Chapter 869: Volume 27: Sudden Gust - 9: The Door is Already Open
Komer’s gains in the battle at Marco were unprecedented. Rebry’s return not only greatly enriched the strength of his Homer-Caucasus United Mage Corps but most importantly, Rebry’s understanding of the Church of Light and the entire situation in the Northern Continent was unparalleled. To be precise, Rebry’s role was not limited to that of a mage; more crucially, he acted as a strategical advisor capable of engaging in comprehensive discussions with Komer.
Many matters that were indescribable to Puber or Fran could be grasped by Rebry with just a subtle hint, which was most vital to Komer. Even if Rebry couldn’t be considered a confidant, he was certainly a highly reliable partner. On many issues, his insights were even deeper and more thorough than Komer’s own—a fact Komer himself had to admit.
For Solonberg, Shatima, and Vladimir Koff, this fierce battle was also an exceptionally rare opportunity. Especially for Solonberg and Vladimir Koff, the heart-stopping Great War was undoubtedly a life-and-death struggle, where any slight mishap could result in complete annihilation. Driven by the pressure of a life-threatening crisis, all three of them unleashed their deepest potential. Regardless of victory or defeat, the war held significant benefits for them.
Newman’s performance in this war was outstanding. Despite having the support of the Four Magic Scrolls and Star Mercury, such an immense Magic Array indeed played a pivotal role. It broke through an attack formation made up of three Heavenly Knights and managed to render a supreme fighter of almost War God status like the one from Trajan bedridden, achievements so grand that no amount of reward would be excessive.
For the Dark Mages from the Southern Dark Holy Church, this war was a baptism of startling wind and torrential rain.
The South’s disdain for mages and veneration for warriors meant they rarely had the chance to witness high-level magical confrontations and challenges. Yet, in this battle, they suddenly saw the vast spectacle of the Star Magic Array opposing the Light Array, experienced the wrestle of Psychic Mages, admired the exquisite marvel of the Puppet Mage’s creations, felt the unpredictability of Elemental Magic, and realized that the warriors from the Northern Light Lineage were no less formidable than those southern frogs in a well who prided themselves as kings. They found it hard to identify even two individuals in the South who could match the power of that knight from Trajan. Perhaps the honorable Sword Saint could, but how many Sword Saints could be found in the South?
The Dark Mages from the South, including Giovanni and Konti, were shaken by this battle. The colorful array of magics broadened their somewhat limited perspectives immensely. The world of magic was so fascinating, the realm of warriors equally unfathomable, and the dual cultivation of both seemed to bear fruit as well. Many issues they never considered before now emerged in their minds. For them, the war was like a key suddenly unlocked a door to the outside world, and the influx of new experiences was overwhelming. They truly needed some time to adapt.
Over a year of imprisonment seemed to have little effect on Rebry. Apart from a slightly paler complexion, there were few changes, and if anything, he appeared to be even more hale and hearty, which surprised and intrigued Komer.
Mihailovich was also very satisfied with the condition of his old friend. As an Archmage, Rebry had endured more than a year of captivity, and judging from the aura emanating from his entire being, his Mana seemed to have become more refined. More importantly, to have the chance to temper one’s faith in the heartland of the Church of Light was an opportunity for those who had already built a solid foundation in their hearts. Such imprisonment could not subdue them; rather, it was an excellent chance to surpass oneself. And now it seemed Rebry had indeed made good use of this opportunity.
Komer observed Rebry’s physical and mental changes closely. Compared to the Rebry of over a year ago, the current Rebry seemed even more inscrutable. His own Spiritual Sense could still only detect chaos, the fluctuating inner emotions suggesting that Rebry’s mental state had reached an unprecedented level.
The faint scent of coffee was ordinarily an extraneous matter for a mage, but at this moment, it lingered among the trio, carrying a sense of gratification and pleasure. Komer toyed with the coffee cup in his hand as if he thoroughly enjoyed this rare sense of relaxation.
Everything had gone his way. Rebry had been rescued, and the Church of Light had suffered an unprecedented heavy blow—it could be said this strike pierced the Church of Light to the core. In the short term, the Church of Light would need to expend more energy to settle its internal issues, and the Salvation Society took advantage of this to flourish, even showing signs of switching from hibernation to activity. Although they did not dare to emerge in full view yet, discontent was brewing within the Church of Light itself, and such emotions were the breeding ground for the expansion of the Salvation Society’s influence.
