Chapter 876: Volume 27: The Sudden Fury, Chapter 15: Showing Off

The goat-headed creature’s words immediately piqued Komer’s immense interest. A rather rich variety? Oh, what kind of concept was that? Did it mean that the iron ore production in Izmir could yield many kinds of magic metals? Was this guy showing off purposely with obscure hints, or did he really have something valuable to share? Komer didn’t deny the other’s expertise in Fire Magic, but having unique insights into ore composition, especially ore rich in magic metals, wasn’t something a Fire Mage could accomplish; this seemed more like the specialty of a dwarven surveyor.

"Lord Komer, don’t look at me with that kind of gaze. It hurts my pride. I know what you’re thinking, and there’s nothing worth hiding. I have dwarven blood, and I don’t think there’s anything shameful in that," the goat head said with some displeasure.

This news was quite surprising. Dwarfs were a very closed group, not in terms of their communication with the outside world, but in terms of their seriousness about marriage. They strictly adhered to monogamy and were exceedingly loyal to their spouses. Words like infidelity and adultery didn’t exist in their emotional world; hence, they rarely intermarried with other races, and likewise, other races didn’t wish to intermarry with dwarfs due to physical and racial differences.

However, Komer wasn’t interested in this. What interested him was whether Feuerbach possessed the capabilities he claimed, since Komer was a layman in ore smelting.

"Well, I’ve never been interested in matters of racial bloodlines. In my territory, as long as you abide by the law, that’s enough, even if you are a skeleton or a zombie," Komer declared grandly. "What I’m interested in are the things that are useful to me. Can you tell me what kind of magic metals this ore contains?"

"Of course," the goat head nodded, reached into the metal vessel and pinched some blackish powder, "This ore is primarily composed of iron, so the most abundant byproduct is Mysterious Iron. See how this powder emits an oily black color? This is the appearance of Mysterious Iron after it has been purified by the fires of the netherworld."

Mysterious Iron? Komer felt somewhat disappointed. Although Mysterious Iron could barely be counted as a magic metal, it was one of the lowest and most common types among magic metals. Though more expensive than ordinary metals, its value was incomparable to that of other magic metals. Mysterious Iron was rich in Water Magic Power, and mixing it with ordinary metals could effectively increase the metals’ flexibility and ductility, while also offering some resistance to Fire Force.

Seemingly discerning the disappointment in Komer’s eyes, the goat-head discarded the black powder and searched again in the metal vessel, revealing some slightly blue granules on the tip of a finger, piquing Komer’s curiosity.

"This is Indigo Gold, blue with a hint of green, very rare on the Blue Continent. I dare say many people on the Continent might not even have heard of this," the goat head boasted proudly.

"I haven’t heard of it either," Komer nodded, then waved his hand to stop the goat head who was eager to continue, "Mr. Feuerbach, please wait a moment. I would like to invite two more friends to join your presentation."

The arrival of Rebry, Mihailovich, and Newman slightly warmed the atmosphere in the cabin. Indigo Gold was unknown even to Rebry and Mihailovich, but Newman’s face showed excitement, "Lord Komer, I’ve heard of this magic metal. It has a very strong essence of Wood Magic Power. Due to its excellent malleability and some self-healing properties, it has always been called Active Metal. If it could be incorporated into easily worn parts of special machinery, such as vulnerable components of Advanced Magic Crossbows and many Magic Scrolls, it could allow the worn parts to self-repair."

At last someone knew about this matter. Komer was more assured in his heart, certain that this guy wasn’t spouting nonsense in front of them all and had indeed brought out something truly valuable.

"This gentleman seems to have some insight. Indigo Gold is indeed valuable and useful, but compared to that, it’s trivial," said the goat head, as he carefully fiddled in the metal vessel for a while before squeezing out a bit of powder onto his palm, "Do you know what this is? I guess you don’t."

Komer felt somewhat irritated, realizing that this fellow was starting to get cocky in front of him.

"This is called Cloud Thunderstone. Actually, it’s not entirely a metal; more accurately, it should be regarded as something between metal and non-metal. It has certain malleability like a metal, yet it does not change shape at will after refinement, like metal does. Its primary effect is that it carries a considerable amount of thunderous power. If you can open the barriers sealed within the Cloud Thunderstone and unleash its power at will, a Magic Wand made from Cloud Thunderstone could match the Thunder God’s Hammer once wielded by the Great Mage Hammurabi, who was known as the King of Thunder. It’s said that the Thor’s Hammer was made entirely from natural Cloud Thunderstone, but now, after hundreds of years, nobody has seen it."

Once he spoke of his trade, the goat-head’s words flowed incessantly.

"And now, to my knowledge, Cloud Thunderstone is most effective when used on arrows. If a Magical Crossbow Hand uses a small amount of Magic Power to catalyze arrows fitted with Cloud Thunderstone, he can freely control the arrows, causing them to explode in a designated area and release a small-scale force of thunderous electricity. It’s said that some magic craftsmen have successfully created such arrows using Cloud Thunderstone, but I haven’t seen them myself."

The goat head’s words were like a key that opened a door to the world of magic metals for everyone present. Magic metals were unfamiliar to Mages, but for magic craftsmen, they were the most precious thing. Feuerbach’s introduction made everyone, including Komer, realize that once magic metals could be mined and purified on a large scale, Caucasus might become the second Magic City. A swarm of magic craftsmen and merchants of Magic equipment would be attracted, and with superior transportation conditions, abundant resources of magic materials, sufficient ore and Coal resources, as well as the dwarfs now drawn by the Niall Lakeside pottery resources, all of these combined could transform Caucasus into a new land of magical prosperity.

"Very well, Mr. Feuerbach, although I wasn’t very impressed with you at first, your presentation has won me over. You’ve passed the test. Now, let’s discuss the specifics of our collaboration," Komer nodded in satisfaction.
