending transformation.
Lorenzo had to admit that this important member of the Vazinsky Clan was not only significant in handling worldly affairs for Vazinsky but was also nearly as accomplished in magic as Michelangelo. The Supreme Sword of Light, an extremely difficult Light Divine Technique to master, signified that the cultivator’s Light Magic Power had reached a transformative realm. The Supreme Sword of Light did not possess much attack power against ordinary matters, but it was the natural nemesis for Magic and Magic Arrays, which was why Onia seldom used this domineering technique.
Seeing Onia suddenly enhance his mana and release the Supreme Sword of Light, Lorenzo and the surrounding mages understood that Onia was demonstrating that the strength of the Vazinsky Clan had not been majorly affected. The Supreme Sword of Light demanded a high level of mana, and Lorenzo judged that even a powerhouse like Onia would likely struggle to sustain it for long. The opponent’s Star Magic clearly involved the combined effort of many strong individuals. Ultimately, the confrontation between the two magic powers would depend on their respective depths of mana and understanding of the magic.
The situation had progressed to a point where both sides had to truly demonstrate their capabilities to determine the victor, and the Star Space Formation against the Supreme Sword of Light starkly showcased both sides’ resolve and strength.
The Homer army formation and the United Army formation finally moved into significant engagement half an hour after the initial skirmish.
The Furious Wave Corps roared and thundered onward like turbulent waves hitting the shore, their sharp axes and spears stirring up numerous dark red blood sprays. Meanwhile, the United Army’s lances pierced through the Rock Corps’ robust Tower Shield defensive line, brutally tearing apart the gaps between the shields, starting a fierce melee of close combat.
The Flying Feather Corps and the United Army’s crossbowmen almost simultaneously halted their advance. A sky-full barrage of arrows descended like locusts blocking the sun, the piercing shriek of arrows and the constant thrumming of bowstrings filling the air. Wave after wave of arrow salvos took their toll, with groans and cries of pain rising and falling—this was the price that had to be paid in war, inflicting damage on the enemy while also sustaining losses oneself.
With a powerful wave of Trajan’s hand, dozens of agile figures formed into razor-sharp arrowhead formations and suddenly plunged into the merged attack fronts. The knights could no longer contain themselves, savagely tearing through the defensive system of the Homer army formation. They aimed to gradually and persistently tear open the wounds of the Homer army formation, allowing these wounds to continuously bleed, causing the defense line to slowly deteriorate and ultimately collapse completely.
