Chapter 906: Volume 29, Distant Sword Qi, Chapter 1: Sky Wolf

"Short-sighted fool!" Christine was furious, her eyes blazing as she stared at a somewhat embarrassed Carter Wolfe, with cheeks flushed crimson from her agitation, and though her ample chest was covered by fur, the signs of tumultuous emotions were unmistakable, "Carter, you’ve disappointed me greatly. Do you not realize what your actions will lead to?"

Carter scanned his generals standing behind him with some irritation; they hung their heads like silent cicadas, feigning pitiful expressions. But Carter was sure that these bastards were actually overjoyed inside. Even he had been stirred by such a significant gain, and since it hadn’t occurred within the kingdom’s control, it was nothing out of the ordinary for the Beastmen—it wasn’t something to make such a fuss about, was it?

"Look here, Christina, what’s done is done. I’ll punish them later. I think you need not fret over it so much," said Carter, who understood Christina’s temperament. This time, Christina seemed truly enraged, storming into his tent and lashing out in front of all the generals. Even he found it hard to bear. After all, he was still a tribe leader; she had given him no face at all.

"Fret over it? Carter, do you understand what the Wolf Clan and the Deer Tribe are doing now? Do you think you can hide your deeds from Bill and Mouni? From Dashler? Perhaps they’re just waiting for you to act this way, giving them an excuse to do the same," Christina grew even angrier. How could Carter, normally so astute, become so foolish today? Not understanding the reasoning behind it at all?

"Hmph, what if Bill and Mouni know? They can do whatever they please! Dashler," Carter snorted, "he has no right to meddle in the affairs of the Wolf Clan. I will explain things to Shami," Carter’s face darkened.

"Explain? And how will you explain? Will you tell Shami you can’t control your men, letting them freely defy your orders, defy the laws set by the Beamon Kingdom?" Christina’s words dripped with sarcasm, coldly continuing, "Is that your explanation? What do you think Shami will think?"

"He can think whatever he likes! What do you want me to do then? Admit my wrongs to Shami, Mouni, and Bill, promising never to err again? Or perhaps read an apology letter aloud at the Leader Conference?" Carter’s lean, strong hands clenched, making a clucking sound, "Let me tell you, I can’t do that!"

"You must do it!" said Christina uncompromisingly.

"Christina, you’re being unreasonable! You know that’s impossible!" Carter’s face turned so dark it seemed to drip with water, the fury in his light green eyes burning fiercely.

"Carter, you’ve let me down. I always saw you as the most resolute and magnanimous man of our Beamon Tribe, but now," Christina scanned the silent Wolf Clan leaders with a furious gaze, "your performance is such a disappointment—blinded by the slightest profit. I even doubt whether their actions were carried out under your command!" she swept her gaze around; the Wolf Clan generals remained silent, and the long-faced fellow who looked a bit stumped quickly lowered his head when Christina’s gaze reached him.

"You may think as you like; I think I don’t need to explain anything to anyone!" Carter finally exploded in anger. Christina’s words were undoubtedly a doubt of his character; he could tolerate her criticisms and reprimands, but not the insult to his character.

"Fine then, Mr. Carter Wolfe, I think we both need to cool down," Christina said, her face paling. She fixed a deep stare at the Wolf Tribe Leader and, without looking back, stormed out of the tent like a gust of wind.

The tent fell deathly silent; the Wolf Clan generals instinctively held their breaths. The stumped-looking fellow also shrank his head, but his eyes kept darting around, signaling desperately to the lean, muscular man who always stood first among the Wolf Clan generals, as though the long-faced man wanted to break the current deadlock.

Carter propped his hands on the desk, his terrifying eyes sharpening with extreme rage, sweeping slowly over the generals who hung their heads.

"Hmm, why the silence? Who will tell me what’s truly going on? Dear Callum, my beloved brother, wouldn’t you like to explain something to me?" Carter’s tone was alarmingly calm, almost unusually gentle.

The fully-armed lean and muscular man, standing at the front, shivered. Looking around and finding all eyes on him, Callum Wolfe struggled to articulate his words and glanced at the long-faced man. This was not a situation he could face alone. It had been agreed that good or bad, they would face it together. Now, seeing his brother so unnervingly calm, knowing well his brother’s temperament, he realized it was a sign of an imminent explosion. They had to bear the burden together; otherwise, his brother might very well flay him alive.

"Hehe, Macbeth, seems like you’re involved in this as well. Never would have guessed." Carter’s gaze shifted, "Well, Mr. Deer Tribe Leader, can you tell me exactly what you and Callum have done behind my back? Perhaps it’s time I handed over the Wolf Tribe Leader’s crown?"
